Most studies have been conducted on the behavior of insects in relation to rapid and slight changes in pressure magnitudes or short-term pressure trends, but there is little information on the effect of long-term and large pressure variations on insect traits. Here, we assessed the effects of static low barometric pressure on the tethered flight, lifespan and reproductive performance of Mythimna separata (Walker), a long-distance migratory insect, using an apparatus simulating low barometric pressure at altitudes of 500 m above sea level. We found that both the flight distance and flight duration of M. selleck kinase inhibitor separata moths were significantly longer under low barometric pressure conditions. Exposure to low barometric pressure conditions for 24 and 48 h significantly shortened the lifespan of female moths but had no influence on male moths. The ovaries of female moths developed earlier, and the preoviposition and oviposition periods were significantly shortened under low atmospheric pressure. Moreover, low atmospheric pressure reduced the respiration rate of female moths. However, there was an increase in the respiration rate of female moths after being returned to standard barometric pressure conditions. Our results show that the behavior and physiological traits of insects are affected by the low-pressure environment during migration. The low barometric pressure conditions at high altitudes is one of important factors accelerating reproductive behavior of M. separata after migration.
Literature assessing the effect of marital status on mortality has underrepresented, or altogether omitted Hispanics and the potential moderating effect of Hispanic ethnicity on these relationships. Given cultural and network dynamics, marital advantages in older Hispanic women may be greater than other groups given their family-focused, collectivist orientation.

The purpose of this study was to understand whether older Hispanic women exhibited a more pronounced marital advantage as compared with non-Hispanic Whites.

We used longitudinal data from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Observational Study and Clinical Trials (N = 161,808) collected initially from 1993 to 1998 and followed until 2018. Our sample excluded those respondents indicating "other" as their race-ethnicity and those missing marital status and race-ethnicity variables (N = 158,814). We used Cox-proportional hazards models to assess the association between race-ethnicity, marital status, and the interactive effect of race-ethnicity and marital status on survival.

After controlling for socioeconomic status (SES) and health controls, we found a Hispanic survival advantage when compared with non-Hispanic Whites and all other racial-ethnic groups with the exception of Asian/Pacific Islander women (all significant HRs < 0.78, all ps ≤ 0.001). Hispanics had a higher rate of divorce when compared with non-Hispanic Whites. The interactive effect of race-ethnicity and marital status was not significant.

U.S. Hispanic, postmenopausal women exhibit a mortality advantage over and above marital status despite their high rates of divorce. Implications and potential explanations are discussed.

We aimed to examine the multimorbidity patterns within a representative sample of UK older adults and their association with concurrent and subsequent memory.

Our sample consisted of 11 449 respondents (mean age at baseline was 65.02) from the English Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA). We used 14 health conditions and immediate and delayed recall scores (IMRC and DLRC) over 7 waves (14 years of follow-up). Latent class analyses were performed to identify the multimorbidity patterns and linear mixed models were estimated to explore their association with their memory trajectories. Models were adjusted by sociodemographics, body mass index (BMI), and health behaviors.

Results showed 8 classes Class 1 Heart Disease/Stroke (26%), Class 2 Asthma/Lung Disease (16%), Class 3 Arthritis/Hypertension (13%), Class 4 Depression/Arthritis (12%), Class 5 Hypertension/Cataracts/Diabetes (10%), Class 6 Psychiatric Problems/Depression (10%), Class 7 Cancer (7%), and Class 8 Arthritis/Cataracts (6%). Several atomic-resolution structures have been solved providing detailed information on the Cu-coordination sphere and the interaction with the polysaccharide substrate.
