Likelihood of radiation-induced pneumonitis after helical and static-port tomotherapy within lung cancer patients and new subjects.
4-7.4 × 105 analytical enhancement factor, which leads to a limit of detection down to several ppb. Less than 6% of deviation in the SERS intensity at different sensing sites was observed. We successfully improved the primary SERS substrate using a high overpotential reductant. Owing to its soft and flexible properties, the paper-based SERS substrate can be used conveniently in different sizes, pasting on curved materials, detecting additives in fish, and preventing the coffee-ring effect, showing high practicality and potential commercial value in the future.A simple paper-based analytical device (PAD) for the one-pot detection of glucose was developed herein using an artificial peroxidase-functionalized and glucose oxidase (GOx)-loaded pluronic-based nanocarrier (PNC). Mn2BPMP (BPMP; 2,6-bis[(bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amino)-methyl]-4-methylphenolate), an artificial peroxidase, was conjugated to PNC, allowing GOx to be loaded with a very high encapsulation efficiency. In solution, Mn2BPMP-PNC showed higher peroxidase-like catalytic efficiency than did Mn2BPMP at physiological pH. In addition, glucose detection via enzyme cascade reaction between GOx and Mn2BPMP in the GOx loaded-Mn2BPMP-PNC was more sensitive than the simple combination of Mn2BPMP and GOx with excellent selectivity. Subsequently, a PAD was fabricated using a laser printer with an assay substance containing GOx loaded-Mn2BPMP-PNC and peroxidase chromogenic substrate. The prepared Mn2BPMP-PNC-based PAD quantitatively measured glucose in human serum ranging from normal levels to those typical for diabetics as well as in buffer by obtaining RGB (red, green, and blue) color values through smartphone readout or the naked eye. Importantly, the present PNC-based PAD maintained the detection efficiency during storage at room temperature for 6 weeks in contrast to the rapid decrease in detection efficiency obtained for PAD containing Mn2BPMP and GOx without PNC.The controllable synthesis and customized design of micro/nanomotors represents a highly desired paradigm in the field of intelligent nanovehicles. Exploiting asymmetrical structures and geometry-dependent propulsion are the two main strategies for achieving light-driven micro/nanomotors. However, inherent crystal-structure differences in a single colloidal motor have rarely been explored. Here, we propose the first surface-heterojunction-induced propulsion methodology for cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanomotors, by tailoring the crystal morphology of a Cu2O crystalloid from a sphere into a truncated octahedron and preserving the controllable-index crystal facets of 100 and 111 in a single colloid. Due to the high crystallinity and distinct activity of the exposed crystal facets, a surface heterojunction between the 100 and 111 facets is formed to enhance electron-hole separation, as confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, thus endowing the truncated octahedral Cu2O nanomotors with autonomous and vigorous movement in biocompatible fuels under visible light. These Cu2O nanomotors can reach a propulsion speed in water of over two times faster than that of polycrystalline spherical motors with low crystallinity. The efficient Cu2O nanomotors offer a promising guideline not only for the synthesis of novel light-driven motors with desired structures, but also for potential applications in biocompatible environments.Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are bacterial infections that 1) commonly affect females, 2) can pose high risks to impair kidney function, 3) are often treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, and 4) are associated with high recurrence rates due to the evolution of drug-resistant strains. To choose the appropriate antibiotic, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) among a panel of antibiotics should be determined before administration to avoid inadequate dosing or use of wrong antibiotics. To meet with the unmet needs, we developed a bead-based method for bacterial preconcentration with capture rates ranging from 20-50% and then automatically performed on-chip AST on an automated device which was composed of a pneumatic control module, a temperature control module and a chip image processing module. The developed portable system was capable of automatically conducting AST and MIC measurements using urine samples (via image analysis) in only 4.5-9 h and tested on four common UTIs bacterial strains. This compact system may therefore be promising for point-of-care personalized medicine in the near future.Musk Larkspur (Delphinium brunonianum) is a perennial herb of the family Ranunculace with medicinal values. In this study, the chloroplast (cp) genome of this herb was determined to be 153,926 bp long with an A + T-biased base composition, and comprises a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions (26,559 bp), separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region (84,512 bp) and a small single-copy (SSC) region (16,296 bp). A total of 112 gene species were annotated with 19 of them being completely or partially duplicated. Eighteen gene species harbor one or two introns. Phylogenetic analysis challenged the monophyly of the subfamily Ranunculoideae.
While the proportion of HIV-positive children (under 15 years) enrolled on antiretroviral therapy (ART) has increased in recent years, up to 60% of children started on ART do not achieve virological suppression. We set out to determine the factors associated with virological non-suppression among children living with HIV receiving ART at a peri-urban HIV care clinic in Kampala, Uganda.

This was a retrospective cohort study conducted at the pediatric HIV/AIDS clinic at the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) in Kampala, Uganda. Three hundred (300) HIV-positive children (0-14 years) were randomly selected from existing medical records and data on children's socio-demographic and clinical characteristics (age at ART initiation, WHO clinical staging, and ART-induced side effects) were abstracted using a data abstraction form. Virological non-suppression was defined as a viral load ≥1000 copies/Ml of blood after six months of ART initiation. read more Incident rate ratios (IRRs) were determined as a measure of association between virological non-suppression and child/patient characteristics.
