5 cm from the base. CONCLUSIONS Blood perfusion in upper eyelid skin flaps decreases rapidly with distance from the base of the flap. Rotating and stretching the skin flap reduces blood perfusion even further, leading to minimal perfusion in this kind of flap at distances greater than 1.5 cm from the base.A 70-year-old woman with a history of Demodex blepharitis presented with a 1-year history of red-yellow nodules in the tarsus of her eyelids. Excisional biopsy revealed robust caseating granulomatous inflammation, consistent with the diagnosis of lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei. Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei is a rare granulomatous dermatosis of unknown etiology. Estimated 200 cases have been reported to date, but none have been reported affecting the posterior lamellae of the eyelids. Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei classically presents as symmetric yellow or brown papules on the central face and eyelid skin. Infectious etiologies and systemic granulomatous disease need to be ruled out with histologic staining and serologies.PURPOSE To report the characteristic clinical and imaging findings in a series of patients with thrombosed orbital venolymphatic malformations. METHODS Patients affected by acute thrombosis of an orbital venolymphatic malformation were reviewed. Clinical findings including symptoms and signs of presentation, characteristic imaging features, and clinical course are presented. RESULTS Ten patients were identified. selleck chemicals llc The mean age at presentation was 56 years. All patients presented with acute pain or pressure sensation, with the most common additional presenting symptoms being proptosis (6/10) and diplopia (5/10). CT imaging typically demonstrated a nonspecific orbital mass. Nine patients underwent MRI which revealed a soft tissue mass with peripheral rim enhancement and a central, typically T2 hypointense, core. Seven out of 10 patients were observed and had improvement in symptoms and signs without surgical intervention. Two patients underwent surgical intervention for intractable pain. CONCLUSION Patients with thrombosis of a venolymphatic malformation often present with acute pain, proptosis, and diplopia. Characteristic MRI findings of a peripheral rim enhancing mass with a T2 hypointense core can be noted. Careful observation is a reasonable management option for cases without visual compromise or intractable pain.Ophthalmia nodosa is an inflammatory reaction of ocular tissues in response to caterpillar setae. Setae are fibers produced by a number of insects and plants, and there are extensive reports of cases caused by caterpillars and spiders. These hairs are covered by microscopic barbs that facilitate their entry and migration into the ocular tissues resulting in severe inflammation. They are predominantly found buried in the conjunctiva and cornea. Rarely, they may penetrate through the cornea to enter the anterior chamber, lens, and posterior segment. Caterpillar hair in the meibomian gland orifice is a rare presentation and has not been reported previously.Tumor metastasis to the eyelids is very rare. The authors report the first case of a neuroendocrine tumor that originated from the ampulla of Vater in the gastrointestinal tract and metastasized to the eyelid. The patient with a hospice care was referred to the authors' eye clinic after presenting with a palpable mass on the left eyelid and blinking discomfort. He was previously diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor arising from the ampulla of Vater. The eyelid tumor was simply removed to relieve discomfort, and histological and immunophenotypic evaluation of the resected eyelid mass showed a poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumor with large cell types, similar to specimens from the duodenum.BACKGROUND Radium-223 was a treatment approved for patients with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer, symptomatic bone metastases and no-visceral metastases, in progression after at least two prior lines of systemic therapy, or ineligible for any available systemic treatment. The aim of this study was to provide further characterization and sub-selection of patients who would benefit most with Radium-223 treatment. METHODS We retrospectively analysed 38 patients treated with Radium-223 between 2015 and 2018. All patients underwent a baseline visit and a bone scintigraphy. Bone scan, ALP and PSA levels were repeated after third and after the end of therapy. All patients were re-evaluated after 2 months from the end of therapy. Survival curves were plotted according to the Kaplan-Meier method and differences between groups were analysed by using a two-tailed log-rank test. RESULTS The response to the treatment in term of change in pain was reduction in 16 patients; no change in 14 and increased in eight. We arbitrarily established a cut-off 10 bone lesions to evaluate the response patients with less than 10 metastasis had significant differences in PFS (P less then 0.001) compared to patients with more than 10, no statistical significance was found considering the OS (P = 0.23) between the two groups. The same results were founded in patients with baseline ALP less then 220 U/L with a PFS (P less then 0.001) and OS (P = 0.027). CONCLUSION The most important finding was the correlation between the number of bone metastasis and ALP with outcome survival and efficacy of Radium-223 treatment.STUDY DESIGN A retrospective study of 257 normal children at a single center from July 2016 to November 2018 was performed. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the spinopelvic parameters in a population of normal children and adolescents in mainland China. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Values for sagittal parameters of the spine vary significantly by ages and different population. No study has yet quantified the normal measures for children and adolescents in China, or how these measures compare to other populations. METHODS Pelvic incidence (PI), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT), thoracic kyphosis (TK, T5-T12), lumbar lordosis (LL, L1-S1) and sagittal vertical axis (SVA) were measured and evaluated by whole spine AP&lateral X-ray images. RESULTS A total of 257 subjects, including 116 boys (45%) and 141 girls (55%) aged 3-12 years, were enrolled. Correlation matrix analysis demonstrated that sagittal balance are strongly correlated with age and Risser sign, including PI, a reported fixed parameter. Further investigation showed that PI could be expressed by the equation PI = 26.
