The intraoperative administration of dexmedetomidine was dose-dependently associated with a prolonged PACU length of stay. Clinicians should judiciously titrate dexmedetomidine, especially when using this long-acting drug for monitored anesthesia care for shorter procedures.Identifying the microbial community and their functional potential from different stages of common effluent treatment plants (CETP) can enhance the efficiency of wastewater treatment systems. In this study, wastewater metagenomes from 8 stages of CETP were screened for microbial diversity and gene profiling along with their corresponding degradation activities. The microbial community displayed 98.46% of bacterial species, followed by Eukarya (0.10%) and Archaea 0.02%. At the Phylum level, Proteobacteria (28.8%) was dominant, followed by Bacteroidetes (16.1%), Firmicutes (11.7%), and Fusobacteria (6.9%) which are mainly capable of degrading the aromatic compounds. Klebsiella pneumoniae, Wolinella succinogenes, Pseudomonas stutzeri, Desulfovibrio vulgaris, and Clostridium sticklandii were the most prevalent species. The functional analysis further demonstrated the presence of enzymes linked with genes/pathways known to be involved in the degradation/metabolization of aromatic compounds like benzoate, bisphenol, 1,2-dichloroethane phenylalanine. This information was further validated with the whole genome analysis of the bacteria isolated from the CETP. We anticipate that integrating both shotgun and whole-genome analyses can reveal the rich reservoir for novel enzymes and genes present in CETP effluent that can contribute to designing efficient bioremediation strategies for the environment in general CETP system, in particular.Fire is an important ecological disturbance, but anthropogenic wildfires increasingly threaten native ecosystems and human lives. In fire-prone ecosystems, zero-fire policies have been replaced by active fire management to reduce the risk of wildfires and improve ecological outcomes. The environmental drivers of fire behavior are widely known, but climate change and deforestation are changing their roles, making fires less predictable. We did this research in collaboration with PA managers during the initial implementation of a pilot Integrated Fire Management (IFM) program in the Brazilian savanna. Nevertheless, research is limited on the influence of GSs onto innovation performance of China's EEPI, with particular to the effect of GSs from enterprise level. This study investigated 62 listed energy conservation and environmental protection enterprises (EEPEs) in China's market in 2013-2018. The innovation performance of these enterprises was quantitatively evaluated, and multivariate regression models were devised to examine GSs and other potential drivers that might influence the innovation. Key findings include (1) EEPEs' investment in R&D and protection of intellectual properties played a positive intermediary and regulatory role between GSs and enterprise innovation performance (correlation at the significance level of 0.05 (p = 0.045; p = 0.036)). (2) There is a significant positive correlation at the significance level of 0.05 (p = 0.011), which indicates that the strongest positive relation between GSs and innovation performance was identified in an environment of low external regulation and high internal regulation, and the effects were more significant for non-state-owned EEPEs(correlation at the significance level of 0.05 (p = 0.018)). (3) The promotion of GSs to innovation was found less effective in the three most developed regions in China, i.e., the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area. Nonetheless it was more effective for enterprise engaged in the circular economy and resource recycling (correlation at a significant level of 0.05 (P = 0.048)). These findings may shed lights on decision making of green technology development for environmental conservation and circular economy.This study quantifies the degree of pollution and assess the ecological risk of As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, V and Zn in sediments and soils of the Limoncocha Biological Reserve (Ecuador), identified as a Ramsar site with high ecological and socioeconomic value. The hydrologic system of the Reserve is mainly formed by two rivers that drain into the Limoncocha lagoon, which occupies only five percent of the protected area but support a high anthropic influence. Local statistical baseline of studied potentially toxic elements is established using cumulative frequency method, and Al is selected as reference element due to the good correlation with the studied elements. The grade of pollution and the potential ecological risk are evaluated applying three individual (Contamination Factor, Geo-accumulation Index and Enrichment Factor) and six integrated (Degree and modified degree of contamination, Pollution Load Index, Nemerow and modified Nemerow pollution indexes and potential ecological risk index) indicof a mean quotient based on soil quality and soil potential uses is proposed. Soil sites with high anthropogenic activities show low to moderate potential ecological risk being classified as poor soil quality sites but with all potential soil uses allowed according to the legal limits for land uses in Ecuador.
