On the other hand, the HBsAg alone was able to inhibit the production of IFN-γ, suggesting that this antigen may hinder the treatment exclusively with PEG-IFN.Soil salinity severely limits agricultural crop production worldwide. As one of the biggest plant specific transcription factor families, AP2/ERF members have been extensively studied to regulate plant growth, development and stress responses. However, the role of AP2/ERF family in maize salt tolerance remains largely unknown. In this study, we identified a maize AP2-ERF family member ZmEREB20 as a positive salinity responsive gene. Overexpression of ZmEREB20in Arabidopsis enhanced ABA sensitivity and resulted in delayed seed germination under salt stress through regulating ABA and GA related genes. ZmEREB20 overexpression lines also showed higher survival rates with elevated ROS scavenging toward high salinity. Furthermore, root hair growth inhibition by salt stress was markedly rescued in ZmEREB20 overexpression lines. Auxin transport inhibitor TIBA drastically enhanced root hair growth in ZmEREB20 overexpression Arabidopsis under salt stress, together with the increased expression of auxin-related genes, ion transporter genes and root hair growth genes by RNA-seq analysis. ZmEREB20 positively regulated salt tolerance through the molecular mechanism associated with hormone signaling, ROS scavenging and root hair plasticity, proving the potential target for crop breeding to improve salt resistance. The treatment of hospital wastewater is very complex, so treating polluted human urine is a significant challenge. Here, we tested a novel MMO-Ti/RuO2IrO2 electrode to reduce the ecotoxicity risk of hospital urines contaminated with antibiotics. This electrode was used as the anode in electro-Fenton (EF) and photoelectro-Fenton (PhEF) processes. The results were compared with those obtained using the boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode, as well as those obtained by a conventional Fenton oxidation. find more In order to analyze the performance of the processes, the treatments were evaluated on the subject of Penicilin G (PenG) removal, toxicity (using a standardized method with Vibrio Fisheri), and antibiotic activity (Enterococcus faecalis as the target bacterium). The results reveal that PenG degrades in the following order Fenton less then EF less then PhEF. The best results are found for the MMO-PhEF, which completely removed PenG, decreased 96% of toxicity, and completely removed antibiotic activity. Besides, for comparison, tests were performed with BDD, and results point out the higher convenience of the new electrode in terms of acceptable use of energy because the effluents generated can be further degraded in an urban wastewater treatment plant. Because of that, MMO-RuO2-IrO2 emerges as a promising cost-effective material for the pre-treatment of hospital urine effluents. The honeybee Apis mellifera is an important pollinator that, similarly to other bees, undergoes colony losses due to several problems, including the use of pesticides in the agriculture. In addition to direct mortality, pesticides cause side-effects in some non-target organs, such as the midgut, which is the main organ for digestion and absorption. Spiromesifen is a pesticide used to control mites and whiteflies, which can be ingested by bees feeding on contaminated floral resources. This study evaluated the histopathological and cytological effects of the ingestion of spiromesifen on the midgut of A. mellifera workers. The bees were exposed per os to the field recommended dose of spiromesifen, and the midgut was analyzed after 24h and 48h of exposure to the pesticide. The midgut has a single layer of digestive cells, with spherical nucleus, nests of regenerative cells and layers of peritrophic matrix in the lumen. Bees treated with spiromesifen presented histological and cytological changes in the midgut, including disorganization of the epithelial architecture, release of cell fragments to the lumen, accumulation of mitochondria in the apical cytoplasm, alteration of the basal labyrinth, changes in the rough endoplasmic reticulum and cell degeneration. The occurrence of damage in the digestive cells of the A. mellifera midgut indicates that spiromesifen does not cause mortality in honeybees, but its side-effects can damage the midgut, which may affect the longevity and behavior of this pollinator.Adoptive cell transfer of targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells has emerged as a highly promising cancer therapy. The pharmacodynamic action or CAR T cells is closely related to their pharmacokinetic profile; because of this as well as the risk of non-specific action, it is important to monitor their biodistribution and fate following infusion. To this end, we developed a dual-modal PET/near infrared fluorescent (NIRF) nanoparticle-based imaging agent for non-genomic labeling of human CAR T cells. Since the PET/NIRF nanoparticles did not affect cell viability or cytotoxic functionality and enabled long-term whole-body CAR T cell tracking using PET and NIRF in an ovarian peritoneal carcinomatosis model, this platform is a viable imaging technology to be applied in other cancer models.Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is the recommended treatment for ACL tear in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) guideline. However, not a small number of cases failed because of the tunnel bone resorption, unsatisfactory bone-tendon integration, and graft degeneration. The biomaterials developed and designed for improving ACL reconstruction have been investigated for decades. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regulations, animal studies should be performed to prove the safety and bioeffect of materials before clinical trials. In this review, we first evaluated available biomaterials that can enhance the healing outcome after ACL reconstruction in animals and then discussed the animal models and assessments for testing applied materials. Furthermore, we identified the relevance and knowledge gaps between animal experimental studies and clinical expectations. Critical analyses and suggestions for future research were also provided to design the animal study connecting basic research and requirements for future clinical translation.
