Understanding experiences of acute care by persons with mental health problems is vital for improving these experiences through the development of different parts of the care delivery and its facilities. Literature has extensively addressed experiences of persons with mental health problems in acute care settings. Yet, there is a paucity of studies that aggregate and organize these findings in presenting development-oriented solutions for the improvements of these experiences. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE? Acute care can be understood through patients' experiences of structure (such as setting, staff and resources); process (such as communication and interpersonal relations); and outcome (such as satisfaction and post-discharge well-being and health) and suggests improvements in these domains. The paper illuminates that previous literature has mainly captured negative experiences of acute care by persons with mental health problems, and suggests diverting the focus tuthors. Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Independent or parallel evolution of similar traits is key to understanding the genetics and limitations of adaptation. Adaptation from the same genetic changes in different populations defines parallel evolution. Such genetic changes can derive from standing ancestral variation or de novo mutations and excludes instances of adaptive introgression. In this issue of Molecular Ecology, Walden et al.(2020) investigate the scale of parallel climate adaptation from standing genetic variation between two North American Arabidopsis lyrata lineages, each formed by a distinct evolutionary history during the last glacial cycle. By identifying adaptive variants correlated with three ecologically significant climatic gradients, they show that instead of the same genetic variants or even genes, parallel evolution is only observed at the level of biological processes. The evolution of independent adaptive variants to climate in two genetically close lineages is explained by their different post-glacial demographic histories. Separate glacial refugia and strong population bottlenecks were probably sufficient to change the landscape of shared allele frequencies, hindering the possibility of parallel evolution. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Salinomycin ( 1 ) exhibits a large spectrum of biological activities including the capacity to selectively eradicate cancer stem cells (CSC), making it and its derivatives promising candidates for the development of drug leads against CSC. We have previously shown that salinomycin and its C20-propargylamine derivative (Ironomycin, 2 ) accumulate in lysosomes and sequester iron in this organelle. We hereby report a library of salinomycin derivatives, including products of C20-amination, C1-esterification, C9-oxidation and C28-dehydration. We have evaluated the biological activity of these compounds against transformed human mammary epithelial HMLER CD24 low /CD44 high cells, a well-established model of breast CSC, and HMLER CD24 high /CD44 low cells deprived of CSC properties. Unlike other structural alterations, derivative 4 , which displays a cyclopropylamine at position C20, showed a strikingly low IC 50 value of 23 nM against HMLER CD24 low /CD44 high cells. This study provides highly selective molecules to target the CSC niche, a potential interesting advance for drug development to prevent cancer resistance. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim. In this paper, chloro (-Cl) group was substituted for methyl (-CH 3 ) moiety at the kink position and witnessed a drastic modification in the phase structure of a bent-shaped molecule ( 1-4 to 1-18 ). An unusual stabilization of cubic blue phase (BP) over a wide range of 16.4 °C has been observed. The two homologues in this series ( 1-12 and 1-14 ) exhibits an interesting phase sequence consisting of BPI/II, N*, TGBA, SmA and SmX. The higher homologues ( 1-16 and 1-18 ) stabilize the SmX phase enantiotropically in the entire temperature range. Crystal structure analysis approved the bent molecular architecture with a bent angle of 148° and revealed the presence of two different molecular conformations in an asymmetric unit of compound 1-4 . DFT study corroborated that the -Cl moiety at the central core of the molecule leads to an increase in the dipole moment along the transverse direction which in turn facilitates the unusual stabilization of frustrated structures. Crystal polymorphism has been evidenced in three homologues ( 1-10 , 1-12 and 1-14 ) of the series. On the application of mechanical pressure via grinding, the compound 1-10 transforms from bright yellow crystalline solid to dark orange-green amorphous solid which reversed upon dropwise addition of dichloromethane indicating reversible mechanochromism of compounds. Excellent thermochromic behaviour has been observed for compound 1-10 with a controlled temperature-color combination. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.Cancer stem cells (CSC) constitute a subpopulation of cells in solid tumors that is responsible for resistance to conventional chemotherapy, metastasis and cancer relapse. The natural product Salinomycin can selectively target this cell niche by directly interacting with lysosomal iron, taking advantage of upregulated iron homeostasis in CSC. Here, we identify inhibitors of the divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) that selectively target CSC by blocking lysosomal iron translocation. This leads to lysosomal iron accumulation, production of reactive oxygen species and cell death with features of ferroptosis. DMT1 inhibitors selectively target CSC in primary cancer cells and circulating tumor cells, demonstrating the physiological relevance of this strategy. Taken together, this opens up opportunities to tackle unmet needs in anti-cancer therapy. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.Isotretinoin is a safe and useful medication for acne management. Adverse effects are mostly related to cutaneous and mucous membranes. We present a case of a 24-year-old female patient who was on treatment with isotretinoin for acne vulgaris Grade 4. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Y-27632.html After 6 months of treatment, the patient presented with localized patch of hair loss. Beginning of alopecia areata in patients with acne vulgaris could be regarded as a side effect of retinoids due to anti-acne therapy. The exact mechanism by which retinoids cause hair loss is not known. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
