Diabetes and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are worldwide pandemics that have had a major impact on public health throughout the globe. Risk factors for developing diabetes and having adverse outcomes of COVID-19 appear to be similar; metabolic factors (such as obesity), non-White ethnicity and poorer socioeconomic status appear to be risk factors for both. Diabetes and COVID-19 have a significant effect on populations adversely affected by health inequality. Whilst we hope that COVID-19 will be mitigated by widespread use of vaccines, no such prospect exists for mitigating the pandemic of diabetes. In this brief opinion review, I compare risk factors for diabetes and adverse outcomes of COVID-19 and argue that tackling health and social inequality is likely to play a major role in solving the global diabetes pandemic and improve outcomes of COVID-19.The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the question of whether psycho-legal assessments can be executed remotely in a manner that adheres to the rigorous standards applied during in-person assessments. General guidelines have evolved, but to date, there are no explicit directives about whether and how to proceed. This paper reviews professional, ethical, and legal challenges that experts should consider before conducting such an evaluation remotely. read more Although the discussion is more widely applicable, remote forensic psychological assessment of adults alleging childhood abuse is used as an example throughout, due to the complexity of these cases, the ethical dilemmas they can present, and the need to carefully assess non-verbal trauma-related symptoms. The use of videoconferencing technology is considered in terms of potential benefits of this medium, as well as challenges this method could pose to aspects of interviewing and psychometric testing. The global pandemic is also considered with respect to its effects on functioning and mental health and the confounding impact such a crisis has on assessing the relationship between childhood abuse and current psychological functioning. Finally, for those evaluators who want to engage in remote assessment, practice considerations are discussed.
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is currently recommended for unresectable intrahepatic tumours with no vascular invasion or metastasis to other organs. It is based on drug-eluting microspheres pre-loaded with chemotherapeutics, which are injected selectively into vessels supplying the tumour, to embolize them inducing ischaemia, and elute the drug, to induce tumour response. We present our initial experience with novel irinotecan- loaded Embocure Plus microspheres in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer tumours in the liver, and their effect on HCT-116 cell cultures in vitro.

Three consecutive male patients (median age 62 [50-76] years) with liver metastatic colorectal cancer tumours were selected. All patients had a pre-procedure contrast-enhanced computed tomography, confirming multiple metastatic liver tumours (mean tumour diameter = 42 mm; range 14-77 mm) and periprocedural dyna-CT scans for rapid treatment results assessment.
Human colon HCT116 cancer cell line was cultured, irinotecae. Embocure Plus microspheres are safe and technically feasible for superselective chemoembolization of metastatic colorectal cancer liver tumour. Dyna-CT can be used for assessment of treatment results during repeated TACE procedures. We aim in the current study to review pulmonary and extra-pulmonary imaging features in patients infected with COVID-19. COVID-19 appears to be a highly contagious viral disease that attacks the respiratory system causing pneumonia. Since the beginning of the outbreak, several reports have been published describing various radiological patterns related to COVID-19. Radiological features of COVID-19 are classified into; pulmonary signs of which ground glass opacities are considered the characteristic followed by consolidation, and extra-pulmonary signs such as pulmonary embolism and pneumothorax, which are far less common and appear later in progressive disease. We review the different structured reporting systems that are published by different groups of radiologists using simple unified terms to enable good communication between the radiologist and the referring physician. Computed tomography of the chest is beneficial for early diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia, assessment of disease progression and guide to therapy, surveillance of patients with response to therapy, prediction of overlying bacterial infection, differentiation from simulating lesions, and screening with prevention and controls of the disease.
The aim of this study was to evaluate how chest computed tomography (CT) can predict pejorative evolution in COVID-19 patients.

Data on 349 consecutive patients who underwent a chest CT either for severe suspected COVID-19 pneumonia or clinical aggravation and with COVID-19 were retrospectively analysed. In total, 109 had laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection by a positive reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and were included. The main outcomes for pejorative evolution were death and the need for invasive endotracheal ventilation (IEV). All the CT images were retrospectively reviewed, to analyse the CT signs and semiologic patterns of pulmonary involvement.

Among the 109 COVID-19 patients, 73 (67%) had severe symptoms of COVID-19, 28 (25.7%) needed an IEV, and 11 (10.1%) died. The following signs were significantly associated with both mortality and need for IEV traction bronchiectasis and total affected lung volume ≥ 50% (p < 10-3). Other CT signs were only associated with the need of IEV vascular dilatation, air bubble sign, peribronchovascular thickening, interlobular thickening, and number of involved lobes ≥ 4 (p < 10-3).

On a chest CT performed during the first week of the symptoms, the presence of traction bronchiectasis and high values of affected lung volume are associated with the need for IEV, and with mortality, in COVID-19 patients.
