Linear polyimides of intrinsic microporosity have been intensively investigated for gas separation due to their microporous structure and high surface area. The microporous structure in the linear polyimides of intrinsic microporosity comes from their contorted structure. Therefore, most linear polyimides without contorted structure do not have micropores. In this work, the microporous polyimides are constructed through the condensation of a cross-linkable dianhydride monomer with two novel nitrogen-rich diamine monomers and post crosslinking reaction. The linear polyimide precursors without contorted structure have the same main-chain structure. The introduction of crosslinked structure endow the crosslinked polyimides (PI-CLs) with microporous structure. The microporous structure in PI-CLs can be tuned by changing the substituents of the linear polyimide precursors. The PI-CLs have competitive CO2 uptake capacity (7.3-9.4 wt%) at 273 K and 1 bar. Particularly, the crosslinked polyimide containing trifluoromethyl groups (CF3-PI-CL) shows high CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity (72 and 22) at 273 K, which are among the best results for reported porous materials. This work reveals that the introduction of crosslinked structure and changing substituents is an efficient method for constructing microporous polyimides with abundant micropores and excellent CO2 selective adsorption capacity. This method also has great potential for fabricating high-performance microporous polymers based on other linear polymers without rigid contorted structure. INTRODUCTION As the world's population ages, the prevalence of cognitive impairment associated with age increases. This increase is particularly pronounced in Asia and South-America. The objective of this study was to investigate separately the longitudinal association of physical activity and cognitive function in; older adults in Mexico and South Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a secondary analysis of two surveys, The Mexican Health and aging Study (MHAS) (n = 5853) and Korean Longitudinal Study of aging (KLoSA) (n = 5188), designed to study the aging process of older adults living in Mexico and South Korea. Participants older than 50 years were selected from rural and urban areas achieving a representative sample. Physical activity was assessed using self-report. Cognition was assessed using Cross-Cultural Cognitive Examination (CCCE) and Minimental state examination (MMSE) in Mexico and South Korea respectively. Here we investigate the longitudinal association between physical activity and cognition during 3 years for MHAS and 4 years for KLoSA using multiple linear regression analyses. RESULTS The prevalence of physical activity was 40.68 % in MHAS and 35.57 % in KLoSA. In the adjusted longitudinal multivariate analysis, an independent association was found between physical activity and MMSE score OR 0.0866 (CI 0.0266-0.1467 p-value 0.0047) in the Korean older adults, while there was no significant association in MHAS. CONCLUSIONS Physical activity could have a protective effect on the cognitive decline associated with aging in the Korean population. INTRODUCTION Tongue-tie, or ankyloglossia, occurs in 4-10% of the population. Treatment of tongue-tie has increased by 420% in Australia between 2006 and 2016 and 866% in the United States between 1997 and 2012. Despite limited evidence, it has been suggested that tongue-tie can result in speech sound disorder (SSD). This study aimed to investigate tongue mobility and speech production outcomes in children with and without tongue-tie diagnoses. METHOD Fifty-nine children aged 2; 1 to 4; 11 years were recruited and formed three groups treated tongue-tie (TTT), untreated tongue-tie (UTT) and no tongue-tie (NTT). Measures of lingual frenulum structure and function, tongue mobility, speech production, and parent and clinician intelligibility ratings were collected. RESULTS No statistically significant differences were found between the TTT, UTT and NTT groups for tongue mobility, speech production or intelligibility. Significantly more UTT children had a history of speech pathology attendance than participants in the NTT group. Eliglustat cost CONCLUSION This study provides preliminary evidence of no difference between tongue mobility and speech outcomes in young children with or without intervention for tongue-tie during infancy. This study assists with clinical decision making and makes recommendations for families not to proceed with surgical intervention for tongue-tie during infancy, for the sole outcome of improving speech production later in life. Cells recognize virus nucleic acid by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), virus involve in the activation of signaling cascade of variable adaptor proteins, TANK-binding kinase1(TBK1)/ inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit epsilon(IKKi) complex, IκB kinase(IKKs) to trigger activation of transcription factor, interferon regulatory factor 3/7(IRF3/7), ultimately, leading to the production of type I interferon and exert anti-viral effects. In this study, E3 ubiquitin ligase ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing 8(ASB8) interacted with TBK1/IKKi and phosphorylation modification of ASB8 at site of Ser17 to further strengthen its ubiquitination activity were verified. Conversely, phosphorylated ASB8 accelerate K48-linked ubiquitination and degradation of TBK1/IKKi, which further reduces phosphorylation level of IRF3 and inhibits production of IFN-β. At the same time, a new bridge molecule Leucine-rich repeat containing protein 10B(LRRC10B) upregulated after viral infection are involved in the formation and interaction with ASB8-TBK1/IKKi complex was reported. Our study reveals a new mechanism of ubiquitin ligase ASB8 modulating antiviral innate immunity by altering stability of TBK1/IKKi kinase complex. Current medicine is practiced in an organ-based, function-appraised manner with less attention paid to the tissue characteristics of the appraised organs. The fundamentals of this paradigm have been the product of an oversimplified and often layman-based perceptions of the studied organ over the years. These perceptions drove the current definitions of normality and abnormality, parameters used in the diagnosis of the disease, goals of treatment and studied outcomes. Despite the explosive advancement in technology that could have potentially changed our 'upstream' thinking, practitioners remain captives of these old beliefs and have streamlined current technology in a 'downstream' fashion; in the form of goal-directed protocols, and engineering systems that would study their implementations. As a result, diseases continue to evolve, become more resistant to therapy, late to diagnose, and with a persistent worsening of outcomes. With a primarily focus on the heart and from an anesthesiologist prospective, we challenge the fundamentals of the current paradigm from an 'upstream' prospective.
