mmersion bathing is a family-friendly process that can be implemented across an organization. The objectives of this study were to identify the presence of different spermatozoa subpopulations (SPs) according to their kinematic characteristics in the sperm of common carp and to test the effects of cryopreservation and prolonged (6-day) storage at room temperature (RT; 23 °C) and 4 °C on spermatozoa motility and subsequently on SP dynamics. Two-step clustering analyses identified three motile SPs based on their kinematic properties SP1 contained spermatozoa with low velocity and low/moderate STR/LIN values (slow non-linear SP); SP2 was comprised of spermatozoa with high velocities and high STR/LIN values (fast linear SP); SP3 was characterized with high VCL, and moderate LIN/STR (fast non-linear SP); and an additional SP0 was added comprising immotile spermatozoa. Total motility, progressive motility and VCL decreased after cryopreservation to approximately 50% of their value in fresh sperm, while the frequency of SPs characterized by high values of motility parameters declined in favor of those with low motility values and SP0. Motility values of fresh and cryopreserved spermatozoa which were washed with fresh extender after thawing decreased significantly after 24 h of storage at RT and after 72 h of storage at 4 °C, while cryopreserved sperm which remained in the original cryomedium faced a steep decline in motility after only 2 h of storage. As subpopulation frequencies followed this dynamic, this indicates that cryopreserved sperm should be washed with fresh extender in order to obtain favorable sperm kinematic properties after freezing.Drug resistance is one of the major challenges for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with sorafenib. Our present study found that sorafenib resistant (SR) HCC cells showed epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) characteristics with the downregulation of epithelial marker and upregulation of mesenchymal makers. The expression of Snail, a core factor of EMT, was increased in HCC/SR cells, while knockdown of Snail can restore sorafenib sensitivity and EMT potential of HCC/SR cells. Further, the upregulation of protein stability was responsible for the upregulation of Snail in HCC/SR cells. ATM and CSN2, which can stabilize Snail protein, were increased in HCC/SR cells. Knockdown of ATM and CSN2 can suppress the expression of Snail and increase sorafenib sensitivity of HCC/SR cells. It indicated that targeted inhibition of Snail might be helpful to overcome sorafenib resistance of HCC patients.Due to cause the deterioration of water quality and can produce toxic nitrite, the nitrate constituted of great threatens to human health and eco-systematic safety. Among most well-known biotechnology to remove nitrate, the integrated heterotrophic and autotrophic denitrification (IHAD) process is promising, especially for the organic-limited polluted water. In this work, the IHAD coupled manganese oxidation (IHAD-MnO) process was developed by using Pseudomonas sp. SZF15 (Gram negative strain, and rod-shaped morphology with 2.3 μm in length) in the glass serum bottles. It was found that limited organic content could accelerate nitrate removal rate, and manganese oxidation efficiency can reach up to 60.08%. To further explain carbon conversion characteristics of the process, pure heterotrophic condition assays were conducted, the results confirmed that inorganic carbon will be generated by organic carbon metabolism in heterotrophic condition, the maximum accumulation content of inorganic carbon was 142.21 mg/L (when the initial organic carbon level was 293 mg-C/L). Subsequently, since the consumption of organic carbon, biogenic inorganic carbon can be further utilized by microorganisms to support autotrophic denitrification (AuDN). selleck products Besides, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was employed to analyze precipitation products produced from the process. The magnified Mn 2p spectra results showed that a typical characteristic peak of manganese dioxide was observed with the intense peak at 641.8 eV and a satellite peak at 653.7 eV, respectively. This showed that Mn(II) was oxidized to manganese dioxide by the process, which may be a functional material with adsorption properties. The process posed a highly efficient and cost effective solution with less carbon consumption and less greenhouse gas emission for sustainable water treatment technologies.Humic acid can improve soil nutrients and promote plant growth. Weathered coal and lignite can be used as agricultural resources due to high humic acid content, but their impact on soil NH3 volatilization and CO2 emissions are yet to be determined. In this study, a field experiment was carried out to compare the effects of four types of humic acid isolated from coal (pulverized weathered coal (HC), pulverized lignite (HL), alkalized weathered coal (AC) and alkalized lignite (AL)) on NH3 volatilization, CO2 emissions, pH, the C/N ratio and enzyme activities in soil cultivated with maize. The effect of biotechnology humic acids (BHA) was also examined for comparison. HL, AC, AL and BHA all increased cumulative NH3 losses by 147.7, 278.5, 113.9, and 355.3%, respectively, compared with the control (chemical fertilizer only), and notably, BHA caused an increase of 90.71% compared with the humic acids isolated from coal. A significant increase in cumulative CO2 losses was observed only under AL treatment, by 14.44-24.90% compared with all other treatments. Soil urease activity was positively correlated with cumulative NH3 losses (P less then 0.001), while the soil C/N ratio (P less then 0.001) and soil sucrase activity (P less then 0.05) were positively correlated with cumulative CO2 losses. Since humic acid from pulverized weathered coal caused no increase in NH3 volatilization or CO2 emissions, it is therefore thought to be the most suitable humic acid for field application. The toxic emissions from coal combustion associated with domestic winter heating requirements are an important public health issue. Waste cooking oil (WCO) holds promise as a means of reducing pollutant emissions thereby improving human health with the co-benefit of decreasing climate-forcing gas emissions by avoiding the combustion of mineral coal. With an annual production of ~2.17 Mt of WCO in Northern China, it could be used to meet the winter heating demand of ~3.25 million rural households, offsetting ~9.83 Mt of raw coal consumption. Through the adoption of coal-to-WCO shift in rural regions of 15 provinces, approximately 15.0%, 15.6%, 15.9% and 13.7%, respectively of CO, PM2.5, SO2 and NOX emissions would be eliminated. It is estimated that such a change would remove the respective contributions of these pollutants to the premature deaths of respectively, 63,400, 29,300, 173,00 and 31,300 rural residents. Such a positive health impact on the labor cohort would reduce the loss of labor supply and work time, as well as producing billions of RMB in economic benefits.
