3D-carbon nanomaterials have proven to be high-performance transducers in electrochemical sensors but their integration into miniaturized devices is challenging. Herein, we develop printable freestanding laser-induced carbon nanofibers (f-LCNFs) with outstanding analytical performance that furthermore can easily allow such miniaturization through a paper-based microfluidic strategy. The f-LCNF electrodes were generated from electrospun polyimide nanofibers and one-step laser carbonization. A three-electrode system made of f-LCNFs exhibited a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 1 nM (S/N = 8) for anodic stripping analysis of silver ions, exhibiting the peak at ca. 100 mV vs f-LCNFs RE, without the need of stirring. The as-described system was implemented in miniaturized devices via wax-based printing, in which their electroanalytical performance was characterized for both outer- and inner-sphere redox markers and then applied to the detection of dopamine (the peak appeared at ca. 200 mV vs f-LCNFs RE) with a remarkable LOD of 55 pM. When modified with Nafion, the f-LCNFs were highly selective to dopamine even against high concentrations of uric and ascorbic acids. Especially the integration into closed microfluidic systems highlights the strength 3D porous structures provides excellent analytical performance paving the way for their translation to affordable lab-on-a-chip devices where mass-production capability, unsophisticated fabrication techniques, transfer-free, and customized electrode designs can be realized.This study presents hydrological impacts of future climate change (CC) and land use/cover change (LUCC) for the Srepok River Basin (SRB) in the Vietnam's Central Highlands. The hydrology cycle of this basin was reproduced using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) allowing an evaluation of hydrological responses to CC and LUCC. Future climate scenarios of the 2015-2100 period under Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 simulated by five General Circulation Models (GCMs) and LUCC scenario in 2050 were developed. Compared to the reference scenario (1980-2005), future LUCC increases the streamflow (0.25%) and surface runoff (1.2%) and reduces the groundwater discharge (2.1%). Climate change may cause upward trends in streamflow (0.1 to 2.7%), surface runoff (0.4 to 4.3%), and evapotranspiration (0.8 to 3%), and a change in the groundwater discharge (- 1.7 to 0.1%). The combination of CC and LUCC increases the streamflow (0.2 to 2.8%), surface runoff (1.6 to 5.6%), and evapotranspiration (1.0 to 3.1%), and reduces the groundwater discharge (1.5 to 2.7%) with respect to the reference scenario. Moreover, the results noted that the water scarcity may happen in the dry-seasonal months.Gray whales utilizing their foraging grounds off northeastern Sakhalin Island, Russia, have been increasingly exposed to anthropogenic activities related to oil and gas development over the past two decades. In 2015, four seismic vessels, contracted by two operators, conducted surveys near and within the gray whale feeding grounds. Mitigation and monitoring plans were developed prior to the survey and implemented in the field, with real-time data transfers to assist the implementation of measures aimed at minimizing impacts of acoustic exposure. This study examined the behavioral response of gray whales relative to vessel proximities and sounds generated during seismic exploration. Five shore-based teams monitored gray whale behavior from 1 June to 30 September using theodolite tracking and focal follow methodologies. Behavioral data were combined with acoustic and benthic information from studies conducted during the same period. A total of 1270 tracks (mean duration = 0.9 h) and 401 focal follows (1.1 h) were collected with gray whales exposed to sounds ranging from 59 to 172 dB re 1 μPa2 SPL. Mixed models were used to examine 13 movement and 10 respiration response variables relative to "natural," acoustic, and non-acoustic explanatory variables. Water depth and behavioral state were the largest predictors of gray whale movement and respiration patterns. As vessels approached whales with increasing seismic/vessel sound exposure levels and decreasing distances, several gray whale movement and respiration response variables significantly changed (increasing speed, directionality, surface time, respiration intervals, etc.). Although the mitigation measures employed could have reduced larger/long-term responses and sensitization to the seismic activities, this study illustrates that mitigation measures did not eliminate behavioral responses, at least in the short-term, of feeding gray whales to the activities.Recently, ecotourism has been identified as an adaptation strategy for mitigating climate change impacts, as it can optimize carbon sequestration, biodiversity recovery, and livelihood benefits and generate new opportunities for the sustenance of the economy, environment, and society of the area endowed with natural resources and cultural values. With the growing responsibility at the global level, ecotourism resource management (ERM) becomes inevitable for its sustainable requirements. The integration of ecological and socio-economic factors is vital for ERM, as has been demonstrated by developing an Ecotourism Sustainability Maximization Model for an area under study, that is the Yuksam-Dzongri corridor (also known as Kangchendzonga Base Camp Trek), in the Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve (KBR), Sikkim, India. This model is based on the earlier developed ecotourism sustainability assessment (ESA) framework by the authors, which is based on the hierarchical relationship among ecotourism principles, criteria, indicators, and verifiers. Employing such relationships, this paper attempts to maximize ecotourism sustainability (ES) as a function of its sustainability principles, criteria, indicators, and verifiers, subject to the constraints identified through the safe minimum standard (SMS) approach by employing linear programming. Using 58 indicators as decision variables and 114 constraints, the model resulted in a maximum level of achievable ES with a score of 84.6%, allowing the resultant optimum values of the indicators to be maintained at the operational level. A central tenet of the model is the collective responsibility and adoption of a holistic approach involving the government, tourists, tourism enterprises, and local people.With the increasing number of tourists in recent years, ensuring the safety of visitors in tourist attractions has become an enormous challenge for safety management. At present, many experiments have been conducted to study pedestrian dynamics, but empirical data on tourists' movement state under different weather conditions are still few. Therefore, a series of field experiments were conducted to analyze the effect of external weather and temperature on pedestrians' movement characteristics. The results show that pedestrians are more concentrated in the middle and inner tracks during the turning process to seek the shortest path on rainy days. Moreover, it is found that pedestrians speed up under the conditions with low (below 10 °C) and high (over 30 °C) temperatures. The average speed of pedestrians is 0.677 m/s as the temperature is below 0 °C, which is much higher than the average speed of pedestrians in other temperature ranges. In addition, the speed of pedestrians changed more dramatically under the low-temperature conditions. It is hoped that this research can provide a reference for crowd control and rational design of pedestrian facilities.Here, we characterized a new mycovirus from the fungus Nigrospora chinensis, which was named "Nigrospora chinensis victorivirus 1" (NcVV1). The NcVV1 genome is 5283 bp in length, containing two continuous open reading frames (ORFs), ORF1 and ORF2. ORF1 and ORF2 were predicted to encode a putative coat protein (CP) and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), respectively. The stop codon of ORF1 overlaps with the start codon of ORF2 by the tetranucleotide sequence AUGA. Phylogenetic analysis based on amino acid sequences of RdRp and CP indicated that NcVV1 clustered with members of the genus Victorivirus in the family Totiviridae. To our knowledge, this was the first report of a mycovirus infecting N. chinensis.
Research has shown that a higher dose of bupivacaine administered in continuous paravertebral block (CPVB) provides a greater analgesic effect after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). In this randomized, controlled, double-blind study, we hypothesized that 0.25% 8ml/h of levobupivacaine administered in CPVB after VATS provides a greater analgesic effect than 0.125% 8ml/h.
Fifty patients who underwent unilateral VATS were randomized to receive a postoperative continuous infusion of 0.125% (low group, n = 25) or 0.25% (high group, n = 25) levobupivacaine at 8mL/h for CPVB. The primary outcome was the visual analog scale (VAS) score during coughing on the morning of postoperative day (POD) 1. The secondary outcomes were the VAS scores at rest and during coughing on POD 2, the number of anesthetized dermatomes, the frequency of rescue analgesics, postoperative nausea and vomiting, patient satisfaction, and adverse events and complications.
There was no significant difference in the VAS score during coughing on the morning of POD 1 between the low and high groups [median, 37.5 (interquartile range 21-50) vs. 40.0 (interquartile range 21-50), respectively; p = 0.79]. Similarly, there were no significant differences in any secondary outcomes between the two groups.
Levobupivacaine at 0.25% 8ml/h in CPVB did not provide better analgesia after VATS over 0.125% 8ml/h.

We sought to identify clinical predictors of favorable short-term outcomes associated with cervical interlaminar epidural injection (CIEI). selleck chemical Previous studies investigating the predictive factors of CIEI efficacy have shown inconsistent results. Gaining information on the possible response determinants of CIEI is necessary for appropriate treatment selection and outcomes prediction in the treatment of cervical radiculopathy.
We analyzed the clinical data of 72 patients who received fluoroscopic-guided CIEI using the paramedian approach for cervical radiculopathy to identify the predictive factors for short-term outcomes of CIEI. Demographic characteristics, history of neck surgery, diagnosis, initial numeric rating score, duration of symptoms, Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questions, painDETECT questionnaire, neck disability index, and ventral epidural spread of contrast medium were assessed. Treatment success was defined as at least a 50% reduction in the numeric rating score after CIEI and was designated as a good response.
The short-term success rate of CIEI for cervical radiculopathy was 55.56%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis established that spinal stenosis (odds ratio 0.183; P = 0.012), a longer duration of > 24weeks of symptoms (odds ratio 0.206; P = 0.026), and combined positive results for the DN4 and painDETECT (odds ratio, 0.019; P = 0.008) decreased the odds ratio of a good response, 2-3weeks after CIEI.
CIEI provides a significant short-term outcome in patients with cervical radiculopathy. However, CIEI efficacy may be negatively affected in patients with spinal stenosis, the presence of a chronic state, and a possible neuropathic pain component.
