A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib for bed will allow you to keep your baby close during the night without needing to get up. The fabric's breathable design allows you to easily see your baby and they're easy to lower for those bleary-eyed 3am feeds.
Some also double up as a moses basket, too.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small baby crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a type of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you build a bond with your newborn.
The cots usually come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your newborn during the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially useful for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable so you can use them to travel or as a temporary solution for newborns that aren't yet ready to move into a full-sized crib.
Find a crib that has a breathable mattress, and an appropriate cover to protect your baby from stains. You may also want to purchase baby-safe items such as the blanket or teether.
If you're looking for a more long-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot at the time that is appropriate. This is a great option for extending their life and making the transition more seamless. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be turned into an infant bed. Others can be used in conjunction with an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise one. This is a great option for families who intend to travel frequently or change between bedrooms in the evening. You should also consider how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can fit the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to help parents bond with their infants while they sleep together, without sharing a bed this co-sleeper has features that make parent-baby bonding enjoyable, safe and easy.
A smooth rocking motion can be initiated by pressing a button. bedside cot bed can to soothe your baby without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is ideal for toddlers and older infants who are struggling to settle and can aid in digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked in place once the rocking is done to stop it moving. It can also be secured on the side of your bed using a strap and clip attachment. This makes the crib sturdy and secure and allows you to sleep comfortably without fearing that your baby might roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape has softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows on both ends to allow plenty of airflow while protecting your baby.
The mattress included is firm and comfortable and has a removable cover. The crib is easy to put together and take down thanks to an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it very mobile. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib does not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. It is easy to clean with cloths that wipe clean and is easy to carry in a bag for travel, making it ideal for long-term stays away from home.
The TuttiBambini Air
This model is made to be a safe baby-sitter from birth until 6 months. It comes with bars that rock to allow for easy mobility, as well as castors. Its airflow mattress is luxurious and provides an ideal sleeping surface and the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings including an incline setting that can aid in reducing reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than some bedside cribs which can create a mess to clean. It also has a top bar that can be easily adjusted to allow for feeding at night without having to fiddle with zips.
Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She loved that it didn't sway like other models, meaning it didn't wake her up at night while she was trying to soothe her baby for feedings. She also enjoyed that the side lowered down so she didn't need to reach over her partner to lift the baby for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal or oak and is a stylish accessory to any bedroom. It's more stylish than other cribs we've tried, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also quite light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry-on case so you can bring it with you on vacation or even when you move house. You'll need a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and pictures are simple to follow once you open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down, and moved through three different slide positions, to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so that the baby is always at hand. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and allows you to glance at your baby. And you can stow additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside cribs, the Iora folds flat and comes with a bag for travel so that it can be taken wherever. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room and believed that it was a good size for a bedside cot, and not too big or too small. They also loved the large storage basket, that is ideal for storing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep but do not wish to share their beds or whose partner may have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers love the ease with which they can access their child in the Iora, and that it has an adjustable reflux incline that can aid in reducing gas.
Our mums are also thrilled that it complies with NICE guidelines, which are to place the infant in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys, pillows, etc). They also say that the mattress is comfortable and firm for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as the other cribs for bedside use however, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around, consider one of the other options on our list.
