Bedside Crib and Travel Cot
Bedside cribs look similar to the bassinet that is attached to the sides of a bed. Some have sides that can be lowered for easy access, while others come with an incline that is perfect for reflux babies.
MFM tester Georgina found this crib to be simple to assemble and the instructions were clear, making it a quick and easy build. It folds down to the size of a small bag and comes with a convenient bag for transport.
Easy to put together
Bedside cribs are usually easy to set up, and are on the smaller side, so they can be easily tucked away beside your bed. They also tend to be lighter, which makes them more transportable. Georgina, one of our MFM home testers, was extremely pleased with the Maxi-Cosi Lora crib for being "super straightforward to build with clear instructions and simple zips." The crib can also be used as a travel cot, and comes with a handy bag for when you're on the move. It includes multiple mesh openings to allow ventilation and its height-adjustable allows it to fit on any mattress.
Some cribs for bedside use a side panel that can be raised, allowing an easy access to your baby without having to get out of your own bed. This is a great option for mothers who are breastfeeding or for those who want to stay close to their baby at night, but don't want to take on the risk of co-sleeping.
The majority of models have an integrated function that lets you to rock your baby. This can be extremely relaxing for your baby and aids in falling asleep. Some cribs have a recline position that is beneficial for children suffering from reflux or colic. These should only be used under supervision. A health professional or a GP should be consulted before trying this position.
Most cribs with a bedside come with a canopy to protect your baby from light and noise, which can be beneficial in keeping them quiet. Some come with a storage compartment beneath, which is ideal to store extra blankets, nappies and clothing for your baby.
A lot of bedside cribs can be converted into toddler beds or standalone cots. This is a major selling point for many families. MFM's 2021 Mother&Baby Awards winner The Joie Roomie Go is a prime example. It has side panels that can be removed with conversion kits, as well as a tummy tilt that make it a versatile travel bed. It also comes with 5 different height settings to match your bed and was highly praised by our MFM home testers for being simple to build as well as comfortable and compact. The Graco Play Yard is also called a Pack and Play is a different popular option. It was a finalist for the 2022 Mother&Baby Award.
Cosy and comfortable
A bedside crib allows you to monitor your child from the comfort of your own bed. It's a great option for moms who are recovering from a C-section since it is easy to lift your infant towards you to feed their needs at the night or change their nappies with no need to get out of the bed. The most cozy cribs have mesh sides that allow you to see your baby through.
Some cribs let you lower the barrier completely. This lets you sleep with your baby without any risk. (Make sure that the crib you choose meets the current safety requirements). Some cribs let you lower the barrier but then raise it again after you have lifted baby out. This is ideal for parents concerned about their child rolling off their mattress.
The Luah is the winner of the Mother&Baby Awards Best Cot or Moses Basket in 2021, is designed to attach to divans and bedsteads, but requires longer straps (check your specs to make sure your bed can accommodate). It's a large design that has an opening side panel as well as a patented perforated base that creates an air cushion to increase airflow. There's also an integrated reflux setting, and an swivel that can be 360 degrees to allow you to turn the crib according to the position your baby prefers.
If you are seeking something smaller Tutti Bambini CoZee has oak legs and a range of fabric options that will fit in with your decor. It's also super-easy to assemble - Georgina who participated in our MFM tests, put it together speedily and didn't need to read the instructions. It is also a great travel cot. It folds flat and can be popped into bags.
The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also slightly larger than the average, however it is still compact and easy to fit to your bed. Georgina found it straightforward to put together, however she was not convinced that the zips could have been better explained on the instruction sheet.
Easy to clean
When you're looking at travel cots and bedside cribs, look for ones that come with a mattress cover that is machine-washable. This will help keep it clean from leaky nappies, infant sick and spills. You should also choose an item that can be easily disassembled so you can clean and sanitise all the corners.
This is vital, as it's the best way to ensure that all germs and dirt have been eliminated. Make sure that the sides of the crib are securely secured to ensure that your baby doesn't fall down or get trapped.
Aside from being easy to clean, you'll want a crib for your bed that is a comfortable place for your baby and is compatible with your own bed. This is especially important in the case of a co-sleeping bedside crib. They are designed to fit securely to the side of the parent's bed and allow parents to easily reach their infant throughout the night for feeding and comforting while maintaining the safety of separate sleeping areas.
When choosing a crib for your bedroom it is important to consider whether it has additional features that may be beneficial to you. For instance, some cribs come with the ability to rock (useful for babies who are fussy) or tilt, but be aware that you should only utilize this feature with care, as it can be dangerous if your child falls out.
It is also important to make sure that your cot or crib has a firm and flat mattress that is able to fit snugly into the frame. This will decrease the risk of SIDS because the baby's head and feet will not fall into folds or gaps in the bedding.
It's a good idea purchase a new mattress for your crib or travel cot, rather than relying on one that was passed down or purchased second-hand. Mattresses that have been used tend to lose their shape over time, increasing the risk of SIDS. bedside cosleeper Cots For Tots that are new should be compliant with BS EN 1130:2019, the latest standard that imposes stricter requirements for secure and efficient sleep solutions.
Versatile

They can also be used as a separate crib during the daytime. They usually come with a side panel that can be lowered to allow you to be able to see your baby and hold the baby. Some cribs let you keep the side panel down at night. This allows you to be close and comfortable with your baby while taking care to minimize the risks of sharing the bed. Some cribs can be converted into an oversized travel cot. Others have additional features such as rocking, tilting, or converting into a larger baby cot.
The SnuzPod 4 is a consistently well-loved crib and it's not only about its sleek and modern Scandi design. This crib comes with six height settings and a handy shelf for storage. It's also a little heavier and bulkier than many of our other cribs that are more portable, but it comes in a convenient bag to keep it free of dust and clean when stored.
It's simple to put together with clear instructions and a handy toolkit to help you. It's also easy to clean, with the mattress cover that is machine washable and breathable fabrics. It comes with a few additional features compared to other cribs. These include an anti-reflux angle and a rocking feature and storage space.
Jasmin says that this crib is fantastic because it's "easy to reach the baby in the middle of the night for a peaceful feeding, and it's larger than other Moses Baskets, which means it will last a longer time before my son is old enough to use it". She also likes that it's easy to clean and feels solid and well-made. It's designed to fit on a divan bed, which makes it a great option for those with small space. It also comes with a handy bag to take on your travels. A perfect all-rounder.
