20 Oven Websites That Are Taking The Internet By Storm
How to Repair Common Oven Parts

The oven is an appliance used in kitchens that is typically used to cook food. The heat from the oven sterilizes food items and kills the majority of micro-organisms present in them.

Every baker needs an accurate oven thermometer. Knowing how your oven functions will help improve your baking cooking, roasting and cooking skills. It will also eliminate those hot spots that can ruin cookies, cakes and baked items.

Thermostat

The thermostat is among the most vital components of your oven, helping ensure that the temperature of your food is exactly what you've set in the control panel. However, just like any other electro mechanical switch or sensor it may have issues that can cause the oven to over heat or under heat, or not be able to keep the temperature you've set.

The oven thermostat is essentially an extremely small piece of different metals bonded together. When heated, the metals expand or bend at different rates. This creates an electrical circuit. When the thermostat's metal attains the temperature you've set on the control panel, it shuts off the heating element's power. As the oven cools it expands the bimetallic strip, re-establishing circuit and turning on heating element. This process is repeated repeatedly to maintain a constant oven temperature.

It is necessary to disconnect the oven and all screws removed in order to determine the problem with the thermostat. If you own a multimeter (which is a device that detects electrical current), set it to the ohms setting, and then test the thermostat. If the multimeter reads 0 or very close to it the thermostat is operating properly and doesn't require to be replaced.

If the multimeter doesn't detect anything it means that the thermostat is defective. It is time to get it replaced. Cooker Spare Parts recommends that you replace the thermostat with a brand new one of the same type as your old one. They are available online or at a kitchen goods store, and can be bought at a reasonable cost.

Bake Element

Ovens can't be complete without the bake element which creates heat to make your oven cook food. It's a small component that transforms electricity into the high temperatures required to bake, roast, and broiling. Heating best ovens and hobs are usually found in electric ovens and ranges and can be either covered or concealed under the oven's floor.

Generally, oven heating elements are made of high-resistance materials such as nickel-chromium alloy. They work by converting electrical energy into heat via the process of resistance, which then radiates through the oven interior to raise the temperature to the desired temperature to cook different kinds of food items.

When you turn on your oven the heating element gets to generate heat through the high-voltage electricity flowing across its metal surface. When electric current flows through it the element gets heated up. When the element reaches the temperature it is intended to it starts to glow red hot.

The baked element is the main source of heat used in most oven functions. It's usually found in the bottom of the oven, and is used for the self-cleaning feature in many ovens with automatic cleaning. You may observe that the oven does not warm up as quickly, or that your food hasn't fully cooked.

To verify that you have a working oven baking element connect your multimeter to its black and red ports, and then place the probes made of metal against each other on one side of your element. Place the other end of the baking element against one terminal and place your hands on it. If the element feels warm, take it off it and start testing again. If not, remove it and try again.

Broil Element

The broil element is typically located at the top of the oven and can provide high-temperature heat similar to a grill to cook or brown food. The oven's broil setting can be a great way to quickly sear meat or crisp vegetables, to heat up lasagna or caramelize the top of the casserole.

Similar to the bake element, the broiler heating element transforms electrical energy into heat through the process of resistance. It is composed of an inner core consisting of wires made of metal, encased in an insulating and expanded product called perlite. The core of the element is then covered with an outer layer of stainless steel to shield the wires from direct contact with the oven. The three-layer structure helps reduce the temperature of the broil element which makes it more durable and safer than the older designs of elements.

You can use any heating element you want to use for baking or broiling in your oven. However, it is important to choose one that is in line with the wattage that your oven is rated for. A different wattage can harm your oven, or cause it to overheat. The voltage and current ratings of the new heating elements can be located on the control panel of your oven. This allows you to determine the power and rating of your oven.

You should also test the resistance of your old element and compare it to the power of the new broiler heating element. The greater the resistance, the greater power an oven element uses.

If the heating element in your broiler is not working or functions in any way, you should replace it right away. Your oven must work correctly to be able to cook your favourite meals. If your oven doesn't operate at all, or only intermittently, the issue may be with another part.

Light Bulb and Assembly

The oven light helps you keep an eye on your food while it cooks without opening the door to let heat escape. The light will also notify you when the casserole has been cooked. It's not unusual for the bulb to die. It can be frustrating but you can do it yourself. Check that the breaker is not tripped, and that the connector has three prongs.

First, take out the old light bulb and locate the new one. You may need to search the internet for a replacement that matches the wattage and the type of oven you have. Some ovens use normal appliance bulbs that are 40 watts in power, while others need a halogen lamp up to 50 watts. Be aware that the oil from your hands can damage the bulb, so consider using cotton gloves when handling it.

Before you put the new bulb into place it is important to first remove it from its glass casing. It is important to do this slowly to avoid breaking it. Then, you'll have to eliminate the air inside the bulb and fill it with a mixture of gases. This will provide a longer life for the filament.

If your bulb keeps running out it could be an electrical problem that requires an expert to fix it. Make sure you're using the correct oven bulb and look over your Use and Care Guide for more troubleshooting advice. And remember that it's always an excellent idea to unplug your oven and disconnect it from the outlet before you begin any repair. This will help protect you from electrical shock.

Vent Tube

The vent tube is an essential oven part as it allows for a tiny amount of airflow inside the cavity. This allows the bake element to circulate heat throughout the oven and ensures that the temperature is evenly dispersed.

It also allows the vapors escape from the oven, and smoke to be drained from the cooking surface. It is essential to ensure the proper operation of any gas or electric oven.

Vents for ovens can become blocked due to many factors. Accidental spills or splatters may leave sticky residues on oven vents. They may draw in dust, debris and other contaminants that could cause clogs over time. Grease and oil can also become airborne and then settle around vents. Other environmental factors, such as kitchen renovations and construction work can bring dust or other contaminants into the vents, which can cause blockages or clogs.

Based on the oven model, the vent tube may comprise a bottle guide 20 and spreader 46, as well as fill tip 12 that are constructed with the pipe 32. The bottle guide 20 can have a tapered edge that is complemented by the tapered inside edge of the spreader, allowing the vent tubes to be placed easily into different sizes and shapes of bottle necks.

A blocked or clogged vent tube can cause the loss of pressure inside the enclosing structure, which can create a downdraft situation that pulls exhaust down the vent and backwards through the oven burners, causing damage to the oven's components. Contact a professional if you think your vent pipe might be blocked or clogged. They will determine the cause and make recommendations on how to clear or clean the vent.
