Setting Up the Water Eject Shortcut
Download the Shortcut:
Open your iPhone's web browser and navigate to the Shortcuts Gallery to find the Water Eject shortcut.
Tap the “Add Shortcut” button to install it in your Shortcuts app. This feature is compatible with iPhone models from the iPhone 7 and later, which have water resistance capabilities14.
Enable Untrusted Shortcuts (if necessary):
Since this is an untrusted shortcut, go to Settings > Shortcuts and enable “Allow Untrusted Shortcuts” to use it12.
Using the Water Eject Shortcut
You can activate the Water Eject function in several ways:
Method 1: Using Siri
Say “Hey Siri, water eject.”
Tap on Begin Water Ejection when prompted.
Method 2: Through the Shortcuts App
Open the Shortcuts app.
Tap on the Water Eject shortcut.
Select Begin Water Ejection from the menu.
Method 3: Home Screen Access
To add a shortcut icon to your home screen:
Open the Shortcuts app and tap on the three buttons in the upper right corner of the Water Eject shortcut.
Select Add to Home Screen, then confirm by tapping Add34.
How It Works
When activated, the Water Eject shortcut emits a low-frequency sound (around 165 Hz) for approximately 10 seconds. This sound causes vibrations that help push water out of your iPhone's speaker grills. After completion, it will automatically lower your device's volume to 50% and notify you that the process is complete123.
Additional Tips
If your iPhone has been submerged for an extended period or is showing signs of water damage, consider seeking professional help, as this shortcut may not be sufficient for severe cases24.
Other methods to help expel water include gently tapping your phone against your hand or letting it air dry in a well-ventilated area1. Avoid using rice or other materials inside ports as they can cause further damage.
