Bedside Cot 6 Months Plus
Bedside sleepers let you keep your baby in the same room as you, without the risks of bed-sharing. They're also a great option for babies.
Find models with an adjustable height which will fit perfectly on the majority of bed frames. Also, look for fabrics with breathable fabric that are easy to clean.
Safety
A bedside cot can be described as a bassinet that is attached to the bed's side to ensure safe cosleeping. It can be used to bring your baby to you to comfort them, feed them or to help soothe them at night. It's also an excellent option if you had a c-section. It is different from a Moses Basket or Cot in that it has walls that are high so your baby isn't able to be pushed out. Some models have tilting features that help babies with colic and reflux. They are also slightly larger than Moses baskets, which makes them easier to move from room to room.
The NHS and The Lullaby Trust, a safe sleep charity, recommend that newborns be kept in a bassinet or cot in same room with their parents. They should not be sleeping in your bed. Bed-sharing increases the risks of overheating or suffocation. Bedside cribs give you the best of both worlds by giving your baby the opportunity to be close to you throughout the night, but still in their own secure and private sleeping space.
When selecting a crib that is bedside make sure it is in compliance with the latest safety standards (it should be BS EN 1130:2019) and doesn't have any gaps or parts that could cause your child to be trapped. Also make sure you choose mattresses that are firm and flat. A sagging mattress or one that is too soft could increase the risk of SIDS for your baby.
Find bedding that is well-fitted and free of loose blankets or pillowcases. Pillows pose a risk of suffocation and duvets can be a hazard to the baby's face. It is a good idea to use a fitted sheet instead however, make sure it fits properly.
Our MFM mom testers have discovered that the SnuzPod4 is a great option for a crib that is positioned near the bed, selected for 2021's Mother&Baby Awards in the Best Cot, Crib, or Moses Basket category. It is attached securely to the bed and it can be adjusted to ensure the perfect fit. It features a rocking feature and can be adjusted to an inclined angle for reflux. It's a good choice for those with narrow or small beds since it does not take up much space.
Design
The design of a bedside crib is important because it is the place where your child will spend the majority of their time. Many cribs are available in a range of colors that match your decor. Some come with features like mesh windows to keep your baby visible or drop-down sides that allow easier access. Some cribs even have incline functions to ease reflux.
You can adjust the height of the majority of cribs to match your bed's height which makes it easier to get into and out of bed. You can also find a few that are designed to function as travel cribs, which are ideal if you're travelling or visiting relatives.
Leya is an MFM mother and home tester, found that the SnuzPod 4 was a great fit for her bedroom decor. bedside cots uk loved its compact fold, which helped save space. She also liked that one side of the crib drops down and allows her to pick up her sleeping baby without leaving her bed. This is particularly beneficial if you've had a Caesarean or are recovering after one. You can stay close to your baby for a longer time.
Jasmine is another mum who liked using the SnuzPod 4. She commented that it was easy to move the crib from one room to another which she could not find with other bedside cribs. However, she said that it took some effort to lift and lower the crib, since the handle was stiff.
Another bedside crib that's simple to fold and move is the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air, which was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards as the The Best Cot Crib, Moses Basket. Its slim frame and neutral colors will fit in with all bedrooms, though some of our home testers felt the bars were a little too close together, meaning they could get caught on clothing or baby toys. The distance between the bars should not exceed 6.5cm (2.5 inches) to ensure that your baby's head doesn't get caught in. This crib is also ideal for babies who have reflux, due to the ComfortAir breathable system helps regulate their body temperature.
Comfort
Staying close to your baby all night will give you peace of mind, but you should be capable of reaching them quickly to feed them in the middle of the night. You can easily do this without having get out of bed with a crib at your bedside. They make it simple to help babies sleep. If you'd like to be able to sleep with your child, but do not want the hassle of getting up each time they're fed, a moses-basket is an ideal alternative.
Most cribs with a bedside are connected to the bedside so you can easily see and reach your baby. They usually have a mesh window to allow you to check on your baby without disturbing them. They might also have a reflux setting to help with colic or reflux.
This crib has a lot of features, but we're most impressed by the ComfortAir mattress that is breathable and regulates your baby's body temperature and increases airflow. It's a bit smaller than other cribs for bedside use, which may be helpful when space is tight. Our mom testers agree that this is still an excellent option for sleepless, long nights.
The cot securely attaches to the bed's side by means of adjustable straps. This minimizes the chance of gaps in which your child might get trapped. It is equipped with a flat, firm mattress that is safe and promotes good sleep habits.
One thing to bear in mind is that your baby may begin to climb out of the crib when they're able to sit up typically around six months. It's important that you place your child in a cot or a different sleeping arrangement, once they outgrow their crib.
rocking bedside crib to think about is how light the crib is, and if it's suitable for traveling. Some of our mothers are thrilled that this crib is able to be disassembled for transport however, others aren't able to put it together. It can be a challenge to clean, so you'll have to clean it often using the aid of a cleaner and a cloth.
Stores
A bedside cot suitable for 6 months and older is a bassinet shaped crib that is attached to the mattress's side to allow safe co-sleeping. They are ideal for calming babies to sleep, for night feedings and allowing mums who had a csection to keep their baby close.
When you are choosing a crib for your bed, it's important to ensure that it meets current safety standards. Check that the bars on the crib are spaced sufficiently apart to prevent your child's head from being trapped. Also, make sure that any drop-down side is secure and doesn't open unintentionally. Do not place stickers or transfer on the floor of the cot since they could pose the risk of choking.
Emily's favorite bedside cot for her baby is the Next2me Magic. It was selected for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the categories of Best Cot or Crib, and Best Moses Basket. It's a good size and has lots of storage space to store everything your baby needs. It's also compact and light enough to fit in a travel bag if you need to move it from room to room. If you're looking for something simpler her recommendation is Shnuggle Air in addition to Crib.
