The values for intra- and inter-day precisions were ranged from 1.3 to 7.3. This method was successfully applied to quantify the concentrations of HCQ and its two metabolites in blood of 92 SLE patients.Despite paraesophageal hernias (PEH) being a common disorder, several aspects of their management remain elusive. Elective surgery in asymptomatic patients, management of acute presentation, and other technical aspects such as utilization of mesh, fundoplication or gastropexy are some of the debated issues. The aim of this study was to review the available evidence in an attempt to clarify current controversial topics. PEH repair in an asymptomatic patient may be reasonable in selected patients to avoid potential morbidity of an emergent operation. In acute presentation, gastric decompression and resuscitation could allow to improve the patient's condition and refer the repair to a more experienced surgical team. When surgical repair is decided, laparoscopy is the optimal approach in most of the cases. Mesh should be used in selected patients such as those with large PEH or redo operations. While a fundoplication is recommended in the majority of patients to prevent postoperative reflux, a gastropexy can be used in selected cases to facilitate postoperative care. Background After the first case of infection with the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, in China, an outbreak rapidly spread, finally evolving into a global pandemic. The new disease was named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and by May 10, 2020, it has affected more than 4 million people worldwide and caused more than 270,000 deaths. Methods We describe the Greek experience regarding the response to COVID-19, with particular focus on 2 COVID-19 reference hospitals in the metropolitan area of Athens, the capital of Greece. Results The first case of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Greece was reported on February 26, 2020, and prompted a decisive response from the Greek government. The primary focus was containment of virus spread, considering shortage of ICU beds. A general lockdown was implemented early on, and the national Health Care System underwent massive re-structuring. Our 2 gastrointestinal (GI) centers, which provide care for more than 1500 inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, are located in hospitals that were transformed to COVID-19 reference centers. To maintain sufficient care for our patients, while also contributing to the fight against COVID-19, we undertook specific measures. These included provision of telemedicine services, electronic prescriptions and home delivery of medications, isolation of infusion units and IBD clinics in COVID-free zones of the hospitals, in addition to limiting endoscopies to emergencies only. Such practices allowed us to avoid interruption of appropriate therapies for IBD patients. In fact, within the SECURE-IBD database, there have been only 4 Greek IBD patients, to date, who have been reported as positive for SARS-CoV-2. Conclusion Timely application of preventive measures and strict compliance to guidelines limited the spread of COVID-19 in Greece and minimally impacted our IBD community, without interfering with therapeutic management.Osteogenesis plays a vital role in the maintenance of bone health. Imbalances in osteogenesis influence the onset of several bone loss-associated diseases. The intake of Uraria crinita (Fabaceae) through dietary supplements is advised for childhood bone dysplasia. This botanical provides edible tonics and detoxifiers, and is also used as a folk beverage. We evaluated the osteogenic effects of a 50% ethanol extract of the root of U. crinita on primary human osteoblasts (HObs) and initiated a novel comprehensive phytochemical strategy using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for quality control of this functional food. Two isoflavones, genistein (5) and 5,7-dihydroxy-3',5'-dihydroxyisoflavone (6), increased the alkaline phosphatase activity (differentiation stage); the flavone glycoside vitexin (1), and the phenolic acid salicylic acid (2) enhanced the mineralization (mature stage). The isoflavone 2'-hydroxygenistein (4) possessed high osteogenic potential among the isolated compounds in HObs. It promoted osteogenesis-related stages and upregulated the gene expressions in a dose-dependent manner. The major compounds in the active fraction were quantitatively analyzed via phytochemical fingerprint detection. These LC-MS/MS-based phytochemical perspectives can act as reference standards in developing food supplements from U. crinita.A fluoride stabilized sulfur-substituted uranyl complex [U(O)(S)F2] was prepared for the first time via oxidation of U(0) by SOF2 in cryogenic matrixes. The electron withdrawing character of F in this neutral complex does not cause the oxidation of the sulfido ligand by U(vi), but increases the strength and covalency of the U-O and U-S bonds.Amorphous silicon (a-Si) is a type of common surface damages during the ultra-precision machining of monocrystalline Si. However, it is difficult to identify the amorphous damage of several nanometers by traditional detection methods, which severely hinders the performance improvement of Si-based products. selleck products In this study, ultrathin a-Si was found to act as a mask against etching in HF/HNO3 mixtures, resulting in the formation of protrusive hillocks. Reciprocating sliding on an atomic force microscope (AFM) was employed to simulate a material removal event in surface manufacturing. The effects of normal load, etching time and etchant concentration on selective etching were investigated to optimize the parameters for amorphous damage detection. The mechanisms for selective etching were further addressed based on high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) detection and comparative etching of different surface structures. Further analysis demonstrated that a lower dangling bond density of a-Si could result in the reduction of the dissolution rate, while deformed Si lattices, including stacking faults, dislocations and microcracks, could facilitate rapid selective etching. By the proposed selective etching, ultrathin amorphous damage and its spatial distributions can be rapidly identified with high resolution and low destruction. This study sheds new light on achieving a high-quality Si surface in ultra-precision machining.
