The battle of COVID-19 is currently at different levels of intensity in each country and even each city. The authors have prepared succinct recommendations regarding the care of patients with breast cancer, divided into phases that can easily be adapted to each units' needs and resources, and stepped up or stepped down according to escalating and de-escalating circumstances. The structure can also be transposed easily to different cancer types, enabling continued provision of best standards of care despite unprecedented stressors. Surgery must go on.Bacterial biofilm formation causes serious problems in various fields of medical, clinical, and industrial settings. Antibiotics and biocide treatments are typical methods used to remove bacterial biofilms, but biofilms are difficult to remove effectively from surfaces due to their increased resistance. An alternative approach to treatment with antimicrobial agents is using biofilm inhibitors that regulate biofilm development without inhibiting bacterial growth. In the present study, we found that linoleic acid (LA), a plant unsaturated fatty acid, inhibits biofilm formation under static and continuous conditions without inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. LA also influenced the bacterial motility, extracellular polymeric substance production, and biofilm dispersion by decreasing the intracellular cyclic diguanylate concentration through increased phosphodiesterase activity. Furthermore, quantitative gene expression analysis demonstrated that LA induced the expression of genes associated with diffusible signaling factor-mediated quorum sensing that can inhibit or induce the dispersion of P. see more aeruginosa biofilms. These results suggest that LA is functionally and structurally similar to a P. aeruginosa diffusible signaling factor (cis-2-decenoic acid) and, in turn, act as an agonist molecule in biofilm dispersion. We read with interest the article by Caselli D et al., reporting a case series of 38 children with chilblain-like lesions (CLL). Testing for SARS-CoV-2, including PCR, rapid test serology and ELISA method for IgA and IgG antibodies yielded negative results in all cases. They concluded that their data do not allow them to support the relationship of CLL with SARS-CoV-2 infection. So far, data in the literature studying CLL documented a very low percentage of laboratory confirmed SARS-CoV-2. However, Colmenero and colleagues were able to detect SARS-CoV-2 in endothelial cells of cutaneous chilblain lesions by immunohistochemistry methods in 7 pediatric patients with negative nasopharyngeal swabs.
Several longitudinal studies in high-income countries suggest that depression increases stroke risk. However, few prior studies have evaluated this association in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where rapidly aging populations may have markedly different vascular risk profiles.

Prospective cohort study.

The Mexican Health and Aging Study is a national population-based study of older adults in Mexico.

A total of 10,693 Mexican adults aged 50 and older enrolled in 2001 with no history of prior stroke.

Depressive symptoms were assessed with a modified 9-item Centers for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (elevated depressive symptom cutoff ≥5) in 2001 and 2003. We evaluated associations between baseline and short-term (2-year) changes in elevated depressive symptoms (categorized as stable low, recently remitted, recent-onset, or stable high symptoms) with incident self-reported or next-of-kin reported doctor-diagnosed stroke through 2015 using Cox proportional hazards models and sensitivi countries but should be replicated in other LMICs.
Strategies to reduce depressive symptoms merit evaluation as approaches to prevent stroke in middle-income countries. Findings are similar to those in high-income countries but should be replicated in other LMICs.Information on hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and COVID is scarce. HS is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease associated with comorbidities known to affect negatively COVID outcomes, such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, smoking and cardiovascular disease.Previous research suggests that preschoolers struggle with understanding abstract relations and with reasoning by analogy. Four experiments find, in contrast, that 3- and 4-year-olds (N = 168) are surprisingly adept at relational and analogical reasoning within a causal context. In earlier studies preschoolers routinely favored images that share thematic or perceptual commonalities with a target image (object matches) over choices that match the target along abstract relations (relational matches). The present studies embed such choice tasks within a cause-and-effect framework. Without causal framing, preschoolers strongly favor object matches, replicating the results of previous studies. But with causal framing, preschoolers succeed at analogical transfer (i.e., choose relational matches). These findings suggest that causal framing facilitates early analogical reasoning.Psoriasis is a skin disease that can negatively impact on patients' psychosocial well-being. It affects millions of people worldwide. The overall economic burden (meaning the cost to the economy) of psoriasis is severe; however, no study has fully assessed it due to a lack of comparable data from different countries. This study looked at work productivity loss (WPL) and indirect costs, using the same methods and at the same point in time in six countries (the USA, France, Germany, Spain, the UK and Italy). Work productivity loss (WPL) takes into account absenteeism (time missed from work due to a disease, in this case psoriasis) and presenteeism (reduced productivity due to psoriasis while at work). Associated indirect costs are a calculation of how much this WPL costs in financial terms. The study also looked at whether WPL was associated with the severity of patients' psoriasis across these countries. The researchers found that work productivity was progressively more affected with increasing psoriasis severity, broadly meaning that the more severe the psoriasis, the greater the work productivity loss. This confirms the relationship between disease severity and its economic burden. This study contributes to our understanding of the global economic burden of psoriasis by demonstrating that WPL correlates with severity of psoriasis and health-related quality of life in people who are employed. Consequently, therapies that effectively treat psoriasis and improve health-related quality of life are likely to have a positive impact on WPL and, in turn, the considerable economic burden of psoriasis.
