the number of latent MTrPs in tensor fasciae latae. We have succeeded in selecting four higher yield mutants from five gamma-ray irradiated high-yielding Japanese rice varieties using a novel approach. read more A total of 464 M2 plants which had heavier total panicle weights per plant were first selected from 9801 irradiated M2 plants. Their higher yields were confirmed by yield trials conducted for three years with a six to ten-pairwise replicated plot design. FukuhibikiH6 and FukuhibikiH8 were selected from an irradiated high-yielding variety Fukuhibiki and showed 1.2% to 22.5% higher yield than their original significantly. YamadawaraH3 was selected from an irradiated high-yielding variety Yamadawara and its yield advantages were 2.7% to 3.9%. However, there was no difference in the genotypes of the 96 SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) markers between the higher yield mutants and their respective original varieties. The differences in the measured phenotypical traits between each mutant and its original variety were not constant and the actual differences were marginal. Therefore, the higher yields of the selected mutants were likely to have been caused by physiological traits rather than phenotypical traits. The selection method used in this study is an application of the directed evolution method which has long been commonly used in the substantial improvements of microorganisms and their proteins.Memristor-type synaptic devices that can effectively emulate synaptic plasticity open up new directions for neuromorphic hardware systems. Here, a double high-k oxide structured memristor device (TaO x /HfO2) was fabricated, and its synaptic applications were characterized. Device deposition was confirmed through TEM imaging and EDS analysis. During the forming and set processes, switching of the memristor device can be divided into three types by compliance current and cycling control. Filamentary switching has strengths in terms of endurance and retention, but conductance is low. On the other hand, for interface-type switching, conductance is increased, but at the cost of endurance and retention. In order to overcome this dilemma, we proposed pseudo interface-type switching, and obtained excellent retention, decent endurance, and a variety of conductance levels that can be modulated by pulse response. The recognition rate calculated by the neural network simulation using the Fashion Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology database (MNIST) dataset, and the measured conductance values show that pseudo interface-type switching produces results that are similar to those of an interface-type device.
Fabry disease (FD) causes cerebrovascular disease (CVD) even if asymptomatic, and this is why it is important to identify non-invasive methods to monitor the disease. We evaluated the usefulness of the cerebral autoregulation, vasoreactivity, and neurovascular coupling assessed by transcranial Doppler (TCD) in FD.
Ten adult patients with classic phenotype FD, without clinical expression of CVD, and ten healthy controls, were included. We monitored cerebral blood flow velocity with TCD in the middle and posterior cerebral arteries, blood pressure, heart rate, and non-invasive expired carbon dioxide (CO
). Cerebral autoregulation was calculated from the spontaneous oscillations of blood pressure, cerebral vasoreactivity through CO
inhalation and hyperventilation and neurovascular coupling by the flow velocity change to visual stimulation.
FD male patients showed blunted vasoreactivity in posterior circulation (0.70 ± 0.36%/mmHg vs. 1.09 ± 0.18%/mmHg CO
,
= 0.01) and impaired neurovascular coupling (overshoot 15 ± 2.9% vs. 28 ± 6.1%,
< 0.01). Cerebral autoregulation was similar to controls.
Male patients with FD classic phenotype and hitherto clinical expression of CVD already show impairment of cerebral vasoreactivity and neurovascular coupling. It supports the notion of an early dysfunction of cerebral microvascular in a presymptomatic stage of CVD in FD and that TCD could be useful in its assessment.

It influences tumorigenesis and patient survival. Despite the clinical significance of ALT in tumors, the manner in which ALT is activated and influences prognostic outcomes in distinct cancer types is unclear. In this work, we profiled distinct telomere maintenance mechanisms (TMMs) using 8953 transcriptomes of 31 different cancer types from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Our results demonstrated that approximately 29% of cancer types display high ALT activity with low telomerase activity in the telomere-lengthening group. Among the distinct ALT mechanisms, homologous recombination was frequently observed in sarcoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, and kidney chromophobe. Five cancer types showed a significant difference in survival in the presence of high ALT activity. Sarcoma patients with elevated ALT had unfavorable risks (p less then 0.038) coupled with a high expression of TOP2A, suggesting this as a potential drug target. On the contrary, glioblastoma patients had favorable risks (p less then 0.02), and showed low levels of antigen-presenting cells. Together, our analyses highlight cancer type-dependent TMM activities and ALT-associated genes as potential therapeutic targets. In this paper a hybrid combination of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) was used for developing cementitious self-sensing composite with high mechanical, microstructural and durability performances. The mixture of these two nanoparticles with different 1D and 2D geometrical shapes can reduce the percolation threshold to a certain amount which can avoid agglomeration formation and also reinforce the microstructure due to percolation and electron quantum tunneling amplification. In this route, different concentrations of CNT + GNP were dispersed by Pluronic F-127 and tributyl phosphate (TBP) with 3 h sonication at 40 °C and incorporated into the cementitious mortar. Mechanical, microstructural, and durability of the reinforced mortar were investigated by various tests in different hydration periods (7, 28, and 90 days). Additionally, the piezoresistivity behavior of specimens was also evaluated by the four-probe method under flexural and compression cyclic loading. Results demonstrated that hybrid CNT + GNP can significantly improve mechanical and microstructural properties of cementitious composite by filler function, bridging cracks, and increasing hydration rate mechanisms.
