A renewed focus on contact dynamics between hosts and vectors will contribute new insights into the mechanisms behind VBD spread and emergence that are sorely lacking. For instance, upon issuing payment transactions, users of an application would like to be notified quickly on the transactions approval. The application can be a financial institution (such as a bank), sharing the blockchain with other such applications and is represented by a node. A node might attempt to prioritize its own transactions by including them early in blocks added to the blockchain. A fair block proposal of a node follows a random selection of the transactions among the set of pending transactions the node is aware of. On the contrary, a dishonest node includes more of its transactions at the expense of transactions of other applications. In this work, we propose a toolbox of techniques to enforce such a fair block selection. First, we design an accurate statistical test for the honesty of a proposal and explain it. We conduct experiments demonstrating the accuracy of the new validation scheme. We also describe a technique that enforces fair block selection through concise commitments on the set of pending transactions known to a node. We clarify the advantages of the new mechanisms over state-of-the-art methods.
Food insecurity (FI) is a serious public health issue affecting 2 billion people worldwide. FI is associated with increased risk for multiple chronic diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mental health. We selected these four chronic diseases given their global prevalence and comorbid associations with each other. We evaluated the most recent literature published over the past 5 years and offer strategies for the screening of FI.

Recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses report an association between FI and obesity in adult women as well as adult men and women living in low- and middle-income countries. Gender differences also were observed between FI and type 2 diabetes, such that adult women showed an increased risk for type 2 diabetes. This association was influenced by social determinants of health. Her condition improved with epinephrine and steroids and she was successfully extubated and discharged from the hospital in one week.Implication Statement We require our medical students to create art as part of a core course. Projects have historically been displayed at our health sciences library. During a rapid adjustment to virtual teaching at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, using Instagram to hold a virtual art show was a quickly implemented alternative. With student consent, course directors posted different artwork every weekday for eight weeks to a course account. By capitalizing on the visual strengths and extensive reach of the Instagram platform, we promoted our medical students' talents both locally and nationally. A website metrics assessment was performed to assess student uptake. Implementation of the Ottawa Handbook of EM across Canadian clerkship curriculums is anticipated to bridge the EM knowledge gap for junior learners.
