Locomotive syndrome is a condition of reduced mobility, and patients have a high risk of requiring nursing care. In order to investigate the level of awareness of the term "locomotive syndrome" and the factors relating to awareness in a community, awareness of locomotive syndrome was included in a questionnaire survey on health and daily life conducted in Koumi Town (Japan), which was distributed to 3181 eligible residents aged 40 years or older. Information on age, sex, marital status, educational attainment, lifestyle, and social environment was also collected, and the association of awareness with various factors was analyzed with two multivariable Poisson regression models. As a result, awareness among respondents was 44.6%. Awareness was significantly higher among women, those who were 60-79 years old, married, and had received higher education. Additionally, awareness was significantly associated with social factors, especially attendance at regional events within the last one year, in both women and men the adjusted prevalence ratios (95% confidence intervals) were 1.26 (1.10-1.43) and 1.48 (1.19-1.83), respectively. In conclusion, in addition to strengthen awareness rising campaigns targeting men and for younger people, providing health education at social settings such as regional events may help improve future musculoskeletal health in the elderly.We demonstrated that the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) features of Ag/TiS2 nanostructures were dependent on the sublayer thickness. The Ag/TiS2 bilayer film was obtained by the self-assembly method and magnetron sputtering. The thickness was controlled by changing the sputtering time when the sputtering powers were the same. When the Ag thickness decreased from 50 nm to 5 nm, the LSPR was tuned from the visible region to the Near Infrared (NIR) region. When the TiS2 thickness decreased from 60 nm to 2 nm, the LSPR shifted from the IR to NIR region. Analysis showed the thickness changes of Ag and TiS2 resulted in the changed carrier density, which led to the thickness-dependent shift of the LSPR.Lloviu virus (LLOV), a bat-derived filovirus that is phylogenetically distinct from human pathogenic filoviruses such as Ebola virus (EBOV) and Marburg virus (MARV), was discovered in Europe. However, since infectious LLOV has never been isolated, the biological properties of this virus remain poorly understood. We found that vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) pseudotyped with the glycoprotein (GP) of LLOV (VSV-LLOV) showed higher infectivity in one bat (Miniopterus sp.)-derived cell line than in the other bat-derived cell lines tested, which was distinct from the tropism of VSV pseudotyped with EBOV (VSV-EBOV) and MARV GPs. We then focused on the interaction between GP and Niemann-Pick C1 (NPC1) protein, one of the cellular receptors of filoviruses. We introduced the Miniopterus bat and human NPC1 genes into NPC1-knockout Vero E6 cells and their susceptibilities to the viruses were compared. The cell line expressing the bat NPC1 showed higher susceptibility to VSV-LLOV than that expressing human NPC1, whereas the opposite preference was seen for VSV-EBOV. Using a site-directed mutagenesis approach, amino acid residues involved in the differential tropism were identified in the NPC1 and GP molecules.
