Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction predicts worse outcomes in acute pulmonary embolism (PE). Because computed tomography (CT) pulmonary angiography visualizes cardiac structures, it is a potential method for assessing RV function without the delays associated with inpatient echocardiography.

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the diagnostic accuracy of CT scan findings for detecting RV dysfunction compared with echocardiography.

We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE from inception to April 2020 for studies comparing RV dysfunction on CT scan with echocardiography standard. Study quality was assessed with the QUADAS-2 risk of bias tool. Meta-analysis was performed using a bivariate mixed effects regression framework.

After screening, 26studies (3508 patients) were included. In a pooled analysis, septal deviation (5studies; 459 patients) had a sensitivity of 0.31 (95% CI0.25-0.38; I
=0%), specificity of 0.98 (95% CI0.90-1.00; I
=59.4%), and positive likelihood ratio of 13.6 (95% Crther studies are warranted.It is an open question as to whether cooling-induced muscle contraction occurs in the in vivo environment. In this investigation, we tested the hypotheses that a rise in intracellular Ca²⁺ concentration ([Ca²⁺]i) and concomitant muscle contraction could be evoked in vivo by reducing muscle temperature and that this phenomenon would be facilitated or inhibited by specific pharmacological interventions designed to impact Ca²⁺-induced Ca²⁺-release (CICR). The magnitude, location, and temporal profile of [Ca²⁺]i were estimated using fura-2 loading. Lowering the temperature of the muscle surface to ~5°C produced active tension and discrete sites with elevated [Ca²⁺]i. This [Ca²⁺]i elevation differed in magnitude from fiber to fiber and also from site to site within a fiber. Caffeine at 1.25 and 5.0 mM reduced the magnitude of cooling necessary to elevate [Ca²⁺]i (i.e., from ~5°C to ~8 and ~16°C, respectively, both p less then 0.05) and tension. Conversely, 25.6 mM procaine lowered the temperature at which [Ca²⁺]i elevation and tension were detected to ~2°C (p less then 0.05). Herein we demonstrate the spatial and temporal relationship between cooling-induced [Ca²⁺]i elevation and muscle contractile force in vivo and the plasticity of these responses with CICR promotion and inhibition.Severe sepsis in immunocompromised children is associated with increased mortality. This paper describes the epidemiology landscape, clinical acuity, and outcomes for severe sepsis in pediatric intestinal (ITx) and multi-visceral (MVTx) transplant recipients requiring admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Severe sepsis episodes were retrospectively reviewed in 51 ITx and MVTx patients receiving organs between 2009 and 2015. Twenty-nine (56.8%) patients had at least one sepsis episode (total of 63 episodes) through December 2016. Bacterial etiologies accounted for 66.7% of all episodes (n = 42), occurring a median of 122.5 days following transplant (IQR 59-211.8 days). Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) accounted for 73.8% of bacterial infections; extended spectrum beta-lactamase producers, vancomycin-resistant enterococcus, and highly-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the most commonly identified. Increased mechanical ventilation and vasoactive requirements were noted in MDRO episodes (OR 3.03, 95% CI 1.09-8.46 and OR 3.07, 95% CI 1.09-8.61, respectively; p less then .05) compared to non-MDRO episodes. PICU length of stay was significantly increased for MDRO episodes (7 vs. 3 days, p = .02). Graft loss was 24.1% (n = 7) and mortality was 24.1% (n = 7) in patients who experienced severe sepsis. Further attention is needed for MDRO risk mitigation and modification of sepsis treatment guidelines to ensure MDRO coverage for this population.The Frith-Happé Animations Test, depicting interactions between triangles, is widely used to measure theory of mind (ToM) ability in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This test began with recording, transcribing, and subjectively scoring participants' verbal descriptions, which consistently found ToM-specific difficulties in ASD. More recently in 2011, White et al. created a more objective version of this ToM test using multiple-choice questions. However, there has been surprisingly little uptake of this test, hence it is currently unclear if White et al.'s findings replicate. Further, the lack of an online version of the test may be hampering its use in large-scale studies and outside of research settings. Addressing these issues, we report the development of a web-based version of the Frith-Happé Animations Test for autistic and neurotypical adults. An online version of the test was developed in a large general population sample (study 1; N = 285) and online data were compared with those collected in a lab-bah and clinics to measure mentalising ability in autism.Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common digestive system tumors in the world. Many circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the progression of GC. The purpose of this study was to delve into the expression characteristics and biological functions of circ_0000064 in GC, and further study its mechanisms. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to detect circ_0000064 expression in 61 GC tissues and cell lines. Circ_0000064 knockdown was successfully modeled with siRNA. The effects of circ_0000064 on the biological functions of GC cells were analyzed by CCK-8, BrdU, and Transwell assays. Bioinformatics and dual-luciferase reporter gene assay were adopted to explore the relations between circ_0000064 and microRNA-621 (miR-621). Western blot was used to examine the regulatory function of circ_0000064 and miR-621 on SYF2 pre-mRNA splicing factor 2. Cric_0000064 expression was elevated in GC tissues and cell lines. Knocking down cric_0000064 could inhibit the viability, migration, and invasion of GC cells.
