The Best Robot Hoover

The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detector) are a plus.

Be sure to check your robot's brushes for tangled hair as well as large debris, and wash them when needed. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.


It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. robot vacuum cleaner 's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. For larger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
