url That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib that is placed near your bed allows you to keep your baby close to you at night without the need to get up. The fabric's breathable design allows you to easily see your baby and they're easy to lower for those tired 3am feedings.
Some double as a moses' basket.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred as a bassinet or co-sleeper is a crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep next to you in safety. This is a secure form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase the risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with the new baby.
These cots often have a side that is able to be raised, so you can easily reach your baby throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mums recovering from an op. Many are portable or foldable so you can use them for trips and as an interim solution for babies that aren't yet ready to move into a full-sized crib.
Find a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as a protective cover that will shield your baby from staining. You may also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a longer-term solution Some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or cot when the time is right. This is a great way to extend their life span and making the transition smoother. Some have a removable section at the top that can be transformed into the bassinet. Other models can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise model. This is a great option for families that intend to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms in the evening. It is also important to consider how big your bedroom is to ensure you can fit the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser which can be used to create an incline for babies who have reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Famous for their high-end baby products for babies, the English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. This co-sleeper was designed to enable parents to connect and sleep side-by-side with their children without sharing one bed. It is full of features that help make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple and enjoyable.
A smooth rocking motion can be initiated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm will help to soothe your baby without disrupting their natural sleep patterns. This is great for older babies or toddlers who struggle to settle down. It can also assist with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can be locked into place once the rocking is completed to stop it from moving. It can also be secured on the side of your bed using clips and straps. This makes it stable and secure allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night's rest without worrying about your child sliding off into the middle of the room. The round shape of the cocoon features soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows on both ends. This allows airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress comes with a firm and comfortable and has a removable cover. The aluminium frame is light and lightweight, making the crib extremely lightweight and easy to set up. The four wheels that lock are covered in rubber to ensure the crib doesn't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean due to the fabric that wipes clean and can be easily packed in bags for long-term stays.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
This model is made to be a safe, baby-sitter from birth to 6 months. It comes with bars with rocking to allow for easy mobility, as well as castors. The deluxe airflow mattresses provide an ideal sleeping surface while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings, including an incline option that could help with congestion and reflux.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib has a fabric that can be removed and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than other bedside cribs which can create a mess to clean. Plus, it has an upper bar that can be easily adjusted for nighttime feeds without needing to fiddle with zips in the dark.
Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She liked that it didn't move like other models, which meant she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to soothe her child during feedings. She also enjoyed that the side lowered down so that she didn't have to reach out over her partner to pull the baby out to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It looks more like a designer piece than some of the other cribs we've tested, which can appear rather utilitarian. It is also relatively light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry case so you can bring it with you on vacation or when moving house. It's all you need to buy is a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and pictures are easy to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to help parents feel more connected to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and shifted through three different slide positions, to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding allows air to circulate through, allowing you to see your baby quickly. You can also put away extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket beneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside cribs The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag so that it can be taken anywhere. Our mum testers were able to move it from room to room and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot, and not too big or small. They also liked the large storage basket, which is ideal for stowing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents who want to sleep together, but don't wish to share their bed. If one of the partners suffers from mobility issues such as back pain or arthritis. Our mums who tested it were thrilled to be able to easily access their child while in the Iora and that it had an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our moms appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the baby in a Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets, pillows etc. They also say that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs, though and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around, look at other options on our list.
