The correlation between different practice environments and disease prevalence rates revealed that various types of nurses can be ranked in the following order based on the prevalence of the aforementioned diseases homecare nurses > local community hospital nurses > regional hospital nurses > medical center nurses. Objective The purpose of this study was to assess understanding of the hysterectomy procedure and uterine fibroids among women in a general gynecology clinic. Materials and Methods This was an anonymous cross-sectional survey. We adapted and pilot tested a survey instrument designed to assess understanding of the hysterectomy procedure and of uterine fibroids. The final version of the survey consisted of basic demographic questions, followed by 28 knowledge questions (Canadian Task Force Classification II-2). The survey was disseminated to women in the waiting room of one of our gynecology clinics. The patient population included women 18 years and older. Results The mean age of respondents was 33.5 years old. In total, 69.5% of the respondents had at least some college education. In the group of questions related to different types of hysterectomies, the most poorly answered question was "Which type of hysterectomy has the highest risk of damage to the bladder?" Less than 40% of the respondents were able to identify a laparoscopic and robotic hysterectomy based on a written description. Of questions about uterine fibroids, the most poorly answered question was whether cancer that looks like fibroids is common, with >90% of the respondents incorrectly thinking that cancer that resembled fibroids is common. More than half of respondents did not know what a fibroid is. Conclusions In this analysis of the understanding of the hysterectomy procedure and fibroids among an educated population, overall understanding was poor. Specific areas where knowledge was particularly poor were the different ways of doing a hysterectomy and uterine fibroids. Background Women are negatively impacted by psychological stress and despite the prolific use of dietary supplements to manage stress there is little evidence to support their use for such. This study examined the relationship between intake of specific nutrients through diet and/or dietary supplementation and level of perceived stress. Cevidoplenib nmr Method In this cross-sectional study of adult Australian women (n = 74), perceived stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale, dietary intake was assessed using a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire, and supplement usage was recorded using a Supplement Use Questionnaire. Results Potentially substantive reductions in stress scores were associated with polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation α-linolenic acid (mean difference [MD] = -3.34, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -7.97 to 1.29), linoleic acid (MD = -4.08, 95% CI = -8.97 to 0.82), γ-linolenic acid (MD = -2.23, 95% CI = -7.20 to 2.74), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (MD = -4.05, 95% CI = -8.07 to -0.03). There were negative correlations between intake of vitamin B6 and vitamin C and stress (ρ = -0.50 and -0.35, respectively). Compared with nonsupplementers, stress scores were on average 0.92 units lower among those supplementing with magnesium and vitamin B6 concurrently (95% CI = -3.88 to 2.03). An increase in vitamin B6 through food was related to lower stress scores. For most nutrients, intake from food was positively associated with supplementation status. Conclusion There is some evidence to suggest potentially meaningful associations between intake of particular nutrients and stress, although CIs were wide and there were no statistically significant relationships observed. Further research is warranted to investigate any potential benefits more precisely using randomized controlled trials or large-scale observational studies. Objective To examine how measures of infertility based on medical criteria and based on self-perception relate to depressive symptoms among women with infertility. Background Survey-based studies of depressive symptoms have used either measures of self-reported infertility based on meeting medical criteria or measures of self-perceived fertility problems, but seldom both. It is, therefore, not known which type of measure is more closely associated with depressive symptoms. Materials and Methods Using ordinary least-squares multiple regression, this study compares associations between a measure of meeting medical criteria for infertility and a measure of self-perceived fertility problems with a common measure of depressive symptoms. Data come from the National Survey of Fertility Barriers, a population-based survey of 4,711 U.S. women. Results Both meeting medical criteria for infertility and self-perception were associated with depressive symptoms after controlling for a number of relevant variables, but the coefficient for the self-perception measure was slightly higher than the coefficient for medical criteria. Conclusion If possible, both medical criteria and self-perception measures should be used in studies of the consequences of infertility for psychosocial outcomes. If only one measure can be used, self-perception of a fertility problem is an acceptable measure. Background Pain with intrauterine device (IUD) insertion is identified as a barrier to uptake of this highly effective long-acting reversible contraceptive. Several studies have assessed the efficacy of interventions to alleviate patient discomfort associated with IUD insertion, but no interventions have been clearly shown to improve procedural pain. The aim of this study was to determine whether use of a cold compress on the abdomen during IUD insertion reduces pain. Materials and Methods This was a prospective randomized control trial of women presenting to Virginia Commonwealth University for insertion of IUD from September 2016 to October 2017. A power analysis determined that 69 subjects were needed in each arm to detect a 30% reduction in pain with a power of 80%, significance value of p  less then  0.05. One hundred forty-two participants were consented for the study, 69 were randomized to the control group, which received the usual management, and 73 were randomized to the study group, which received a cold compress to the abdomen before the procedure.
