This paper deals with peer learning and, in particular, with the phenomena of exclusion; it proposes to model a group of learners where everyone has his own behaviour that expresses his way of following a curriculum. The focus is on individual motivations that avoid disadvantage certain individuals while optimising behaviour at the community level; in this context, the approach is based on the belief that the induced learning dynamics can be clarified by the contribution of agent-based modelling and its entry into the field of peer learning simulation. Flat learning means here that every learner features the same initial skill level, along with the same opportunities to learn both independently and with the help of peers. To address this topic the paper proposes the Flat Peer Learning agent-based computational model inspired by the Vygotsky's social and learning theory. The paper shows that even if strict equity could be guaranteed, educators would still be faced with the dilemma of having to choose between optimising the learning process for the group or preventing exclusion for some.In recent times, the Coronavirus disease (caused by COVID-19) is evidently observed to be the extremely contagious one with high fatality rate worldwide. In March 2020, the disease was declared a "global pandemic" by the World Health Organization (WHO). So far, there is no known/effective vaccine or medicine. In this paper, we propose and analyze an SEIR compartment model. We also compare and analyze the case study of India and Brazil. The model system is discussed by using MATLAB (2018a) software and the numerical results are verified graphically.
The residency program as a part of the clinical services itself has been influenced by the COVID-19 outbreak. Several reports have been published regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the residency programs; however, all studies were performed in developed countries or did not comprehensively analyze what residents think about the COVID-19 impact on their residency program. We investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the pediatric surgery residency program in our institution as an important part of hospital medical services.
We developed and distributed a questionnaire to pediatric surgery residents in our institution who were registered from January 2015-July 2020. The questionnaire was consisting of 24 questions a) the perspectives of residents about COVID-19 infection during their residency program; b) the learning process; c) academic evaluations; and d) residents' suggestions to improve the quality of their residency program during the outbreak.
Most (82.6%) pediatric surgery residents agr A comprehensive approach is needed to maintain the high standard of competence of pediatric surgery without compromising our safety from the COVID-19 infection risk.We are investigating plants from the prairie ecological zone of Canada to identify natural products that inhibit mitosis in cancer cells. Investigation of plant parts from the Canadian plant species Hymenoxys richardsonii (Asteraceae) revealed that leaf extracts (PP-360A) had anti-mitotic activity on human cancer cell lines. Cells treated with leaf extracts acquired a rounded morphology, similar to that of cells in mitosis. We demonstrated that the rounded cells contained mitotic spindles and phospho-histone H3 using the techniques of immunofluorescence microscopy. By biology-guided fractionation of H. richardsonii leaves, we isolated a sesquiterpene lactone named hymenoratin, which had not been previously assigned a biological activity. Cells treated with hymenoratin have phospho-histone H3 positive chromosomes, a mitotic spindle, and enter a prolonged mitotic arrest in which the spindles become distorted. By Western blot analysis, hymenoratin treated cells acquire high levels of cyclin B and dephosphorylated Cdk1. There is a growing body of evidence that select members of the sesquiterpene lactone chemical family have anti-mitotic activity.Globally, maize is one of the major cereal crops contributing 30% of food calories to about 4.6 billion people. The crop is considered staple in 125 developing countries where majority of producers are smallholder farmers. From 1960s to present, production and area for maize have increased but yield has remained questionable in most developing countries. Limited knowledge, poor linkages among service providers, climate change, land degradation, input costs are some of the challenges limiting maize production at world level. In Malawi maize production has always been associated with several challenges such as expensiveness of improved seed, climate change, unproductive soils and variations in variety preferences. Assessments on maize production has concentrated on short-term (1-5 years) and rarely consider farmer perceptions. Selleck EGFR inhibitor This has caused mixed reactions on the dynamics of maize production. In this study, maize production, area and yield dynamics were assessed based on production data from 2004/05-2018/19 ategies, sustainable practices, policies) in the maize subsector to enhance maize productivity.Mageu is a non-alcoholic fermented gruel processed from cereal grains, mostly maize and is widely consumed in the Southern African region. The refined maize meal used for mageu processing is limited in dietary fiber, B-vitamins, vitamin C, carotenoids, omega-3 fatty acids and minerals because of bran removal during milling. Fortification with plant carotenoid sources may be an effective method to supply potent antioxidants such as lycopene and beta-carotene that help preventing vitamin A deficiency related diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of three levels of watermelon pulp powder fortifications (5g, 10g, and 15g) on the physicochemical and sensory acceptability of maize mageu. Significant difference (p less then 0.05) was found for crude protein, ash, titratable acidity, and total carotenoid contents among the mageu samples. The percentage protein, ash, titratable acidity (TA), vitamin C (mg/100g) and total carotenoids (TC) (μg/g) contents for the mageu samples ranged between 10.
