The formation of inclusion complexes between triamterene (TT) and cyclodextrins (CDs) to increase the water apparent solubility of TT was investigated. UV data showed that the binding constant of the TT/sulfobutylether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD) inclusion complex was 510 L/mol. The phenyl ring of TT was inserted into the secondary hydroxy face of SBE-β-CD, as demonstrated by 1H-1H rotating frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy NMR. Physicochemical properties of solid TT/SBE-β-CD complexes prepared by physical mixing, kneading, freeze-drying, and mechanochemical methods were studied by X-ray diffraction and 13C cross-polarization and magic angle spinning NMR. With the mechanochemical method, the diffraction peak corresponding to TT disappeared, indicating the formation of an inclusion complex. The results of the dissolution test revealed that the solid complex obtained by the mechanochemical method improved the dissolution of TT. The water apparent solubility of TT can be improved by simple mechanical mixing without organic solvents, and improved bioavailability after oral administration is expected.
To estimate and compare the change in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) between an accelerometer and technology-supported physical activity (PA) log across a 3-week PA intervention.
Participants (
= 204, 77% female, age = 33 ± 11 years, body mass index = 28.2 ± 7.1 kg/m
) were randomized to one of two activity-related intervention arms (1) increase MVPA intervention or (2) decrease sedentary behavior active control. Participants wore an accelerometer while simultaneously completing a technology-based PA log every day for 5 weeks a 2-week baseline assessment phase and a 3-week intervention phase. Bivariate linear mixed-effects models and correlations were used to characterize the relationship of MVPA between measurement methods throughout the intervention. Effect sizes were calculated to determine the intervention effect by measurement method.
At baseline, PA log MVPA was 28 minutes greater than accelerometer-based minutes of MVPA in the active control group. This difference was 35 minutes (95% CI [23.7, 46.1]) greater at follow-up than at baseline measurement in the MVPA intervention group. In the active control group, there was a significant 16-minute (95% CI [6.0, 26.5]) increase between the two measures from baseline to follow-up. The intervention effect size based on the PA log was 0.27 (95% CI [0.14, 0.39]) and 0.42 (95% CI [0.28, 0.56]) when using the accelerometer.
Our results indicate that PA log MVPA and accelerometer MVPA estimate significantly different minutes per day of MVPA. It is important researchers use caution when comparing MVPA intervention outcomes from different measurement methods.

Cardiac transplantation is an effective treatment for advanced heart disease and protection of the donor organ is directly associated with post-transplantation outcomes. Cardioplegic strategies intend to protect the donor heart against ischemic injury during transplantation procedures. In our study, the effects of three different cardioplegia solutions were evaluated in a rat heart donor model in terms of cellular base.
Cardioplegia solutions as St. Thomas, del Nido or Custodiol were administered to male Wistar albino rats until cardiac arrest. Arrested hearts were excised and incubated in cold cardioplegia solutions for 4 h. Organ bath experiments were performed using the right ventricular free wall strips of the heart tissues. ATP, sialic acid, TNF-α levels and MMP-9 activities were measured in heart tissues. Incubation media were also used to measure TNF-α and troponin-I levels following organ baths experiments.
Custodiol administration led to reduced myocardial contraction (
< .05), decreaseden .05), TNF-α levels were positively correlated with MMP-9 activities (r = .93, p = .007) and negatively correlated with ATP levels (r = -.91, p = .01) in the Custodiol group. Also, MMP-9 activities were negatively correlated with ATP levels (r = -.90, p = .01) Conclusion. Custodiol cardioplegia cannot prevent functional and cellular damage in donor heart tissue. St. Thomas or del Nido cardioplegia could result in superior functional and biochemical improvement during transplantation procedures. In this respect, these cardioplegic solutions may be more advantageous as cellular and functional.Jump landing is a common situation leading to knee injuries involving the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in sports. Pyrvinium supplier Although neuromuscular control is considered as a key injury risk factor, there is a lack of knowledge regarding optimum control strategies that reduce ACL forces during jump landing. In the present study, a musculoskeletal model-based computational approach is presented that allows identifying neuromuscular control patterns that minimize ACL forces during jump landing. The approach is demonstrated for a jump landing maneuver in downhill skiing, which is one out of three main injury mechanisms in competitive skiing.
Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most common complication occurring after cardiac surgery. Guidelines for the management of this complication are scarce, often resulting in differences in treatment strategy use among patients.
To evaluate the management of POAF in a cardiac surgery department, characterize the extent of its variability, and develop a standardized protocol.
This was an observational retrospective study with data from patients who underwent cardiac surgeries with subsequent POAF between January 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018. We assessed the difference in the proportions of patients whose first POAF episodes were treated with a rate control (RaC) strategy, a rhythm control (RhC) strategy, and both among different hospital units. We also assessed the mean duration of POAF episodes, POAF recurrences, and the management of anticoagulation.
Data from 97 patients were included in this study. The POAF management strategy differed significantly among the 3 types of hospital units (
