The adrenal glands may be overlooked when evaluating acutely ill patients. Acute adrenal disorders may result from complications of an underlying systemic disease, which may be unsuspected clinically. Various acute adrenal emergencies including trauma, spontaneous hemorrhage, infarction and infection can be diagnosed using CT and MRI; however, in uncertain cases follow-up to resolution of imaging findings or histological sampling may be required for diagnosis.Purpose To assess the diagnostic value of retrospectively fused PET/MRI by comparing the detection rates (DRs) of fused 64CuCl2 PET/MRI vs. fused 18F-Choline PET/MRI in patients with suspected prostatic cancer (PCa) recurrence. The secondary objective was to compare the DRs of fused PET/MRI vs. check details those of the separate imaging modalities. Methods We retrospectively evaluated 50 PCa patients with biochemical relapse after radical prostatectomy (RP) or radiotherapy (RT). All patients underwent 64CuCl2 PET/CT, 18F-Choline PET/CT, and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) within 15 days. Fused 64CuCl2-PET/MRI and fused 18F-Choline PET/MRI images were obtained by retrospective co-registration of MRI and PET images. Experienced readers interpreted the images, and the DRs of each imaging modality were assessed. Results In the patient-based analysis, overall DRs of fused 64CuCl2 PET/MRI, fused 18F-Choline PET/MRI, 64CuCl2 PET/CT, 18F-Choline PET/CT, and mpMRI were 88%, 68%, 82%, 56%, and 74%, respectively. In the lesion-based analysis, overall DRs of fused 64CuCl2 PET/MRI, fused 18F-Choline PET/MRI, 64CuCl2 PET/CT, 18 F-Choline PET/CT, and mpMRI were 95%, 66%, 87%, 58%, and 71%, respectively. Conclusions Retrospectively fused PET/MRI is able to overcome the limitations of the separate interpretation of the individual imaging modalities. Fused 64CuCl2 PET/MRI provided the highest diagnostic performance in the detection of PCa local relapse. Background To assess the technical feasibility, success rate, puncture complications and procedural characteristics of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement using a three-dimensional vascular map (3D-VM) overlay based on image registration of pre-procedural contrast-enhanced (CE) multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) for portal vein puncture guidance. Materials and methods Overall, 27 consecutive patients (59 ± 9 years, 18male) with portal hypertension undergoing elective TIPS procedure were included. TIPS was guided by CE-MDCT overlay after image registration based on fluoroscopic images. A 3D-VM of the hepatic veins and the portal vein was created based on the pre-procedural CE-MDCT and superimposed on fluoroscopy in real-time. Procedural characteristics as well as hepatic vein catheterization time (HVCT), puncture time (PT), overall procedural time (OPT), fluoroscopy time (FT) and the dose area product (DAP) were evaluated. Thereafter, HVCT, PT, OPT and FT using 3D-VM (61 ± 9 y, portal vein puncture and radiation exposure.Immunotherapy is a rapidly growing field within oncology and is being increasingly used in the management of several malignancies. Due to their unique mechanism of action on the immune system and neoplastic cells, the response pattern and adverse events of this novel therapy are distinct from conventional systemic therapies. Accordingly, the imaging appearances following immunotherapy including adverse events are unique and at times perplexing. Imaging is integral to management of patients on immunotherapeutic agents and a thorough understanding of its mechanism, response patterns and adverse events is crucial for precise interpretation of imaging studies. This review provides a description of the mechanism of action of current immunotherapeutic agents and the organ-wise description of their side effects.Activated macrophages show increased expression of vimentin, an intermediate filament protein. Macrophages secrete vimentin into extracellular space; however, the functions of extracellular vimentin and the process of vimentin secretion are not clearly defined. We found that oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) via CD36 induced vimentin secretion in macrophages. We also revealed that extracellular vimentin induced macrophages to release inflammatory cytokines and augmented oxLDL-induced release of TNF-α and IL-6. Extracellular vimentin activated NF-κB signaling via phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (p-FAK) and IκB kinase (p-IκK). Extracellular vimentin also amplified the oxLDL-induced p-IκK increase and IκB decrease. Vimentin-induced TNF-α release was not dependent on Dectin-1, which is known to bind vimentin. We measured serum vimentin concentrations and found that patients with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease had higher levels of serum vimentin than normal subjects. Circulating oxLDL and Vimentin concentration is strongly correlated with oxLDL concentration in serum.Purpose To evaluate, whether the regional variability of tonsil surgery in terms of the 16 Federal States of Germany was mirrored by a comparable variability of bleeding complications in male and female patients. Methods A longitudinal population-based inpatient cohort study was performed including all patients who had undergone tonsil surgery between 2005 and 2018. The database was provided by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany and included all inpatient cases after tonsillectomy (with or without adenoidectomy), tonsillotomy, abscess-tonsillectomy and secondary tonsillectomy. The population was stratified by region (16 Federal States) and gender. Operation rates were calculated in relation to the end-year population number of each region. Bleeding percentages were calculated for each calendar year and region as the number of procedures to achieve hemostasis divided by the total number of operations. Results The surgical rates varied significantly between the 16 Federal States in male, female and all prmany. It needs further studies to clarify, why a higher prevalence of surgical practice, thus surgical experience, was not followed by lower bleeding complications.Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condyle and glenoid fossa morphology with measurements on Computed Tomography (CT) and volumetric analysis using InVesalius software program. Materials and methods 250 condyles in 125 patients (mean age 40.64) was evaluated on CT. Length, width, and height of the condyle, condylar volume, the thickness of glenoid fossa (TGF), condyle surface area, anterior space (AS), superior space (SS), and posterior space (PS) were measured in this study. Two left and right sides of the jaw have been measured. Linear measurements were performed with the image analysis program (Image J, 1.4 v version, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD). Volume and surface area measurements were performed with InVesalius software (CTI, Campinas, SãoPaulo, Brazil). Results To compare the dimensions of the condyle between males and females, there was only a significant difference in left AS and SS and no significant difference was found between males and females in other measured factors.
