Discomfort increases the healing efficiency of cisplatin throughout oesophageal squamous cellular carcinoma by self-consciousness regarding putative cancer stem tissues.
A variety of force fields have thus far been demonstrated to investigate electromechanical properties of cells in a microfluidic platform which, however, are mostly based on fluid shear stress and may potentially cause irreversible cell damage. This work presents dielectric movement and deformation measurements of U937 monocytes and U937-differentiated macrophages in a low conductive medium inside a 3D carbon electrode array. Here, monocytes exhibited a crossover frequency around 150 kHz and presented maximum deformation index at 400 kHz and minimum deformation index at 1 MHz frequencies at 20 Vpeak-peak. Although macrophages were differentiated from monocytes, their crossover frequency was lower than 50 kHz at 10 Vpeak-peak. The change of the deformation index for macrophages was more constant and lower than the monocyte cells. Both dielectric mobility and deformation spectra revealed significant differences between the dielectric responses of U937 monocytes and U937-differentiated macrophages, which share the same origin. This method can be used for label-free, specific, and sensitive single-cell characterization. ISO1 Besides, damage of the cells by aggressive shear forces can, hence, be eliminated and cells can be used for downstream analysis. Our results showed that dielectric mobility and deformation have a great potential as an electromechanical biomarker to reliably characterize and distinguish differentiated cell populations from their progenitors.Due to risks from potential exposures to ionizing radiation (IR), improved radiological countermeasures are required, as well as rapid high-throughput biodosimetry. Genotypic variation in the general population contributes to differences in radiosensitivity that may affect biodosimetry accuracy. Previous studies utilized radiosensitive mutant mouse models (Parp1-/- and Atm-/-) to determine the effects of genotypic deficiency on radiation signatures. Here, we extend this approach by examining changes in the urinary metabolome in a hematopoietic (HP) resistant mouse model (p53-/-) after IR exposure. As p53 is a primary regulator in radiation response and apoptosis, limited hematopoietic stem cell apoptosis leads to reduced mortality at doses of ~8-10 Gy but increased mortality at higher doses (> 15 Gy) due to mitotic catastrophe in gastrointestinal (GI) crypt cells. Urine was collected from mice (wild-type (WT), p53+/-, and p53-/-) pre-irradiation and at 4 and 24 h after total body irradiation (TBI) (WT 8 and 10 Gy; p53-/- 10 Gy) for metabolic phenotyping using an ultra-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) platform. Minimal differences were detected between unirradiated WT, p53+/-, and p53-/- mice. While similar perturbations were observed for metabolites involved in tryptophan, vitamin B6, and histamine pathways, glycine conjugation, and redox metabolism for WT and p53-/- mice after TBI, an overall dampened response was observed in p53-deficient mice. Despite comparable metabolite patterns between genotypes, differentiation was achieved through receiver operating characteristic curve analysis with high specificity and sensitivity for carnitine, N1-acetylspermidine, and creatine. These studies highlight that both attenuated and dampened metabolic responses due to genetic variability in the general population need to be addressed in biodosimetry frameworks. We uncovered taxonomic diversity, country of origin and commodity type of intercepted ants at Taiwanese borders based on an 8 year database of 439 interception records. We found intercepted ants arrived predominantly via timber, a pattern likely reflecting the high domestic demand for foreign timber in Taiwan. The most frequently intercepted species were either arboreal or wood-dwelling ants, raising a concern of these ants constituting a next wave of ant invasion in Taiwan. Further analyses indicate that the taxonomic composition of intercepted ants does not match that of established non-native ant species, suggesting that interception data alone fails to provide adequate power to predict the establishment success of ants. Yet, interception frequency and selected life-history traits (i.e., flexible colony founding mode and general nesting habits) were shown to jointly serve as a practical predictor of the establishment risk of non-native ants. Consistent with other border interception databases, secondary introduction (i.e., species arriving from their introduced ranges instead of their native ranges) also represents a major pathway for transport of invasive ants into Taiwan, suggesting its role in shaping the global invasion of ants. Our findings offer baseline information for constructing a prediction framework for future ant invasions and assist in the decision-making process of quarantine authorities in Taiwan.Engineered cementitious composite (ECC) is a potential cement-based material with the abilities of large deformation and crack width control. However, ECC is difficult to popularize in many developing countries because the costs of silica sand and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber with a surface coating are too high for practical engineering. Therefore, we proposed an economical ECC with superfine river sand and polypropylene (PP) fiber (SSPP-ECC) to replace PVA fiber and silica sand. The SSPP-ECC proposed in this paper is a sustainable material using local material ingredients, which has considerable adaptability for large-scale engineering applications. The 16 groups of specimens were prepared through a factorial design method, curing for four-point bending tests. The bending strength, deflection, flexural modulus of elasticity, and crack width were measured and calculated during the test. The factor analysis of the test results shows that the contents of fiber and fly ash had significant effects on the ductility of SSPP-ECC with an extra combined effect at the same time, and a response surface model with high accuracy was fitted to predict the yield length of SSPP-ECC. The ductility of SSPP-ECC was positively related to its crack-control ability and it was shown that the crack width of SSPP-ECC increased significantly with a high content of superfine sand. This paper proposed a reasonable way to utilize superfine sand and provided the mix proportion of SSPP-ECC with characteristics of deformation hardening and multi-cracking, which may cater to the demands of many concrete components on ductility and crack resistance.
