The burden of this disease is highest in developing countries of East Asia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Central and Southern America. Africa, despite having a similar high profile of Helicobacter pylori infection with East Asia, has a reported low prevalence of gastric cancer. There is a paucity of data on the natural history and endoscopic presentation of gastric cancer in West Africa. Aim To study the topography and morphology of gastric cancer from two institutions in Southern Nigeria. Methods A cross-sectional retrospective study of 622 consecutive cases of upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy performed in two referral endoscopy facilities in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria from February 2012 to January 2021. Variables collated from centre records included age, sex, ethnicity, symptoms, site, endoscopic classification, and histology of gastric cancers. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 20 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Results There were 17 (2.7%) cases of histologically confirmed gastric cancer. The age range of patients was from 34 years to 99 years (mean 60.7 ± 14.6 years). There were nine males and eight females (MF ratio of 1.11). Antrum and cardia were predominantly affected in 10 (60.0%) and seven (6.7%) cases, respectively. Borrmann type 1 advanced gastric tumor was seen in seven (53.8%) and adenocarcinoma, the predominant histology, in 14 (82.4%) cases. Helicobacter pylori was detected in a sole case of gastric cancer. Conclusion Gastric cancer is uncommon in our environment and with a delayed presentation. A predominance of gastric antrum topography and exophytic growth morphology is the pattern.Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is a benign tumor classified under fibro-osseous lesions characterized by the proliferation of fibrous tissue associated with the presence of osteoid or cementicle-like masses. COF of bony origin is highly neoplastic in nature compared to their soft tissue counterparts which are relatively rare. The authors here present a case report of COF arising from the left upper lip in a 10-year-old female patient. The lesion was initially asymptomatic, slow-growing in nature, and later turned painful over a period of eight months. A medical CT was taken to elicit a calcified mass seen at the left subcutaneous plane of the upper lip. The lesion was surgically treated by complete excision under local anaesthesia and sutured. Follow-up was done for a period of one year to assess for recurrence which was not evident in this case. This case report, being a peculiar case of COF arising from the soft tissue of the upper lip, describes the clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging, histopathological evidence, and brief surgical management of the lesion.Background Elbow contracture is a debilitating condition with an incidence ranging from as low as almost 1% to as high as 20% and results in significant limiting consequences on a patient's activities of daily living (ADLs). The following case report is of a 29-year-old man who presented with a three-month history of progressive lower and upper limb weakness associated with facial and arm tremor, as well as urinary hesitancy. Brain and spine magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple demyelinating plaques. Nerve conduction studies revealed evidence of demyelination with severe prolongation of distal motor latencies and reduced conduction velocities. The patient received plasmapheresis and high-dose corticosteroids, which lead to clinical improvement. A rituximab infusion protocol was subsequently started, and the patient received two cycles. There was a significant functional improvement upon the use of rituximab. This study reports a rare neurological disease entity and highlights the necessity for conducting larger studies to optimally demonstrate the efficacy of rituximab in CCPD.Aim The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practice toward prostate cancer and its screening methods among patients attending primary care facilities in King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted on a random sample of 385 men. The questionnaire was distributed using a non-random sampling method (convenience sampling) that included 13 questions that assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of adult male patients toward prostate cancer and its screening methods. K-Ras(G12C) inhibitor 12 mw The questions were divided into three general questions that test the knowledge, four questions that analyze patients' opinions (attitude), and six questions on how patients are practicing screening methods with questions three and six being dependent on the answers to the questions that come before them. Results Around 64% of the participants had adequate knowledge about prostate cancer. Respondents with higher socioeconomic status demonstrated a higher level of knowledge about prostate cancer than the other groups. Regarding the attitude, more than 70% of the respondents believed that it is very important to screen for prostate cancer. About 23% of the participants had done some form of prostate screening test either prostate-specific antigen (PSA) or digital rectal exam (DRE); most of them were men older than 50 years. Conclusions The majority of the respondents to our survey demonstrated high general knowledge about prostate cancer. However, practice toward prostate screening methods was significantly low regardless of the positive attitude on the importance of screening. More data should be obtained to investigate the potential multifactorial reasons for such a low practice.
