An outbreak in Serbia during 1992-1995 and 5 rhinosporidiosis cases from Turkey have been reported until date. Considering that rhinosporidiosis is associated with exposure to water and the agent belongs to a branch of aquatic parasites, it has been proposed that aquatic animals are the natural hosts and that the mammalian hosts acquire infection by contacting contaminated water. Therefore, there is a need for the investigation of the infection in fish besides mammalian animals as reservoirs as well as to conduct screening of antiparasitic drugs with infected fish or infected cell lines with the nearest phylogenetic relatives of R. seeberi.
Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) represent a common pharmacological approach for endometriosis. They have been demonstrated to mitigate painful symptoms in patients and are considered the first line therapy for symptomatic disease. The goal of this study was to evaluate whether the presence of pelvic endometriotic lesions can exert a systemic effect on PBMC gene expression and to investigate whether hormonal treatment may restore a normal gene expression profile.
Forty women, with endometriosis at stage III-IV, were enrolled in the study. After surgery, 20, randomly chosen, were treated with COC for six months and 20 did not receive hormonal therapy. Blood samples were obtained few days before surgery and six months after surgery. Gene expression profile of PBMC was studied by microarray. Gene expression levels before surgery and post-surgery, in presence and absence of COC, were compared.
Nine genes previously reported to be overexpressed by endometriosis, were confirmed to be significantly downregulated after surgery. COC treatment lead to a greater down-regulation of these genes and to a significant down-regulation of 3 additional genes. 145 genes resulted downregulated and 28 upregulated by comparing gene expression before surgery with that 6 months after surgery in the presence of COC therapy.
Results support the concept that a systemic chronic inflammatory status is among the mechanisms underlying endometriosis. Moreover, they shed light into the mechanisms of action of COCs and strength the rationale for their use to improve quality of life of women affected by the disease.

Postoperative hypoparathyroidism (PO-HypoPT) is a complication usually seen after thyroid surgery. PO-HypoPT, which lasts longer than 6 months is defined permanently. Deucravacitinib concentration The aim of this study is to evaluate how close permanent POHypoPT patients can approach target values.
107 patients who were followed up with permanent diagnosis of PO-HypoPT between 2016-2020 were included in the study. The study protocol includes serum albumin corrected total calcium (Alb-sCa), phosphate (P), Ca-P product, and 24 h urine calcium measurements. Laboratory measurements of the patients include the values recorded in 4-year visits and in the last visit. In addition, radiological reports of renal/abdominal ultrasound and cranial tomography examinations performed in our hospital for any reason during this period were also reviewed.
When looking at the total measurements in the 4-year period; the Alb-sCa level was below the target in most of the measurements (68.1%). P level was higher than normal in 296 (46.2%) measurements. 24 h urine ca excretion was measured 185 times in total visits, and 81 (43.7%) of these measurements showed hypercalciuric values. The patient's latest visit measurements were evaluated on 4 targets (Alb-sCa, P, Ca-P product and 24 h urine Ca excretion). The number of patients meeting all four targets was only 21 (19.6%). 6 (7.5%) patients had kidney stones or nephrocalcinosis. 3 (0.09%) patients with imaging had calcification in the basal ganglia.
Our study shows that the management of the patients with PO-HypoPT is suboptimal with active vitamin D and cholecalciferol treatment.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in diabetes patients who were on routine dialysis.
Literature search was conducted in electronic databases and studies were selected by following precise eligibility criteria. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed to estimate a) correlations of CGM with other indicators including glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), glycated albumin and mean amplitude of glucose excursions (MAGE), and b) mean differences (MDs) in CGM and MAGE values between dialysis and off-dialysis days or during vs before dialysis.
There was a good correlation between CGM and self-monitoring of blood glucose values (r=0.837 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.67, 0.92]. Correlation coefficient between CGM and HbA1c was 0.523 [95% CI 0.422, 604] in diabetes patients on dialysis and 0.592 [95% CI 0.354, 0.757] in diabetes patients without renal failure. Correlation coefficient between CGM and glycated albumin in diabetes patients on dialysis was 0.544 [95% CI 0.254, 0.744]. Average CGM and MAGE values on dialysis day were not significantly different from those of offdialysis day in diabetes patients (MDs -0.40 millimole/liter (mmol/L) [95% CI -1.06, 0.26]; p=0.23) and MAGE 0.50 mmol/L [95% CI -0.01, 1.00]; p=0.05, respectively). Compared to predialysis values, average CGM and MAGE values were significantly lower during dialysis in diabetes patients (MDs -2.11 mmol/L [95% CI -3.25, -0.97]; p=0.0003 and MAGE -2.24 mmol/L [95% CI -3.99, -0.50]; p=0.01, respectively).
CGM is an efficient method of glycemic monitoring in diabetes patients on dialysis. CGM had similar correlations with HbA1c and glycated albumin.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has a higher prevalence worldwide, and its pathogenesis is not clear. Genetic factors, dyslipidaemia and dysglycaemia have been proven to be associated with NAFLD. It has not been reported whether the triglyceride glucose index (TyG), which is estimated by triglyceride and fasting glucose, has a relationship with NAFLD in people from North China. Whether the CDKAL1 gene rs10946398 SNP, which has been found to be associated with BMI, has a relationship with TyG and NAFLD is not clear.
We recruited a total of 1,760 subjects in this study, and we measured the clinical characteristics, abdominal ultrasound, and genotype of those participants.
The results showed that 527 (29.9%) subjects suffered from NAFLD, the TyG index was associated with NAFLD (OR=5.456, 95% CI (3.526~8.442)), and the CDKAL1 gene rs10946398 SNP has a relationship with NAFLD (OR=1.509, 95% CI (1.046~2.178)). The distribution of the C allele of rs10946398 was statistically significant at different levels of the TyG index.
