Attempting to place an aortic cross-clamp may complicate surgery and postoperative outcomes in patients who have mediastinal adhesions or in those with extensive aortic calcification. Although right-sided cardiac surgery via thoracotomy is not a new technique in these patients, robotic-assisted intracardiac repair without cross-clamping was not reported in a large group of patients previously. In this study, the safety of robotic-assisted cardiac surgery without aortic cross-clamping was examined.

From January 2010 to March 2020, 304 patients underwent robotic-assisted cardiac surgery in our center and in 25 of these patients (8.2%) with a mean age of 65.5 ± 20 years myocardial protection was succeeded with moderate hypothermic ventricular fibrillatory arrest. Using data from an E&R experiment with outcrossing Saccharomyces cerevisiae in which populations were sequenced 17 times over ~540 generations, we address the following questions (a) Do more time points improve the ability to identify candidate regions underlying selection? And (b) does high-resolution sampling provide unique insight into evolutionary processes driving adaptation? We find that while time sampling does not improve the ability to identify candidate regions, high-resolution sampling does provide valuable opportunities to characterize evolutionary dynamics. Increased time sampling reveals three distinct trajectories for adaptive alleles one consistent with classic population genetic theory (i.e., models assuming constant selection coefficients), and two where trajectories suggest more context-dependent responses (i.e., models involving dynamic selection coefficients). We conclude that while time sampling has limited impact on candidate region identification, sampling eight or more time points has clear benefits for studying complex evolutionary dynamics.This study examines the cross-cultural generality of Hering's (1878/1964) color-opponent theory of color appearance. English-speaking and Somali-speaking observers performed variants of two paradigms classically used to study color-opponency. First, both groups identified similar red, green, blue, and yellow unique hues. Second, 25 English-speaking and 34 Somali-speaking observers decomposed the colors present in 135 Munsell color samples into their component Hering elemental sensations-red,green,blue, yellow, white, and black-or else responded "no term." Both groups responded no term for many samples, notably purples. Somali terms for yellow were often used to name colors all around the color circle, including colors that are bluish according to Hering's theory. Four Somali Grue speakers named both green and blue elicitation samples by their term for green. However, that term did not name the union of all samples called blue or green by English speakers. A similar pattern was found among three Somali Achromatic speakers, who called the blue elicitation sample black or white. Thus, color decomposition by these Somali-speaking observers suggests a lexically influenced re-dimensionalization of color appearance space, rather than a simple reduction of the one proposed by Hering. Even some Somali Green-Blue speakers, whose data were otherwise similar to English, showed similar trends in yellow and blue usage. World Color Survey data mirror these results. These within- and cross-cultural violations of Hering's theory do not challenge the long-standing view that universal sensory processes mediate color appearance. However, they do demonstrate an important contribution of language in the human understanding of color.
Salivary gland intraductal carcinoma (IDC) is a complex ductal neoplasm surrounded by a layer of myoepithelial cells. Recent insights have shown that there are three different types intercalated duct-like, with frequent NCOA4-RET fusions; apocrine, with salivary duct carcinoma-like mutations; and mixed intercalated duct-like/apocrine, with RET fusions, including TRIM27-RET. In addition, an oncocytic IDC has been described, but it remains unclear whether it represents a fourth variant or simply oncocytic metaplasia of another IDC type. check details Our aim was to more completely characterize oncocytic IDC.

Six IDCs with oncocytic changes were retrieved from the authors' archives, from three men and three women ranging in age from 45 to 75years (mean, 63years). Five arose in the parotid gland, with one in an accessory parotid gland. Four patients with follow-up were free of disease after 1-23months. Several immunostains (S100, mammaglobin, androgen receptor, and p63/p40) and molecular tools (RNA sequencing, RET fluorescence in-situ hybridisation, BRAF V600E VE1 immunohistochemistry, and Sanger sequencing) were applied.
