The distribution of water isotopes at natural abundance among woody tissues indicated systematic differences with highest values of sapwood water and lower values in inner bark and heartwood. Patient compliance during orthodontic treatment is one of the factors that most affects success in the final result. The use of removable appliances is frequent at an early age and the monitoring of its use is essential to assess the collaboration of the patient. The aim of this study was to establish the effectiveness of microsensors included in removable appliances during orthodontic treatment or in the retention phase to enable a reliable and individualized follow-up of the patient.

The article search was carried out in various electronic databases and journals without any language restrictions.

Studies using microsensors into removable appliances were selected with the key selection criterion of a minimum follow-up of 4 weeks.

The quality of the studies included was evaluated using the Cochrane scale for the randomized controlled trials and the Newcastle Ottawa Scale for control-case, cohort, and transversal studies. The mean of the differences with a 95% confidence interval was expressed for the continuous data.

Twenty-nine full-text articles were analysed and included in the qualitative synthesis. In general, the mean daily wear time of removable appliances measured objectively was less than the time that the professional had predetermined.

The use of microsensors as an objective measurement method enhances communication and boosts confidence in the orthodontist-patient relationship. More random clinical studies with temperature sensors are needed to establish to what extent they influence the orthodontic outcome.

Successful 2-drug regimens (2DRs) for HIV were made possible by the availability of drugs combining potency and tolerability with a high genetic barrier to resistance. How these deal with resistance development/re-emergence, compared with 3DRs, is thus of paramount importance.

A national survey including patients who were either naive or experienced with any 2DR or 3DR but failing integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-containing regimens [two consecutive plasma viral load (VL) values >50 copies/mL] was conducted between 2014 and 2019. Genotypic resistance tests were interpreted with the v28 ANRS algorithm.

Overall, 1104 patients failing any INSTI-containing regimen (2DRs, n = 207; 3DRs, n = 897) were analysed. Five hundred and seventy-seven (52.3%) patients were infected with a B subtype and 527 (47.3%) with non-B subtypes. Overall, 644 (58%) patients showed no known integrase resistance mutations at failure. In multivariate analysis, factors associated with the emergence of at least one integrion in clinical management. Lineage hierarchies in disparate tissues often exhibit common features, yet the general principles regulating their architecture are not known. Here, we provide a formal framework for understanding the relationship between cell molecular 'states' and cell 'types', based on the topology of admissible cell state trajectories. We show that a self-renewing cell type - if defined as suggested by this framework - must reside at the top of any homeostatic renewing lineage hierarchy, and only there. This architecture arises as a natural consequence of homeostasis, and indeed is the only possible way that lineage architectures can be constructed to support homeostasis in renewing tissues. Furthermore, under suitable feedback regulation, for example from the stem cell niche, we show that the property of 'stemness' is entirely determined by the cell environment, in accordance with the notion that stem cell identities are contextual and not determined by hard-wired, cell-intrinsic characteristics.
