Bedside Crib and Travel Cot
Bedside cribs are a cot with a bassinet style that can be attached to the side of your bed. Some have an end that can be raised for easy access, while others come with an incline that is ideal for babies with reflux.
MFM test subject Georgina said that the crib was simple to put together and the directions were very easy to follow. It was a quick construction. It also folds down to an extremely compact size and comes with a handy bag for traveling.
Easy to assemble
Bedside cribs are generally easy to put together, and are usually on the smaller side so they fit neatly alongside your bed. They are also lighter, which makes them more transportable. Georgina who was one of MFM's home testers said that the Maxi-Cosi Lora was "super easy to put together, with clear instructions, and zips that are easy to open." The crib can also be used as a travel cot and comes with a convenient bag for when you're on the move. It comes with multiple mesh windows to allow for airflow and the adjustable height makes it can be adapted to any mattress.
Some cribs for bedside use the option of a side panel that can be adjusted to allow you to be able to easily reach your baby without getting out of bed. This is a great solution for mothers who are breastfeeding or parents who want to be with their baby throughout the night, but do not want to risk co-sleeping (which is associated to an increased risk of SIDS).
The majority of models have a built-in function that allows you to rock your baby. This can be a comforting experience for your baby and help them to fall asleep. Some cribs have a recline position that can be helpful for children suffering from reflux or colic. This position should only be used under supervision. You should consult your doctor or health professional before you attempt it.
Many bedside cribs come with a canopy to shield your baby from sound or light. This can help calm them down. Some have storage compartments beneath, which is ideal to store blankets, nappies and clothing for your baby.
Some cribs for bedside use can be transformed into standalone cots or toddler beds This is an important selling point for families. The Joie Roomie, winner of the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards is a fantastic example. It has removable side panels, a conversion kit, and a tummy-tilt, making it a great travel companion. It also has 5 different height settings to match your bed. It was praised by our MFM home testers for being simple to assemble and comfortable. It is also compact and easy to move around. The Graco Play Yard is also known as a Play and Pack Play is a different popular choice. It was shortlisted for the 2022 Mother&Baby Award.
Cosy and comfortable
A bedside crib allows you to keep an eye on your child in the peace of your bed. It's a great option for a mom who is recovering from a c-section because you can easily pull baby to your side to feed them or make nappy changes without needing to get out of bed. The most cozy cribs have mesh sides that allow you to view your baby's face through.
bedside sleeper cot lower the barrier completely, allowing the option of sleeping together without the risks (check whether the crib you're considering meets the latest safety requirements however). Some cribs allow you to lower the barrier and then pop it up again after you have lifted baby out. This is better for parents concerned about their child rolling off their mattress.
The Luah - which won the 2021 Mother&Baby Award for Best Crib, Cot, or Moses Basket - is designed to clip onto bedsteads and divan beds, but does require a few more straps than other models (check the specifications to be certain your bed is able to accommodate). The spacious design features an opening side panel, and a patented perforated bottom that creates air cushioning that increases air flow. Additionally, it has an integrated reflux setting and a 360 swivel so you can rotate the crib to accommodate the position of your baby.
If you are seeking something smaller Tutti Bambini CoZee comes with oak legs with a variety of fabric options that fit in with your decor. It's also incredibly easy to put together as Georgina who participated in our MFM tests, put it together speedily and didn't need to consult the instructions. It's also a fantastic travel cot. It folds flat and can be easily stuffed into bags.
The Next2me Magic, shortlisted for Best Cot, Crib, or Moses Basket in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, has a larger size, yet it's small and easy to connect to your bed. Georgina found it easy to put together, though she did find that the zips could have been more clearly explained on the instruction manual.
Easy to clean
Find cribs with mattress covers that can be washed with the machine when you are looking at cribs for bed or travel cots. This will keep it clean and free of spills, spills, and leaky diapers. It's important to choose one that is easily removed and partially dismantled so you can get into every nook and cranny to conduct a thorough cleaning and sanitising session.
This is essential, as it will ensure that all dirt and germs have been eliminated. Make sure that the sides of the crib are securely attached to ensure that your baby doesn't slide off or become trapped.
Apart from being bedside cot wooden to clean, you'll need an infant crib that is a comfortable place for your baby and will fit comfortably into your bed. This is especially important if you are using a bedside crib for co-sleeping. These cribs are designed to be connected securely to the parent's side, giving parents to easily access to their infant at night to feed and comfort their baby while still ensuring the security that separate sleeping areas provide.
Another thing to think about when choosing a crib to sleep on is whether it has any additional features you might find useful. For instance, some cribs come with the capability to rock (useful for sleepers who are fussy) or tilt - although keep in mind that you should utilize this feature with care as it could be dangerous if your child falls out.
You'll also want to make sure that your crib or travel cot has a firm and flat mattress that fits snugly in the frame. This will lower the risk of SIDS by making sure that your baby's head and feet do not slide into gaps or folds in the bedding.
It's a good idea purchase a new mattress for the crib or travel cot rather than relying on one that was passed down or bought second-hand. Mattresses that have been used tend to lose their shape with time, increasing the risk of SIDS. All cribs new to market must meet BS EN1130:2019. This is the most current standard, which introduces more stringent requirements to ensure safe and effective sleep solutions.
Versatile
A bedside crib (or co-sleeping crib, as they're often referred to) can be attached to your bed, allowing you to reach your baby easily at night, without needing to leave your own sleeping area. They can also be used as standalone cribs during the day. The majority of cribs feature a side panel which can be lowered, so you can feel and see your baby. Some cribs allow you to keep the side panel down at night. This allows you to be close and comfortable with your baby while minimizing the risks of sharing the bed. Some cribs can be transformed into a travel cot. Other cribs come with additional features such as rocking, tilting, or even converting into an older crib for babies.
The SnuzPod 4 crib is popular for a variety of reasons, not only because of its sleek, modern design. This one has six height adjustments, as well as a handy storage shelf. It's also a bit heavier and bulkier than many of our other cribs that are more portable and comes in an attractive bag that keeps it clean and dust-free when it's stored.
It's easy to set up, with clear instructions and an easy-to-use toolkit to assist you. It is also easy to clean thanks to a machine washable mattress cover and the breathable fabric. It also comes with a few extras in comparison to other cribs, including an anti-reflux angle as well as a rocking feature and an storage compartment.
Jasmin says that this crib is wonderful because it is "easy to reach the baby during the night to provide a relaxed feeding and larger than most Moses Baskets, so it will last for a longer time before my son grows out". She also likes that it's easy to wipe down and feels durable and well-made. It's even designed to fit on a divan bed, making it an ideal choice for those with limited space. It is also equipped with a convenient bag that you can carry with you on your travels. bedside crib travel cot -rounder.
