In this review, we summarize the relationship between METH use and PD, interdependent mechanisms that are involved in METH-induced neurotoxicity and the significance of α-synuclein upregulation in response to METH use. The identification of α-synuclein overexpression and aggregation as a contributor to METH-induced neurotoxicity may provide a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of the deleterious effect of this drug and drug addiction.The enzyme glutathione transferase M2-2, expressed in human astrocytes, increases its expression in the presence of aminochrome and catalyzes the conjugation of aminochrome, preventing its toxic effects. Secretion of the enzyme glutathione transferase M2-2 from U373MG cells, used as a cellular model for astrocytes, has been reported, and the enzyme is taken up by neuroblastoma SYSH-S7 cells and provide protection against aminochrome. The present study provides evidence that glutathione transferase M2-2 is released in exosomes from U373MG cells, thereby providing a means for intercellular transport of the enzyme. With particular relevance to Parkinson disease and other degenerative conditions, we propose a new mechanism by which astrocytes may protect dopaminergic neurons against the endogenous neurotoxin aminochrome.The vast majority of (BRCA1/2) genetic testing has been conducted in White women, in particular Ashkenazi Jewish women, with limited information available for Black and Hispanic women. Understanding perspectives of those who are underserved is critical to developing interventions to support inclusive approaches to genetic testing. This qualitative study explored knowledge and perceptions of BRCA1/2 genetic testing among diverse women in South Florida. We also explored participants' information needs. Convenience sampling was used to recruit a diverse group of 15 women with a personal or family history of breast cancer. We conducted semi-structured interviews and used grounded theory method to analyze the data. Five themes were identified (1) lacking awareness and knowledge of BRCA1/2 genetic testing and results among Black women, (2) perceiving BRCA1/2 genetic testing as beneficial to themselves and a way to be proactive about cancer risk, (3) perceiving BRCA1/2 genetic testing as beneficial to family members, (4) interactions with healthcare providers and the healthcare system that shape genetic testing experiences, and (5) information needs for reducing cancer risk and promoting health. Our findings suggest that diverse underserved women perceived genetic testing as beneficial to themselves and family members. Women needed more information about the BRCA genes and genetic testing, prevention strategies, and the latest breast cancer research. Healthcare providers, particularly nurse practitioners, need to engage diverse high-risk women in discussions about their cancer risk, address unmet information needs, and, in particular, educate Black women about the benefits of pursuing genetic testing.Accumulating evidence demonstrates that the cerebellum is involved in a variety of cognitive functions. Recently, impaired auditory-motor integration for vocal control has been identified in patients with cerebellar degeneration, characterized by abnormally enhanced vocal compensations for pitch perturbations. However, the causal relationship between the cerebellum and auditory feedback during vocal production remains unclear. By applying anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) over right cerebellum, the present study investigated cerebellar contributions to auditory-motor processing of feedback errors during vocal pitch regulation. Twenty young adults participated in a frequency-altered-feedback (FAF) task, in which they vocalized vowel sounds and heard their voice unexpectedly pitch-shifted by ± 50 or ± 200 cents. Active or sham cerebellar a-tDCS was applied either prior to or during the FAF task. Compensatory vocal responses to pitch perturbations were measured and compared across the conditions. Active cerebellar a-tDCS led to significantly larger and slower vocal compensations for pitch perturbations than sham stimulation. Moreover, this modulatory effect was observed regardless of the timing of cerebellar a-tDCS as well as the size and direction of the pitch perturbation. These findings provide the first causal evidence that the cerebellum is essentially involved in auditory feedback control of vocal production. Enhanced and slowed vocal compensations caused by cerebellar a-tDCS may be related to its inhibition on the prefrontal cortex that exerts inhibitory control over vocal compensation behavior, suggesting the importance of the cerebrocerebellar connections in this feedback control process.
Despite impressive response rates, most patients with advanced melanoma ultimately progress following therapy with B-Raf proto-oncogene (BRAF) inhibitors (BRAFi). Therefore, frequent radiologic assessments are necessary, and reliable serum biomarkers would be beneficial for disease monitoring.

Recently, we started a CCP dedicated to colorectal cancer (CRC), including a colonoscopy session for CRC diagnosis and prevention. We aimed to evaluate the appropriateness, the quality, and the efficiency in the delivery of colonoscopy with the open-access system and a CCP program in the CRC. Quality indicators for colonoscopy in subjects in the CCP were compared to referrals by general practitioners (OAC) or by non-gastroenterologist physicians (non-gastroenterologist physician colonoscopy, NGPC). Attendance rate to colonoscopy was greater in the CCP group and NGPC group than in the OAC group (99%, 99%, and 86%, respectively).
