GCA sometimes involves the aorta and its major branches and causes aortic dissection as a rare complication. We have experienced an autopsy case of aortic dissection due to GCA. The patient was an 87-year-old Japanese woman with Stanford type A aortic dissection who died 7 days after admission. Two years previously she had been diagnosed as having abdominal aortic aneurysm and undergone endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). Although she had no characteristic symptoms of GCA, autopsy revealed marked granulomatous inflammation in the dissected area and coronary arteries. Active arteritis was evident not only in the arteries of the upper extremity but also those in the lower extremity. Granulomatous inflammation was not evident in the aneurysm. The aortic dissection might have been an initial manifestation of GCA. We report the regions of GCA extension and its histology in detail.Macrobrachium nipponense, as one of the large-yield farmed shrimp, is facing germplasm degradation. Genetic improvement through hybridization is one of the effective methods to solve this problem. In this study, using a three-line hybrid strategy, two-hybrid F1 populations were obtained using three local populations of M. nipponense as parents for crossbreeding. Five populations were then cultured for 3 months. Growth rate performance was measured by the hepatosomatic index, weight gain, body length growth rate and special growth rate. Biochemical components were also assessed. The results showed that the survival rate and growth performance of the hybrid progeny were better than those of the parents. The levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, glycogen and lactic acid of the hybrid population were higher than those of the parents. This was consistent with variation in the activity of four digestive enzymes. Compared with the results of the fatty acid and amino acid analysis, it was found that the contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid and eight essential amino acids in the hybrid populations were significantly higher than those of their parents, and the contents of flavor amino acids were higher. The expression level of molting genes related to the growth of the parent populations was lower than that of the hybrids. These results show that crossbreeding is effective for the genetic improvement of M. nipponense germplasm. Hybrids showed advantages in growth and nutrition and multigenerational breeding will be required to form a stable germplasm.

Dietary magnesium intake of many Americans is known to be below nutritional recommendations, but typical magnesium intake from dietary sources in adults with migraine has not previously been evaluated.

Negative emotions related to never having been deployed to active duty are associated with an increased risk of hazardous drinking among United States Army Reserve/National Guard (USAR/NG) soldiers. Resiliency factors are known to buffer the effects of combat on hazardous drinking among service members who have been deployed, but it is not known whether these factors are protective for never-deployed service members, or which domains of hazardous drinking might be affected. Therefore, we examined the effects of a range of resiliency factors (i.e., marital satisfaction, psychological hardiness, intrinsic religiosity) on the relation between nondeployment emotions (NDE) and domains of hazardous drinking.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 7 (CDK7) has been critically linked to human cancer. However, the roles of CDK7 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remain incompletely known. Here, we sought to dissect the functions of CDK7 underlying HNSCC tumorigenesis and explore whether pharmacological inhibition of CDK7 could induce anti-cancer effects.

CDK7 expression was measured in a panel of HNSCC cell lines with p53 mutation and 20 pairs of HNSCC samples and adjacent non-tumor tissues. Genetic targeting and pharmacological inhibition of CDK7 were conducted to dissect the biological roles of CDK7 in p53-mutated HNSCC cells. An HNSCC xenograft model was developed to determine the therapeutic effects of THZ1 in vivo. Potential genes and pathways responsible for therapeutic effects of THZ1 were identified by genome-wide RNA-sequencing and bioinformatics interrogations.
