The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot vacuum can sweep and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It also leaves the floors spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.
Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair that is tangled and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a great cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.
If you own a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. related resource site allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
