Buy the French B Driving License Online
You should be aware of certain rules prior to driving on French roads if you're an international resident moving to France. You will need to exchange your driving license first.
The ANTS is responsible for all permits and licenses for foreigners issued in France. They can assist you with the process but it's not cheap.
Legality
The French driving license is a legal document issued by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion (Ministere de la transition ecologique and de la cohesion des territoires - METTC). The license covers every aspect of driving, from traffic laws to parking and speeding. The license is valid for three years and permits you to drive a vehicle that weighs up to 3,500 kilograms in weight. It also provides a variety of demerit points that are used to punish violators and reward good drivers.
You must take a driver's course and pass the theory test before you can receive your driver's license. The theory test is conducted on a computer and you must answer correctly all questions in order to pass. If you fail the exam then you must wait two days before you can take the test again. You can take the test multiple times as you want, but you need to have third-party insurance before you drive.
If you hold a French driving license and are a French citizen, you must wear a seatbelt at all time. Seatbelts are mandatory in the back of cars that have children who are less than 12 years old. You should also keep your identification documents with you and adhere to the rules for roadside assistance. Also, you should have a first-aid kit.
People who are moving to France from the United States can use their American license for up to a year. However, they must exchange it for a French one within that time. The only exception to this rule is if their license has been suspended or cancelled in the country of their origin.
The issuance of the French license requires proof of identity and the name of the applicant and their birth date and the nationality. It must be written in French or accompanied by an official translation. The applicant must also present a medical certificate or a document that acknowledges their impairment. The document must be signed and date by a physician prior to the beginning of their French residency. In addition, they must possess an official medical certificate from the Prefecture which states they are able to take the ETG exam without any restrictions.
Regulations
To legally drive in France, you must first pass the theory part of the driving test and then take an actual driving course with a professional driver. The test requires at least 20 hours of accompanied driving with a driver. When you're confident that you can drive and pass the test, you are allowed to take the test and receive your license. After passing the test, you will have three years of probationary license.
French driving licenses are hard plastic cards similar to credit cards. They include the holder's photograph name, birth date, address, signature, and driving licence number. The cards also show the type of vehicle a driver is allowed to operate. The new cards are upgraded with security features that stop counterfeiting. The card's outside edge is transparent, and the most important personal details are LASER engravings beneath the photo.
Currently, the permit B authorizes drivers to operate vehicles that weighs up to 3.5 tonnes with an maximum of nine seats. However, the EU recently approved a change to the weight limit for vehicles that permit B holder is allowed to drive. The maximum weight limit for certain vehicle categories, such as motorhomes and campervans will be raised to 4.25 tonnes.
