Critical examination of literature related to evidence-based practice from the 1990s to the present.

This review of the nursing literature from the 1990s to the present reveals that in the midst of the movement to promote evidence-based practice as the gold standard, there have been persistent expressions of concern. These concerns are (a) lack of alignment of evidence-based practice with nursing's disciplinary perspective; (b) wrongful privileging of empirical knowledge over other sources of knowledge; (c) underappreciation of the complexity of practice and practice wisdom;(d) possibilities of evidence-based practice thwarting innovation and creativity;(e) vulnerabilities of empirical evidence to be flawed, inconsistent, and influenced by competing interests; (f) situational realities that limit access to and critical appraisal of evidence that access to and critical appraisal of evidence is not feasible or practical; and (g) lack of relationship of evidence-based practice to theory.

To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of cervical cancer cases reported at a tertiary care teaching hospital in western Saudi Arabia.

A retrospective chart review was conducted on medical records of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, histological types and stage, treatment modalities, and disease outcomes.

Cervical cancer was diagnosed among 89 patients from 2002 to 2018. History of pap smear was reported among 31 cases (34.8%). Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common reported histopathological subtype. check details Almost one third (29.2%) of the patients were at stage III or IV at the time of diagnosis. The most frequent treatment regimen was combined radio/chemotherapy. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed an overall survival rate of 81.5%.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is an autosomal dominant disease. This disease involves multisystem and occurs in one out of every 6,000-10,000 individuals. In this study, we describe a 47-year-old male known tuberous sclerosis patient with an insulinoma. The tumor was incidentally detected in follow-up imaging for a previous ampulla of Vater tubular adenoma. However, the patient reported symptoms of hypoglycemia. The insulinoma was enucleated successfully. Histopathology revealed a well-differentiated, grade one neuroendocrine tumor measuring around 2 cm in diameter. Seven cases were reported in the literature of tuberous sclerosis-associated insulinoma. The 7 reported cases had different hypoglycemia related symptoms. The reported tumors varied in size and location on the pancreas. This paper details the eighth case worldwide where an insulinoma occurred in a tuberous sclerosis patient.
To explore the attitude and perception of undergraduate medical students and their staff towards the educational methods (conventional versus online) and to assess their performance accordingly.

It was a comparative cross sectional study, conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Al- Imam University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on May 30, 2020. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect the data from students and staff about conventional teaching, online teaching, conventional examination and online examination. It was in the form of 5-point Likert-type scale ranging from 5-strongly agree, to 1-strongly disagree, in addition to age and gender. The results of conventional and online examination were recorded.

The total sample reached 230 students and 20 staff. Mean scores for conventional teaching and examination were significantly higher than online. The mean values for grades of online final examination was significantly higher than those of midterm conventional examination. Most of the statements related to conventional teaching and examination attained a good response where students and their staff conveyed a negative perception pertinent to online examination.
