The results showed that LncHOXA10 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cells, whereas apoptosis was markedly inhibited. Subsequently, mechanistic investigations revealed that LncHOXA10 can repress RAR-β expression and that all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) can rescue the expression of RAR-β. Finally, we showed that ATRA can reverse the pro-cancerous function of LncHOXA10. We showed that LncHOXA10 may be a prognostic and therapeutic factor of gastric cancer by negatively regulating RAR-β. Half of the pups in each group received AMPK activator, metformin, or saline intraperitoneally from P1 to P10. Lung histology, morphometric analysis, immunofluorescence, and immunoblots were done for changes in lung structure at P10 and P21 and AMPK function at P4, P10, and P21. Phosphorylation of AMPK (p-AMPK) was decreased in lungs at P10 and P21 in hyperoxia-exposed pups. Metformin increased the levels of p-AMPK and PGC-1α, a downstream AMPK target which regulates mitochondrial biogenesis, at P4, P10, and P21 in hyperoxia pups. Lung ATP levels decreased during hyperoxia and were increased by metformin at P10 and P21. Radial alveolar count and alveolar septal tips were decreased and mean linear intercept increased in hyperoxia-exposed pups at P10 and the changes persisted at P21; these were improved by metformin. Lung capillary number was decreased in hyperoxia-exposed pups at P10 and P21 and was restored by metformin. Hyperoxia leads to impaired AMPK function, energy balance and alveolar simplification. The AMPK activator, metformin improves AMPK function and alveolar and vascular growth in this rat pup model of hyperoxia-induced lung injury.Photoageing and skin cancer are major causes of morbidity and are a high cost to society. Interest in the development of photoprotective agents for inclusion in topical cosmetic and sunscreen products is profound. Recently, amino acids with a sulfinic group, notably hypotaurine, have been included as ingredients in cosmetic preparations. However, the mechanism of action of hypotaurine as a possible anti-aging agent is unknown, despite its use as a free radical scavenger. To address this issue, we investigated hypotaurine uptake in a human keratinocyte model and examined its effect on UVR-induced cytotoxicity. STZ inhibitor clinical trial Hypotaurine was taken up by keratinocytes in a time- and concentration-dependent manner, with levels remaining significantly above baseline 48 h after washout. A cytoprotective effect of pre-incubation with 2.5-5 mMhypotaurine was shown as indicated by increased cell viability when keratinocytes were irradiated with UVA at 5 or 10 Jcm-2 , with the level of hypotaurine also significantly reduced. These findings indicate a potential cytoprotective effect of hypotaurine against the deleterious effects of UVA irradiation. This provides support for further studies to evaluate the potential photoprotective benefits of hypotaurine supplementation of topical cosmetic and sunscreen products.Trafimow (2017) used probabilistic reasoning to argue that more complex causal models are less likely to be true than simpler ones, and that researchers should be skeptical of causal models involving more than a handful of variables (or even a single correlation coefficient) [Trafimow, D. In this comment, I point out that Trafimow's argument is misleading, and reduces to the observation that more informative models (that make definite statements about certain causal relations) are less likely to be true than less informative models (that remain silent about those relations, by omitting some variables from consideration). This correct but trivial statement does not deliver the epistemological leverage promised in the paper. When complexity is evaluated with reasonable criteria (such as the number of nonzero effects in alternative models involving the same variables), more complex models can be more, less, or equally likely to be true compared with simpler ones.
