The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary β-1,3-glucan supplementation and heat stress (HS) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, meat quality, organ weight, ileum microbiota, and immunity in broiler. A total of 1,440 1-day-old Ross 308 male chicks with an average initial BW of 43.06 ± 1.94 g were sorted into 6 (2 × 3) treatments, 14 replications per treatment. This trail included 2 factors the dosage of β-1,3-glucan (0, 100 g/T, and 200 g/T) and feeding condition (HS and normal). During the whole trial, significant impacts were observed in BW gain, feed intake,feed conversion rate, and the digestibility of DM and energy between normal treatments and HS treatments (P less then 0.05). From day 21 to 35, HS-challenged birds fed the diet with 200 g/T β-1,3-glucan had a lower feed conversion rate than those fed the diet with 0 or 100 g/T β-1,3-glucan (P less then 0.05). Moreover, the HS-exposed birds that fed the diet with β-1,3-glucan indicated a greater energy digestibility than those fed the nontreatment diet (P less then 0.05). Besides, β-1,3-glucan supplementation could elevate meat pH of all birds and decrease cooking loss significantly of HS-exposed birds (P less then 0.05). The HS birds fed the β-1,3-glucan diet obtained a reduced amount of Escherichia coli in the ileum than those fed the nontreatment diet (P less then 0.05). Besides, β-1,3-glucan supplementation lowered the level of tumor necrosis factor-α in HS-exposed birds significantly (P less then 0.05). These results indicated 100 and 200 g/T β-1,3-glucan supplementation, under HS condition or not, can increase growth performance without a negative response on immunity. Under HS condition, the addition of β-1,3-glucan at dosage from 100 to 200 g/T in the diet can increase energy digestibility, decrease cooking loss, reduce E. coli mount in the ileum, and the tumor necrosis factor-α concentration.A trial was conducted to evaluate how rapidly one could introduce faba bean in broiler diets and to what maximum level one could feed 3 zero-tannin faba bean cultivars to broiler chickens based on growth performance, carcass traits, and yield of carcass cuts. A total of 662 male broiler chickens (Ross 708) were fed one of 10 dietary treatments over 3 growth phases (starter [Str], day 0-12; grower [Gwr], day 13-25; and finisher [Fnr], day 26-41). Treatment diets included 3 different zero-tannin faba bean cultivars (Snowbird, Snowdrop, and Tabasco), each fed at 3 different inclusions low inclusion level of 5% in Str, 10% in Gwr, and 20% in Fnr; medium inclusion level of 10% in Str, 20% in Gwr, and 30% in Fnr; and high inclusion level of 15% in Str, 30% in Gwr, and 40% in Fnr. Wheat grain-soybean meal (SBM) diets were fed as control. Faba bean cultivars replaced SBM and wheat grain in phase diets. Neither cultivar nor inclusion level affected overall trial or growth phase BW, ADFI, ADG, GF, slaughter weight (WT), chilled carcass WT, and proportion of saleable cuts. Carcass dressing was 0.6% units lower for high vs. medium or low faba bean inclusion level (P less then 0.05). There was no effect on overall trial or growth phase ADFI and there were only slight reductions (P less then 0.05) in BW, ADG, GF, slaughter WT, chilled carcass WT, dressing percentage, and percentage of drumstick yield in broilers fed the treatment diets including faba bean compared with those fed the wheat-SBM control diet. The control diet's advantage was largely attributed to dehulling and the greater extent of processing to produce SBM vs. feeding raw, merely rolled, faba bean. In conclusion, broiler producers can feed any of the 3 zero-tannin faba bean cultivars evaluated as the most aggressive of the 3 inclusion levels tested (15, 30, 40% for the starter, grower, finisher phase) to maximize faba bean inclusion in broiler diets.The objective of this experiment was to determine total amino acid (TAA) content, standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of crude protein, and standardized ileal amino acid digestibility in 9 sources of soybean meal (SBM) of different origin and to subsequently establish equations for predicting the TAA content and concentration of standardized ileal digestible amino acids (SIDAA) based on their protein content and other proximate components. Concentration of SIDAA of the samples was also predicted using TAA values. A total of 160 1-day-old male broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 10 dietary treatments consisted of 9 semipurified diets containing one SBM (200 g of crude protein/kg) as the only source of dietary amino acid (AA) and one N-free diet to determine endogenous ileal AA flow. Each treatment consisted of 9 replicate pens with 11 chicks each. Each treatment was applied at 0900 on days 10 and 11. On both days, chicks with SMS were identified based on clinical symptoms (down in sternal or lateral recumbency, hyperventilation). Plasma glucose, 3, 3', 5-triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) concentrations, insulin, and liver glycogenday 11 can trigger the occurrence of SMS in young broiler chicks.
