Ehrlichia species are obligatory intracellular bacteria transmitted by arthropods, and some of these species cause febrile diseases in humans and livestock. Genome sequencing has only been performed with cultured Ehrlichia species, and the taxonomic status of such ehrlichiae has been estimated by core genome-based phylogenetic analysis. However, many uncultured ehrlichiae exist in nature throughout the world, including Japan. This study aimed to conduct a molecular-based taxonomic and ecological characterization of uncultured Ehrlichia species or genotypes from ticks in Japan. We first surveyed 616 Haemaphysalis ticks by p28-PCR screening and analyzed five additional housekeeping genes (16S rRNA, groEL, gltA, ftsZ, and rpoB) from 11 p28-PCR-positive ticks. Phylogenetic analyses of the respective genes showed similar trees but with some differences. Furthermore, we found that V1 in the V1-V9 regions of Ehrlichia 16S rRNA exhibited the greatest variability. From an ecological viewpoint, the amounts of ehrlichiae in a single tick were found to equal approx. 6.3E+3 to 2.0E+6. Subsequently, core-partial-RGGFR-based phylogenetic analysis based on the concatenated sequences of the five housekeeping loci revealed six Ehrlichia genotypes, which included potentially new Ehrlichia species. Thus, our approach contributes to the taxonomic profiling and ecological quantitative analysis of uncultured or unidentified Ehrlichia species or genotypes worldwide.Aluminum can enhance heat release of energetic composite in theory. However, the commonly used micron aluminum powder has several short comings like incomplete reaction and low reaction rate. Meanwhile, outer oxide shell of nano Al particle is thicker than micro Al, which leads to low active aluminum content and insufficient heat release. On the basis of previous research, reported fluoropolymers modified Al particles were compared and suitable F2311was chosen. Sub-micron scale Al (median particle size around 200 nm) was regarded as optimum coated object in consideration of activity content of aluminum powder changing with particle size. The super fine Al powder was prepared by electrical explosion method, and encapsulated in situ by selected fluorine rubber F2311. The experiments on thermal stability demonstrated F2311 coating thickness should be no less than 3.6 nm. These results were further confirmed by EXPLO5 thermo dynamic calculation. Calculated results showed that reaction characters of F2311 encapsultmosphere' while F2311 decomposed in range of 200-400 °C. Alumina was replaced with aluminum fluoride inside coating layer during 400-550 °C, which broadened the diffusion path and then accelerated the permeation of oxidizing gas. In addition, the exothermic of Al-F was obviously larger than Al-O. Consequently, the oxidation reaction was activated rapidly, especially in initial exothermic period. Fluoropolymer encapsulated sub-micron sized Al was a latent highly activity energetic fuel and a potential candidate for aluminum powder.Cost effective dust mitigation from surfaces is one of the challenges in various sectors. The reduction of dust adhesion on surfaces plays a vital role for dust mitigation from surfaces under the gravitational influence. Creating an avalanche effect on dusty surfaces improves the dust mitigation rate and provides an effective cleaning process. Hence, solution treatment of dust by low concentration hydrofluoric acid is considered towards reducing dust adhesion on glass surfaces. To increase the rate of dust mitigation, the avalanche influence is created by the higher density and larger size particles (5300 kg/m3 and ~ 50 µm) than the average size dust particles (2800 kg/m3 and 1.2 µm) via locating them in the top region of the dusty glass surfaces. Mitigation velocity of the dust particles is evaluated using a high-speed recording system and the tracker program. Findings revealed that solution treatment (curing) of the dust particles results in the formation of fluorine compounds, such as CaF2 and MgF2, on dust surfaces, which suppress dust adhesion on surfaces. OSHA Globally Harmonized System lists the fluorine compounds formed as environmentally non-harmful. Avalanche's influence results in dust mitigation at a smaller tilt angle of the glass surface (~ 52°) than that of the case with none-avalanche influence (63°). However, its clinical application is often limited by severe toxic side effects and drug resistance. Based on the discovered dissociative electron transfer mechanism of cisplatin, a novel combination of cisplatin with [9-(2-carboxyphenyl)-6-diethylamino-3-xanthenylidene]-diethylammonium chloride (basic violet 10, BV10) is proposed to potentiate the chemotherapeutic effect of cisplatin. Here, we show that this combination enhances the anti-cancer effect of cisplatin in both in vitro cell lines and in vivo xenograft mouse models of cisplatin-sensitive and -resistant lung, ovarian and cervical cancers while introducing minimal additional toxic side effects. Furthermore, femtosecond time-resolved laser spectroscopic measurements demonstrate that cisplatin reacts with BV10 via an electron transfer mechanism. These results indicate that the combination of cisplatin with BV10 is promising for improving the chemotherapy of cancers with various extents of cisplatin resistance.To examine the ocular side effects of selected biological anti-cancer therapies and the ocular and systemic prognosis of patients receiving them. We retrospectively reviewed all medical records of patients who received biological anti-cancer treatment from 1/2012 to 12/2017 and who were treated at our ocular oncology service. The following data was retrieved primary malignancy, metastasis, type of biological therapy, ocular side effects, ophthalmic treatment, non-ocular side effects, and ocular and systemic disease prognoses. Twenty-two patients received biological therapies and reported ocular side effects. Eighteen patients (81.8%) had bilateral ocular side effects, including uveitis (40.9%), dry eye (22.7%), and central serous retinopathy (22.7%). One patient (4.5%) had central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), and one patient (4.5%) had branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). At the end of follow-up, 6 patients (27.27%) had resolution of the ocular disease, 13 patients (59.09%) had stable ocular disease, and 3 patients (13.
