A Time-Travelling Journey: How People Talked About Best Bedside Cots 20 Years Ago
The Best Bedside Cots

A bedside cot is a bassinet-style crib that is attached to your bed which allows your infants to sleep close. This is an ideal option if you want your little one to be near to feed them without fuss in the early stages.

The HALO bassiNest Essentia is the winner of our best bedside cots test. It has a swiveling sleep surface and sidewalls which can be lowered easily. This makes it easy to reach over and soothe them.

Safety

A bedside crib is a fantastic solution for new parents that want to keep their child near them without compromising security. The crib is attached to one side of your mattress and has a movable end so you can reach out to your baby. You can use a bedside crib to feed your baby at night or help them go back to sleep. It's also a great choice for mothers who've had C-sections. Bedside cots are available in a variety of sizes and styles and some even have storage. If you're shopping for a bedside cot make sure you check out the safety features to make sure it is safe for your child.

The Boori Oasis Oval Cot is a stylish-looking cot that's easy to put together and compact. Its oval design is perfect for infants who lay around during sleep, since it means they won't get stuck in the corner like they might with an oblong crib. Cots 4 Tots is also able to fit into doors with standard frames which is a major plus for space-stretched new parents.

Another great option is the La Redoute Willox Adjustable Cot Bed. This cot has a lot of features that make parenting simpler, and it looks great. Its adjustable sides allow it to expand with your child and then convert into a toddler's bed when the time comes. It is also lightweight so it is easy to move around.

A good quality bedside crib should have mesh sides that are high to stop your child from falling out. It should be fitted securely to your bed with no gaps or sloppy areas. If you're not sure about fitting a bedside cot yourself or hiring a professional, let a professional do it for you.

Co-sleeping is not recommended until your baby is at least six months of age. The Lullaby Trust, as well as the NHS recommend that you should not let your newborn sleep in your bed. This is due to the danger of suffocation and overheating. However, if you need to co-sleep in a crib, a crib that is placed near your bed is the best option.

Size

A bedside cot, sometimes referred to as the bassinet is a cot that is attached to the side of your mattress. It comes with a side that can be lifted up or lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily without needing to get out of bed. Celebrity moms like Stacey Solomon Binky Felstead, and Lucy Mecklenburgh are awestruck by these. They are perfect for those with limited mobility following a C-section.

The Maxi-Cosi Lora is our top choice. It comes with the ability to peek at you to see your baby on the bottom of the mattress. It can also be adjusted to the height of your mattress but some mothers have complained about the difficulty of moving it up and down. It's also one of our lightest options that can be folded into a suitcase size. This makes it ideal to travel with your baby.

Another great option is the Slumber Carbon 3-in-1, which transforms into a bassinet, travel cot and playpen. It also was awarded our 2021 Mother&Baby Awards gold medal in the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket category. It has a handy storage shelf beneath and is extremely light to lift into and out of the car. Some mums, however, were concerned that it was too big and wide to be able to fit in tight spaces, particularly when it was used as a bed on the bed.

Design

The best cribs for bed are sleek, stylish and contemporary. Some are designed with innovative features, like a peek-a-boo flap on the side to let you check in on baby without disrupting them. Other features, such as adjustable height, are helpful when your child has difficulty getting up and down from bed. Some sleepers can also be used as a bassinet, cot or for babies with reflux. There are plenty of options if you want something more traditional.

A few of our favourites are the CoZee Air from Tutti Bambini, which won bronze in the 2021 Mother&Baby Award Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket category, and the Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted in the same category. Both have adjustable heights and can be transformed into a travel cot for use away from home. They're also super lightweight and easy to move from room room.

Some moms prefer the Lua Bedside sleeper that comes with a changing mat, storage area and a baby bassinet that can be folded which can be turned into a portable mini cot. It also comes with an organizer bag. Jasmine says it's the ideal size for babies and is bigger than Moses baskets, which can feel thin or flimsy.

The iCandy Cocoon is another great alternative. It can be used as a Moses Basket, cot or travel cot. It has a pop-up changing table, a shelf for toys and books, and an adjustable mesh side that lets you view your baby. It's not lightweight however it's easy to move around and looks fantastic in any bedroom.

Cost

If you're looking for a bedside sleeper, crib or bassinet, price will be a major factor. Some of the more popular models can be costly. However there are a lot of cheaper alternatives. Some even come in a variety of styles and colors to match the decor of your nursery.

The best bedside cots have adjustable sides that can be raised to match the bed's height. Some models come with an incline option that is perfect for babies who suffer from reflux. Some models come with a carry-on bag and fold up when not in use. This is perfect for new mothers who are always on the go or have guests coming over.

Bedside cots are typically a bit bigger than Moses baskets, but they are smaller than cribs. They can be moved from one place to another, and others have a side that can be lowered so that you can lift your baby towards you to feed them or comfort him. Some models come with a built-in rocker to help soothe your baby to sleep.

The Clair de Lune is a mid-priced option that was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards Best Cot Crib, Moses Basket category. It's sleek and stylish, but slightly wider than other options. It's probably not suitable for small spaces. It's also fairly heavy, at over 10kg, and will require some maneuvering to get it into position. Emily from Clair de Lune also notes that it's not as simple to get in and out of as other bedside sleepers, because the sides don't move much and you need to bend to scoop your baby up.
