Long-term rubber oil tamponade in eye along with complicated retinal detachment.
7 mm) on D9 than during NBS (22.0 ± 7.1 mm; p = 0.0177). During the BS, the ovulatory follicle is smaller (p = 0.0042) than during NBS, measured at 33.5 ± 4.6 mm and 41.3 ± 2.8 mm, respectively. Ovulation time after P4 removal was similar during BS (173.1 ± 68.8 h) and NBS (192 ± 58.2 h; p = 0.3507). There was no difference towards an ovulation rate during BS (88%) and NBS (60%; p = 0.0978). There was no difference in spontaneous ovulation during BS (43%) and NBS (0%; p = 0.6085). This hormonal protocol would be an effective tool for inducing cyclicity/ovulation in mares during BS and NBS.Natural pastures are the primary sources of feed for ruminant in southwest Nigeria, but they are of poor quality. Oversowing of legumes could augment the nutrients supplied by the poor forages but this is rarely explored. Here, we oversowed two legumes (Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Cook and Stylosanthes hamata cv. Verano) into natural pasture using different tillage methods (zero-tillage and minimal tillage) and sowing methods (broadcast or drill), and examined their macro and trace minerals. We found that the two legumes produced similar (p > 0.05) calcium, phosphorus, and potassium in all treatments, while magnesium and sodium contents significantly differ (p less then 0.05). The two legumes were generally rich in macrominerals far beyond the requirements of ruminants and low in trace mineral concentrations irrespective of the treatments imposed. Thus, we recommend oversowing of these two legumes into natural pasture for an adequate supply of major minerals and enhanced livestock productivity in the region of study and beyond. Other sources of trace minerals should be assessed if the natural pasture could not supply them. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of breed and age on scrotal measurements and semen characteristics of Saanen and Toggenburg bucks raised under extensive system in the tropic. The study was conducted using Toggenburg and Saanen bucks; the bucks were allocated into two different groups based on breed and age in 2 × 2 factorial completely randomized design. The body weight was determined using a hanging weighing scale expressed in kilogrammes (kg). Scrotal circumference and scrotal length were measured using metal measuring tape. Semen characteristics evaluated were volume, consistency, mass activity and progressive motility, live sperm cells, normal morphology and spermatozoa concentration. The current study found that breed of bucks had no influence on body weight, scrotal circumference, scrotal length, volume, mass activity, progressive motility, live sperm cells and sperm morphology. The study also found that Toggenburg bucks had higher semen consistency and spermatozoa concentration as compared with Saanen bucks. Therefore, it can be concluded that Toggenburg bucks can produce high number of total spermatozoa and as a result higher semen doses for artificial insemination purposes. Further studies with more number of animals are recommended.Buffalo is an amazing ruminant with high tolerance to low-quality roughage. Due to the special breeding environment, there are few reports on the digestibility of roughage in buffalo because it is difficult to quantify ingestion and egestion. To find more applicable method to determine the digestibility of low-quality roughage in buffalo, this study was conducted to compare total feces collection (TFC) method with the following three indirect techniques Cr2O3 (chromic oxide), AIA (acid-insoluble ash), and ADL (acid detergent lignin), to determine rice straw digestibility in buffalo. Six non-pregnant, non-lactating female buffaloes were used in this experiment and the nutritional compositions of the rice straw and feces were measured. Using Cr2O3 and AIA methods, the digestibility of dry matter (DM), ash, organic matter (OM), nitrogen free extract (NFE), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), cellulose (CEL), hemicellulose (HC), and ADL did not have statistically significant differences compared with TFC (P > 0.05). However, the digestibility of DM, ash, OM, NFE, EE, CF, NDF, ADF, and ADL determined using ADL method were significantly lower than those using the TFC (P less then 0.05). The feces recovery of Cr2O3 and AIA was 95.89% and 97.14%, which were higher than that of ADL (88.90%). In summary, compare with ADL method, TFC, Cr2O3, and AIA methods are more accurate to determine the roughage digestibility of buffalo. Furthermore, Cr2O3 and AIA methods are applicable and convenient to evaluate the roughage digestibility of buffalo under extensive feeding system.Q-fever is a worldwide spread zoonotic disease associated with severe illness in humans and abortions and stillbirths in ruminants. Ruminants are major sources of human infection where subclinical carriers shed the bacteria in various secretions and excreta. The goal of the current study was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of Coxiella burnetii infection among cattle, sheep, and goats in the eastern province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). A total of 1310 serum samples were collected through a designed cross-sectional study from private farms and slaughterhouses in the study area and examined against antibodies of C. PCO371 datasheet burnetii using ELISA. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was built to detect risk factors of C. burnetii infection among examined species. The prevalence of C. burnetii infection among examined animals was 9.2% (CI, 7.7-10.8)-15.6%, 9.1%, and 5.8% among goats, cattle, and sheep, respectively). The risk of getting C. burnetii infection among old animals (> 1 year old) was 23 times higher than the risk among young animals ( less then 1 year old) (95% CI, 10.04-53.01; P less then 0.01). Goats were 2.27 (95% CI, 1.41-3.66; P less then 0.01) and 3 times at higher risk than cattle and sheep, respectively, of getting C. burnetii infection. In conclusion, C. burnetii infection is widespread among different ruminant species of the eastern province of KSA which represents a high risk for environmental contamination and disseminating the infection to humans and animal species in that area. Also, our findings may reflect the disease status in other countries of the Arabian Gulf area.
