Pandemic-related elements predicting medical professional burnout past set up firm elements: cross-sectional results from your Problem management review.
Ocean warming related to climate change has been proposed to cause the dissociation of gas hydrate deposits and methane leakage on the seafloor. This process occurs in places where the edge of the gas hydrate stability zone in sediments meets the overlying warmer oceans in upper slope settings. Here we present new evidence based on the analysis of a large multi-disciplinary and multi-scale dataset from such a location in the western South Atlantic, which records massive gas release to the ocean. The results provide a unique opportunity to examine ocean-hydrate interactions over millennial and decadal scales, and the first evidence from the southern hemisphere for the effects of contemporary ocean warming on gas hydrate stability. Widespread hydrate dissociation results in a highly focused advective methane flux that is not fully accessible to anaerobic oxidation, challenging the assumption that it is mostly consumed by sulfate reduction before reaching the seafloor.Several recent studies suggest that placebos administered without deception (i.e., non-deceptive placebos) can help people manage a variety of highly distressing clinical disorders and nonclinical impairments. However, whether non-deceptive placebos represent genuine psychobiological effects is unknown. Here we address this issue by demonstrating across two experiments that during a highly arousing negative picture viewing task, non-deceptive placebos reduce both a self-report and neural measure of emotional distress, the late positive potential. These results show that non-deceptive placebo effects are not merely a product of response bias. Additionally, they provide insight into the neural time course of non-deceptive placebo effects on emotional distress and the psychological mechanisms that explain how they function.A deterministic source of coherent single photons is an enabling device for quantum information processing. Quantum dots in nanophotonic structures have been employed as excellent sources of single photons with the promise of scaling up towards multiple photons and emitters. It remains a challenge to implement deterministic resonant optical excitation of the quantum dot required for generating coherent single photons, since residual light from the excitation laser should be suppressed without compromising source efficiency and scalability. Here, we present a planar nanophotonic circuit that enables deterministic pulsed resonant excitation of quantum dots using two orthogonal waveguide modes for separating the laser and the emitted photons. We report a coherent and stable single-photon source that simultaneously achieves high-purity (g(2)(0) = 0.020 ± 0.005), high-indistinguishability (V = 96 ± 2%), and >80% coupling efficiency into the waveguide. Such 'plug-and-play' single-photon source can be integrated with on-chip optical networks implementing photonic quantum processors.Maternal body mass index and gestational weight gain predict future obesity status of the offspring. In studies of both rodents and non-human primates, maternal obesity also predicts a preference for palatable foods in the offspring. In this study, we used C57BL/6J mice to investigate whether an underlying cause for an increase in palatable food consumption in the offspring of obese mice was a change in taste function. Adult female mice were fed a normal chow (NC) or a high fat diet (HFD) for 5 weeks before mating, then also during the gestation (3 weeks) and lactation (3 weeks) periods, with offspring always maintained on a normal chow diet; thus the only experience offspring had with high fat food was via maternal exposure. Offspring exhibited similar weight, blood glucose levels and baseline water and chow intake in adulthood. Taste response was assessed after reaching maturity, using brief-access taste testing, with female offspring of obese dams showing an enhanced response to sucrose, and both sexes consuming more sucrose, sucralose and high fat diet if from obese mothers. Offspring also exhibited increased taste bud expression of mRNA for sweet receptor subunits T1R (Taste receptor type) 2 and 3, as well as other markers associated with taste signaling. Taste morphology in both groups appeared similar. learn more Results indicate that obesity in the mother may lead to unhealthy feeding behavior in the offspring, correlating with altered expression of taste signaling elements, which likely drive increased avidity for palatable foods.
We report two cases of fracture-dislocation of the thoracolumbar spine without neurological deficit and outline the putative mechanisms responsible for the escape of neural tissues from injurious forces and the surgical management strategies for this type of injury. We also review similar cases described in the literature.

A 24-year-old female with post-traumatic fracture dislocation at the T10-T11 level without neurological deficit, along with a right femoral shaft fracture, was managed with laminectomy of T10-T11 levels with bilateral facetectomy and transpedicular screws and with an intramedullary interlocking nail for the femur fracture. Another 26-year-old female (post-traumatic fracture dislocation at the T12 - L1 level treated by open reduction and pedicle screw instrumentation elsewhere) presented with implant failure and re-dislocation which was managed with laminectomy of T12- L1 levels, facetectomy and discectomy, and deformity correction, followed by 9 mm × 25 mm bullet cage insertion and fixa the vertebral arch, in which pedicle fractures allow the posterior elements to remain nearly aligned, with preservation of the spinal canal integrity and maintenance of normal spinal cord function. These fracture-dislocations need to be managed carefully to achieve a good outcome.Current thermochemical methods to generate H2 include gasification and steam reforming of coal and natural gas, in which anthropogenic CO2 emission is inevitable. If biomass is used as a source of H2, the process can be considered carbon-neutral. Seaweeds are among the less studied types of biomass with great potential because they do not require freshwater. Unfortunately, reaction pathways to thermochemically convert salty and wet biomass into H2 are limited. In this study, a catalytic alkaline thermal treatment of brown seaweed is investigated to produce high purity H2 with substantially suppressed CO2 formation making the overall biomass conversion not only carbon-neutral but also potentially carbon-negative. High-purity 69.69 mmol-H2/(dry-ash-free)g-brown seaweed is produced with a conversion as high as 71%. The hydroxide is involved in both H2 production and in situ CO2 capture, while the Ni/ZrO2 catalyst enhanced the secondary H2 formation via steam methane reforming and water-gas shift reactions.
