This work provides evidence on how the QS hierarchy can change from being strictly LasR-dependent to a LasR-independent RhlR-based hierarchy under phosphate limitation even in the PAO1 type strain.IMPORTANCEPseudomonas aeruginosa is an important pathogen considered a priority for the development of new therapeutic strategies. An important approach to fight its infections relies on blocking quorum sensing. The Las system is the main regulator of the quorum sensing response, so many research efforts aim to block this system in order to suppress the entire response. In this work we show that LasR is dispensable in a phosphate-limited environment in the PAO1 type strain, which has been used to define of the quorum-sensing response hierarchy, and that in this condition RhlR is at the top of the regulation hierarchy. These results are highly significant since phosphate-limitation represents a similar environment to the one that P. aeruginosa faces when establishing infections.
A gender gap in faculty rank at academic institutions exists; however, data among graduate medical education (GME) programmes are limited. There is a need to assess gender disparities in GME leadership, as a lack of female leadership may affect recruitment, role modelling and mentorship of female trainees. This cross-sectional study aimed to describe the current state of gender in programme leadership (department chair, programme director (PD), associate/assistant PD (APD) and clerkship director (CD)) at accredited Emergency Medicine (EM) programmes in the USA to determine whether a gender gap exists.
A survey was distributed to EM residency programmes in the USA assessing demographics and gender distribution among programme leadership. If no response was received, information was collected via the programme's website. Data were organised by position, region and length of the programme. We obtained data on the number of female EM physicians in practice and in training/fellowship in 2017 from the Associatis and strategies to increase gender equality in leadership roles.

They were obtained by one-pot three component [3 + 2] cycloaddition of stabilized azomethine ylides, generated in situ by condensation of glycine methyl ester and the cyclic ketones 1H-indole-2,3-dione (isatin), with (Z)-5-arylidine-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-ones. The highlight of this protocol is the efficient high-yield construction of structurally diverse rhodanine-fused spiro[pyrrolidine-2,3'-oxindoles] scaffolds, including four contiguous stereocenters, along with excellent regio- and diastereoselectivities. The stereochemistry of all compounds was confirmed by NMR and corroborated by an X-ray diffraction study performed on one derivative. All cycloadducts were evaluated in vitro for their α-amylase inhibitory activity and showed good α-amylase inhibition with IC50 values ranging between 1.49 ± 0.10 and 3.06 ± 0.17 µM, with respect to the control drug acarbose (IC50 = 1.56 µM). Structural activity relationships (SARs) were also established for all synthesized compounds and the binding interactions of the most active spiropyrrolidine derivatives were modelledby means of molecular insilico docking studies. The most potent compounds 5 g, 5 k, 5 s and 5 l were further screened in vivo for their hypoglycemic activity in alloxan-induced diabetic rats, showing a reduction of the blood glucose level. Therefore, these spiropyrrolidine derivatives may be considered as promising candidates for the development of new classes of antidiabetic drugs.This article mainly researches the problem of distributed finite-time coordinated path-following for under-actuated autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) within a network swarm. Each vehicle in swarm system suffers from velocity restrictions and multiple uncertainties including parameter perturbations and time-varying environment disturbances. Based on the constructed bionic swarm pattern and potential function, the swarm velocity guidance (SVG) with self-organization and collision avoidance is developed to guide ASV surge velocities and heading angles simultaneously. A distributed observer by adding correction terms to the vehicle model is involved to identify the lumped uncertainties, and the estimations are utilized as feed-forward compensation to weaken the uncertainty impact, thus achieving high tracking precision. By using asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function, the uncertainty observer based distributed surge and heading kinetics controllers under physical restrictions are devised to guarantee that the guided signals generated by SVG are tracked within finite time.
