This effect held when target items were presented alone, or concurrently with a non-target referent. This is the first study to confirm such an effect and suggests that the size of a smartphone display can negatively influence the accuracy of users' visual perception. Thus, beyond aesthetics or cost, it must be realized that the choice of device might have additional perceptual consequences for consumers.The residual of malachite green (MG) in fish is one of the major food safety concerns for consumers. It is important to develop simple and instant analytical methods to identify MG residues in fish. We fabricated flexible cotton surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrate, which offers good flexibility, uniformity and excellent adsorption capability. The UV-vis DRS spectra, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron elemental mapping images shown that the Ag NPs were closely packed on the surface of cotton fiber. The adsorption feature of cotton fiber could adsorb MG from solution and surface of fish. The Quick Easy Cheap Effective Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) sample preparation method was used to adsorb MG in fish for SERS sensing. The limit of detection of MG in fish using this developed method was as low as 0.05 ppm. The QuEChERS-SERS analysis method exhibits the capability for multiplex detecting mixture of MG and Dimetridazole at different ratios (5 ppm, 1/400 and 1/4000) from fish. The results indicated that the cotton fiber-Ag composite was suitable employed as SERS substrate for simple and instant detecting trace contaminants in food.A derivatization and air-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction procedure with organic phase solidification on a paper template was developed for the first time. The procedure was used for the spectrofluorometric determination of formaldehyde in milk samples. The Hantzsch reaction of formaldehyde with acetylacetone in the presence of ammonia to form a derivative (3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydrolutidine) was implemented for the microextraction and detection of analyte. Thymol was investigated as the extraction solvent for the air-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for the first time. In the developed procedure, molten thymol was added to the thermostated aqueous sample solution containing reagents for formaldehyde derivatization, and cloudy solution of fine thymol droplets was formed by air bubbling. After separation of phases the liquid extract phase was withdrawn with a dispenser and distributed on the black paper template in a thin layer to be solidified. The solidified extract phase on the template was inserted to a sample holder of a spectrofluorometer and fluorescence intensity was measured without using cuvettes. Under optimal experimental conditions the linear detection range was found to be 45-500 µg L-1 with LOD calculated from a blank test, based on 3σ, 15 µg L-1. The developed procedure does not require the dilution of the solid extract phase in organic solvent to be introduced in an analytical instrumentation and the use of cuvettes for spectrofluorometric detection.Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a non-destructive and ultrasensitive detection tool used for a variety of contaminants in recent years. In this paper, we synthesized a multifunctional Ag2CO3 nanocomposite for a sensitive SERS detection and photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye. The proposed Ag2CO3 substrate was characterized using XRD, UV-vis, FESEM, EDX and TEM techniques. Ag2CO3 exhibited a strong SERS sensitivity with a detection limit of 10-11 M and good reproducibility for the detection of RhB molecules. The degradation efficiency of Ag2CO3 under visible light irradiation was found to be 95%. The SERS and photocatalysis mechanisms were proposed considering the charge-transfer paths between the substrate and RhB molecules. Additionally, an excellent reusability property of Ag2CO3 microcrystals was observed for SERS detection due to its catalytic activity. This work explores the potential usability of Ag2CO3 substrate as a promising candidate for detection and photodegradation applications.Serum specimens of children hospitalized with acute intussusception (IS; n = 407) were analyzed for various pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines to identify host markers specifically for IS compared to other surgical conditions (n = 235) or acute gastroenteritis (AGE; n = 68) in a cross-sectional study design. We showed that children with IS had elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IFN-γ, TNF-α, MIP-1β, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, and IL-17 as well as anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-1RA, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 compared to those admitted with surgical conditions or AGE symptoms, indicating these cytokines as markers for IS. In addition, we showed an increase in C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in children with IS. This study is the first to show a broad cytokine profile and identify cytokine markers in children with IS.We have generated MLi004-A, a new induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line derived from skin fibroblasts of a female patient with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB). This iPSC line may be used as a model system for studies on skin integrity, the extracellular matrix and skin barrier function. The characterization of the MLi004-A cell line consisted of molecular karyotyping, next-generation sequencing of the COL7A1 alleles, pluripotency and differentiation potentials testing by immunofluorescence of associated markers in vitro.
