Bilateral basal ganglia hemorrhages are extremely rare and have very poor prognosis. We describe the case of a 52-year-old woman with a history of hypertension who experienced bilateral basal ganglia hemorrhages. We performed bilateral hematoma aspiration by minimally invasive surgery via frontal and temporal puncture points. We discuss the surgical procedure and review relevant literature pertaining to the underlying causes and complications of similar cases.
Rhinophyma is a cosmetic disorder that causes emotional distress if the symptoms are extensive or obvious enough. Treatment options range from topical antibiotics or isotretinoin, surgical resection, cryosurgery, electrocautery, dermabrasion and more recently laser therapy. With the limitations of surgical techniques, lasers gained popularity for treating rhinophyma. However, laser ablation is invasive and can lead to side effects and prolonged downtime. Fractional photothermolysis (FP) was introduced to overcome the limitations posed by conventional ablative lasers. To the best of our knowledge, there are no previous studies to evaluate the use of ErYAG in an ablative mode with a fractional handpiece for the treatment of rhinophyma.
The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fractional ablative 2940 nm ErYAG laser for the treatment of mild to moderate rhinophyma.
Sixteen patients having mild to moderate rhinophyma were treated with fractional ablative 2940 nm ErYAG laser. All pat, the use of patterned ablative ErYAG laser with a PS01 handpiece and parameters used in this study comprise an effective tool for treatment of mild to moderate rhinophyma with rapid postoperative recovery compared with conventional surgical procedures and other ablative lasers.Though there is limited research confirming the purported topical benefits of cannabinoids, it is certain that cutaneous biology is modulated by the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). Receptors from the ECS have been identified in the skin and systemic abuse of synthetic cannabinoids, and their analogs, have also been associated with the manifestation of dermatological disorders, indicating the effects of the ECS on cutaneous biology. In particular, cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound from the cannabis plant, has garnered significant attention in recent years for its anecdotal therapeutic potential for various pathologies, including skin and cosmetic disorders. Though a body of preclinical evidence suggests topical application of CBD may be efficacious for some skin disorders, such as eczema, psoriasis, pruritis, and inflammatory conditions, confirmed clinical efficacy and elucidation of underlying molecular mechanisms have yet to be fully identified. This article provides an update on the advances in CBD research to date and the potential areas of future exploration.
Diabetes mellitus complications are responsible for increased disability, morbidity, and mortality. This study aimed to assess prevalence, patterns, and predictors of chronic complications of diabetes among people with diabetes.
The study was conducted using a prospective observational study design which was done on people with diabetes attending the ambulatory clinic of Mettu Karl Referral Hospital. The data were collected using a consecutive type of sampling technique from April 15 to August 9, 2019. The data were entered into Epidata manager version 4.4.2. Logistic regression analysis was done to identify predictors of chronic complications of diabetes.
A total of 330 participants were included in this study. selleckchem The mean age of participants was 49.9±14.2, and 156 (47.3%) were 41 to 60 years old. About 127 (38.5%) had one or more chronic complications. The predictors of chronic diabetes complications were resident in urban areas [AOR 1.94; 95% CI (1.17, 3.20); p = 0.010], duration of diabetes 10 years [AOR 2.05, 95% CI (1.21, 3.47); p = 0.007], hypertension [AOR 4.19; 95% CI (2.54, 6.91); p < 0.001] and poor glycemic control [AOR 2.82; 95% CI (1.53, 5.21); p = 0.001].
Almost two-fifth of the study participants had chronic complications of diabetes. Residents in urban areas, longer duration of diabetes, hypertension and poor glycemic control were predictors of chronic diabetes complications. It is important to achieve good glycemic control and manage comorbid diseases like hypertension to minimize the risk of chronic diabetes complications.

This study aimed to examine the prevalence and correlates of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in multi-ethnic populations of Northwest China based on Large-scale provincial health checking data.
A total of 9,745,640 Chinese aged ≥18 years in Xinjiang, the largest autonomous region of multi-ethnic in China, were enrolled from Feb. to Sep. 2019. MetS was defined by modified Adult Treatment Panel (ATP III) criteria.
The overall prevalence of MetS was 20.85% [Sex 20.06% female, 21.56% male; Age 39.22% 60-years and above, 26.32% 40- to 59-years and 9.56% 18- to 39-years; Ethnicity 28.19% Hui followed by Han (26.39%), Uyghur (18.56%), Other (18.61%), Kazak (17.98%), Mongolian (17.87%), Kyrgyz (14.44%)]. People living in cities and towns (23.03%) or North (24.78%) had higher prevalence of MetS than rural (19.94%) and South (17.66%). Although the prevalence of hypertension, smoking, drinking and lack of physical activity were higher in Kyrgyz, Mongolian and Kazak than those of other ethnic groups, the risk of MetS was lower.
The results indicated that a high prevalence of MetS in Hui and Han groups and people living in cities and towns. Living in North Xinjiang and elder population tend to have higher prevalence of MetS. The prevention and management of MetS in these populations should be prioritized.
