CONCLUSION While working to build trusting relationships with African American students, forge relationships over time, and serve as mentors, faculty members need to understand the impact of societal stereotypes and mistrustful behaviors (e.g., stereotyping, saying one thing and doing another, using a double standard).BACKGROUND With the transition toward value-based care, health care organizations have a business imperative to simultaneously focus on improved health outcomes, improved patient and staff experience, and reduced costs (the Quadruple Aim). For federally qualified health centers-which provide care to some of nation's most vulnerable populations-balancing the complex task of systems change in the face of overwhelming volumes of information and best practices is challenging and can be supported through a guiding framework. PURPOSE This need for synthesis and translation of evidence in an actionable and practical way led to the design of a model for health center systems change. This article describes the development process and defines the resulting conceptual framework. METHODS Deployed a four-step process between 2016 and 2018 to develop and test a framework for value transformation in health centers. RESULTS NACHC's Quality Center developed the Value Transformation Framework to guide health center systems change toward high value care. The framework identifies 15 change areas across three Domains infrastructure, care delivery, and people and summarizes evidence-based action steps within the change areas. CONCLUSIONS The framework shows promise in supporting health center efforts to adapt, transform, and balance competing demands as they advance value-based models of care.BACKGROUND/SIGNIFICANCE Infants born extremely premature ( less then 1500 g) often experience lengthy stays in the challenging environment of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) separated from their parents. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to explore nurses' knowledge, attitude, and use of maternal voice as a therapeutic intervention for preterm infants in the NICU. METHODS Neonatal nurses (n = 117) completed an online survey about the use of maternal voice in their individual units. Questions included (1) previous knowledge surrounding use of maternal voice in the NICU; (2) their attitudes about using maternal voice recordings and/or live maternal speech as an intervention; (3) whether their unit had the necessary equipment and environment conducive to using the therapy; (4) average amount of time parents were in the NICU with their neonate; and (5) in what situations they would personally encourage the use of maternal recordings (during procedures, rounds, etc). RESULTS Of those responding, 73.3% of nurse (n = 117) respondents agreed they were willing to incorporate maternal recordings into caregiving, with 80.8% indicating they were open to learning and employing different therapies to improve parental involvement in infant care. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE When the appropriate equipment is available, neonatal nurses are interested and willing to use alternative therapies that incorporate parental participation into direct caregiving as well as utilizing maternal voice recordings. PURPOSE To give insight into the barriers, perspectives, and stresses of gay male caregivers (families) in their time spent in the NICU and to offer recommendations as to how better to serve them and their families. METHODS/SEARCH STRATEGY Searched using PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar. Key words used were "gay families," "fatherhood," "neonatal intensive care unit," "lesbians," and "surrogacy." FINDINGS/RESULTS There remains a very limited amount of data for healthcare providers as these relate to gay male fathers in the NICU, aside from narratives. Most of the research and literature that highlight potential barriers stem from heterosexual fatherhood in the NICU and lesbian parenting in the healthcare system. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE To have an understanding and knowledge to improve support for gay fathers in the NICU. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Research on gay fathers in the NICU and further research on lower economic gay fatherhood and gay men of color and fatherhood are required. Because of the small sample size, multicentered studies may warranted to aid in clinical significance.Assessing new graduate nurses' competency is an important outcome of the orientation and evaluation process. Nurse managers and nurse preceptors act as key stakeholders in the transition of new graduate nurses to professional practice and are often charged with the responsibility of assessing the competency of new graduate nurses. This article provides insight in regard to the perception of postorientation competency levels of new graduate nurses.
