To determine and compare the accuracy and efficiency of a dynamic navigation system (DNS) with a freehand (FH) technique when conducting root-end resection in a human cadaver model.
Forty roots in cadaver heads were included and divided into two groups DNS (n=20) and FH (n=20). Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of all teeth were taken. The drilling path and depth were planned virtually to using the X-guide software (X-Nav Technologies, Lansdale, PA, USA). Osteotomy and root-end resection were done under navigation in the DNS group, and freehand under the dental operating microscope in the FH group. Post-operative CBCTs were taken. Linear deviations, angular deflection, time of operation and number of mishaps were compared with determine the accuracy and efficiency. Shapiro-Wilk, one-way ANOVA and Fisher exact tests were used (P<0.05).
Linear deviations, angular deflection and operation time were significantly less in the DNS group (P<0.05). The number of mishaps was not different between en using the freehand technique. The dynamic navigation system has the potential to be a safe and reliable technological addition to endodontic microsurgery.As availability of health care data for research opens up new frontiers in medical statistics, keeping a focus on the science behind the data is more important than ever to promote sound research and protect the validity of research results. It discusses several key takeaways of this paper, including causal inference for big data, reproducibility and replicability in science, and integration of statistics and data science with domain science.In this commentary, we revisit Sir Austin Bradford Hill's seminal Alfred Watson Memorial Lecture in 1962 through the eyes of two practicing biostatisticians of the current era. We summarize some eternal takeaway messages from Hill's lecture regarding observations and experiments translated through the modern lexicon of causal inference. Finally, we pose a series of questions that we would have liked to pose to Sir Austin Bradford Hill if he were to deliver the lecture in 2020.
Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is a broad-spectrum organophosphorus pesticide widely used to control tea geometrid (Ectropis oblique) and tea green leafhoppers (Empoasca pirisuga Matsumura) in tea trees. The major metabolite of CPF in water, plants, and animals is 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol, which is more toxic than CPF. However, the dissipation pattern of CPF in tea is unknown.
An optimized QuEChERS sample preparation method combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was applied to determine the residues of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite in tea during tea planting and green tea processing. During tea planting, the sum of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite dissipated rapidly with a half-life of 1.93 days for tea shoots. The residues of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite in made green tea were 96.89 and 35.88 μg kg

The transfer rates of chlorpyrifos and its metabolite from made green tea to its infusion were 0.68-4.62% and 62.93-71.79%, respectively.

We have conducted a brief review of the geographic differences in the prevalence of COVID-19, the updated pathological findings, prognostic factors, and treatments for disease prevention and improvement of prognosis. Although hydroxychloroquine and tocilizumab have been recommended by some researchers, many clinical trials have failed to confirm any beneficial effect of these and other drugs on COVID-19, in terms of improved clinical status or reduced patient mortality. Currently, glucocorticoid is the only drug that reduces the mortality of COVID-19 in a randomized controlled trial; however, it is still necessary to establish the optimal timing of administration. It is also urgent to set up an international or national cohort to address the risk factors associated with infection, the natural history of COVID-19, including the disease type, surrogate markers for critically ill, long-term sequelae, and reinfection after exposure, identify responders to glucocorticoid, and establish optimal treatment strategies for disease control.
As a Chinese traditional flavor condiment, Pixian Douban (PXDB) is produced using a traditional open fermentation process. In this study, an experimental fermentation of PXDB was conducted at 40 °C for 90 days in a closed system, which has not been applied to PXDB production. The flavor, microbial community and correlations of the samples in the closed system were compared with those in the traditional fermentation.
The content of organic acids and free amino acids in the closed fermentation of constant temperature (CFCT) achieved the standards of product quality, although they were lower than those in the traditional fermentation. Of the 140 detected aroma components, 98 were shared in the two fermentation processes. Enterobacter, Bacteroides and Megamonas were the core microbial genera related to 26 flavor components in the traditional fermentation, while Pantoea was the core microbial genus related to 18 flavor components in CFCT. The CFCT has its own unique advantages over traditional fermentation in forming aromas.
