The present study evaluated, in an 18-month gilthead sea bream trial, the time course effects of genetics on individual size variation and growth compensation processes in families selected by heritable growth in the PROGENSA® breeding program. find more categorized as fast, intermediate, and slow growing had different growth trajectories with a more continuous growth in fast growth families. This feature was coincident with a reduced size variation at the beginning of the trial that clustered together the half-sib families sharing the same father. Regression analysis evidenced that the magnitude of compensatory growth was proportional to the initial size variation with no rescaling of families at this stage. By contrast, the finishing growth depensation process can mask, at least partially, the previous size convergence. This reflects the different contribution across the production cycle of genetics in growth. How early-life experiences affect growth compensation at juvenile stages was also evaluated in a separate cohort, and intriguingly, a first mild-hypoxia pulse at 60-81 days post-hatching (dph) increased survival rates by 10%, preventing growth impairment when fish were exposed to a second hypoxia episode (112-127 dph). The early hypoxia experience did not have a negative impact on growth compensatory processes at juvenile stages. By contrast, a diminished capacity for growth compensation was found with repeated or late hypoxia experiences. #link# All this reinforces the use of size variation as a main criterion for improving intensive fish farming and selective breeding. The article "Influence of Acid Swallows on the Dynamics of the Upper Esophageal Sphincter", written by "Simone Miller, Martin Ptok, Michael Jungheim", was originally published electronically on the publisher's internet portal on 4 September 2020 without open access. Females produce microfilariae that enter the host's blood circulation or skin and may cause ocular and neurological pathology, leading to important implications in veterinary and public health. The present work is the first investigation on Setaria labiatopapillosa conducted in Morocco to characterize the morphological features of both adult and microfilaria forms. Two adult female nematodes were found free in the thoracic cavity of a slaughtered 3.5-year-old (6 teeth) Moroccan enhanced cross-breed bull which was born and raised in Morocco. The worms were identified as S. labiatopapillosa by light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on the basis of their characteristic features of the anterior and posterior parts of the worms. The two S. labiatopapillosa worms measured 90 mm and 105 mm in length and 0.55 and 0.64 mm in width, respectively. Microfilariae were detected in the fully developed eggs contained in the uterus of both nematodes. A detailed morphology of both the adult females and larvae of S. labiatopapillosa is described using LM and SEM. Although the origin of S. labiatopapillosa analyzed in the present study is unknown and there is currently no evidence that Setaria spp. have invaded Morocco, further surveillance is warranted to determine the incidence of setariasis, identify its vectors, and take appropriate measures to protect the livestock and cattle industry of the country.
Pulsatile intra-osseous pressures result in bone remodeling, and therefore may affect lesion growth and response to treatment. However, there is no known method used to measure intra-osseous pressures. The purpose of this study is to describe a novel image-guided technique for measuring intra-osseous pressures.

This study was IRB-approved and HIPAA compliant. Written informed consent was obtained. Intra-osseous pressure measurements were performed during a CT-guided bone marrow biopsy in eight patients (6 male, 2 female) with mean age 66 ± 13years (median 72, range 45-87) and suspected or known bone marrow disease. Bone marrow pressure measurements were obtained connecting the biopsy needle to a dedicated monitor using a standard arterial line setup. Monitor data was collected at 5-s intervals in order to record continuous pressure measurements for 2min.

Pressure measurements were successfully performed in all 8 patients. The mean bone marrow pressures were 36.8 ± 7.2mmHg (median 37.7, range 24.7-47.4). The peak and trough pressures varied by 11%, and the standard deviation of mean pressure measurement varied by 18%. Our findings for marrow pressure measures most closely approximate the pressure profile of the venous system.

We describe a novel and minimally invasive technique able to provide functional data of bone marrow. This technique has the potential to provide insights into normal and diseased bone marrow and may be helpful to evaluate features of cystic and vascular tumors that may be amenable to percutaneous treatments.

Fibrosis is one of the factors contributing to the development of primary acquired lacrimal duct obstruction (LDO). LIGHT (homologous to lymphotoxins, exhibiting inducible expression and competing with herpes simplex virus glycoprotein D for herpes virus entry mediator [HVEM]), a receptor expressed by T lymphocytes, has recently emerged as a new regulator of connective tissue remodeling and fibrotic response. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of LIGHT in the pathogenesis of LDO through (1) assessment of expression of LIGHT and its two receptors, HVEM and LTβR (lymphotoxin β receptor), and (2) investigation of potential relationships between expression of LIGHT and its receptors and clinical and histopathologic features.

Lacrimal sacs of 30 patients undergoing endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy because of LDO were assessed intraoperatively and histopathologically with respect to inflammation and fibrosis. Expression of LIGHT, HVEM and LTβR was assessed by immunohistochemistry using specific antibodies and evaluated semiquantitatively using a four-grade scoring system.
